Hi Guys! Thanks for clicking on the video, if you want to see me get blasted by wind, rain and hail then you've come to the right place! If you like the video please give it a thumbs up, and feel free to subscribe if you haven't already! Much love, Ash
The content you share is very good thank you. I also discovered a very useful app for friends like me who are just starting bushcraft. Maybe you'd like to take a look. I'll leave it down for you. The app name is( Offline Survive Guide App | Survival Techniqs(PRO)
Great Vid mate. I went 2 weeks ago. Was boiling hot one minute, then the next, it was white over in a blizzard! Mental but loved it. I had Lyn Cau almost to myself, one other tent! Got up in the night and the only light was starlight but unlike you, had a totally still night, no wind at all!
Great video mate , that's what it's all about , rain hail and shine we go out and still love it , top wild camp that fella!! love it , you lasted the night and even went for a swim , top man !!!
Good vid, I had a big agnus free standing and that collapsed in high winds in the middle of the night, need a hilleberg in them conditions, I do have a lunar solo six moon design treking pole tent now very sim to the z packs altaplex, but I have ordered the duplex now and waiting for that. I was going to subscribe dude until I realised you are a SUP man, 😂😂😂 (bit of surfing banter everyone) Nice tho dude glad your tent held up
Lol, hey mate! Yeah a hilleberg would definitely have been a better choice up there on this occasion 😂 was a great test for the tent tho! Lol, I’ve only had my sup about a year, I’m not skilled enough to surf 😂 plus I think I’d struggle surfing my local river 😬 Thanks for the watch buddy Ash
@@AshOutdoorsUK yes mate. Everyone is obsessed with going abroad but this country has it all. Absolutely ACE. I just wished these brain donors who think it's ok to leave litter everywhere would stop being so ignorant and appreciate what we have.
Epic wild camp, at least the Zpacks got a proper seeing to 😂 Not many Americans can say they've tested it in those conditions. Not having a zipped door is a bit crap though 🤣 takes weight saving to another level. What stunning scenery Ash, I would of just pitched up in that bothy TBH. Well done for your 100th vid and 5K+ subs well deserved, As I was watching at the end I said to Karen, he must of been cold & pi55ed off, he hasn't been in the tarn yet 😲😲😲😲 You're totally mental. BiG UP respect 🙏
Mate, I’m well impressed it held up! Shows you get what you pay for! The zip is a major 👎🏼 especially in these conditions! lol, I nearly didn’t dip in there, had to force it this time! 😅 Thanks for all your support over the last coupon of years mate! See ya tomorrow x
loved the video Ash, thanks for sticking with it and still making a video as enjoyable as you did! always makes a great watch when the conditions are testing, take care mate, Alex
My zPacks Pocket tarp doesn’t even have a storm flap! If the wind changes, I have to re-pitch so you’re one up on me. Could you add Velcro and a couple of tabs to close that storm flap? It’s easy to stick stuff to DCF. zPacks sell tape and patches. Good video. I look forward to your next.
Nice video a bit scary and skinny dipping lol. Nice video a bit beyond my capability as things stand. Glad it went well and congrats on the 100th video (I know this is an older one). Anyway have a great week.
Hi Ash, I know the place well, Unpredictable weather is the word ! But beautiful in all weathers., trust me I know! Really good effort and entertaining to . keep it up mate. regards Moose
Congratulations on the videos m8, and I'm so glad u never forgotten your ear plugs i never forget mine on stormy nights :) looking forward to your next video ash , wales is so beautiful !!
Brilliant mate. Proper thriller, edge of the seat watch. Great video mate. Glad you didn't have to pack up. What a way to welcome you to Wales 😂😂. Keep up the good work ATB Adam 🤜💙🤛
Mate, I right enjoyed that. High winds, sideways sleet, treacherous terrain and soaking boggy pitch for the night, truth be told I laughed all the way through it mate. Love your enthusiasm, and to dunk your junk at stupid o'clock in the morning , after the night that you had, takes some large gonads...! Great vid mate, looking forwards to your next one.
It's a real shame the weather wasn't good to you Ash. I went up there the other day for a swim and the sun was out all the way up until I reached Llyn Cau. But that's standard though isn't it! 🤣🤦🏼♂️
Ahh yeah, I went back up there last summer with Claire for a swim, it was sunny that day but still a bit of a chill to the water! Thanks for watching this one mate Ash 🏕
Excellent video Ash, living the dream with some Type-2 fun. That tarn did look familiar, from other videos. Wee break in the clouds, handy when that happens. Is DCF more noisy than silnylon in the rain? Too cold for taking a dunk mate. 🥶
Hey mate! Yeah it did seem noisy... nothing the ear plugs didn’t drown out... And yes, I did swim right at the end! Couldn’t go all the way there and not 😅 Thanks for watching mate Ash
Good stuff mate! Looks a tad windy tho. I was considering different tent/tarps for above the treeline camping this summer, landed on the MLD Cricket. (If it ever arrives?) Also had a chance to test my quilt last night, and the lack of a hood made for a much nicer sleep for sure! Thanks for sharing!
😍 Aw Ash this is sooo amazingggg!! That scenery 😍 incredible effort.. well done for sticking that out 😄 looks like the carrier bag did quite well too haha. Got the wales bug now? :D Have a great weekend xx
Hey clairebeare 😬 yessss! Totally got the wales bug! So stunning there! Thanks for all your advice on the locations! You have a good weekend too Ash xx
That was a wild one that mate , some brutal weather there, think I was on the island the same night , it was sideways hail there for a while off the coast of Wales, you had it much worse in the mountains though ,. Looks an awesome place that too , I've climbed a lot of mountains in Wales but not that one yet , some stunning views, a great video for your 100th mate , great adventure 🏕️👍
Nice one u stuck it out good man I love the tent so wish I didn’t get rid of mine I was thinking u could add a Velcro strip running down the storm flap mate I’m sure the 3m self Adhesive ones would stick to it fine and last to just a thought 💭 u look well anyway catch up soon
@@AshOutdoorsUK ah mate no worries wearing my vibrams today ur bud made me get em out but these I’ve had since ther first day of release lol and back then they were only £35 quid I couldn’t afford a pair now though they have hiked them up so much
I was shivering just watching !!!!! Great video and occasional great views through the clouds. 😊🌧🌦🌧 Good practice for the coast to coast, I'm looking forward to seeing that.
😎👍, good test of your navigational skills in poor visibility like that. 'If it ain't raining....it ain't training'.🤔. I got caught in a heavy tropical downpour while kayaking last month, rain bouncing off the water surface.... but it was still 20 degrees 🇦🇺😂. That looked proper cold🇬🇧😬‼️👏👏👏
The bothy you stopped at was a cafe some hundred years back and the woman who ran it used to walk up every day, with a donkey to carry her wares. Victorian times I think. Great video 👍
Good evening lord of the Manor, 😜 that bothy on the way up was a life saver. I've been expermenting with those bags too mate. Shame about not getting much sleep but good practice for the c2c, the new tent holds up well. Stay safe mate.
Ha! Belter for sure! We've had some awesome storms this past week, out of character for May here, and a bit of rain on our swag trip, but nothing like you copped. All in all going good down this part of the world right now 👍🏻 🤞 @@AshOutdoorsUK
Hard core mate, looked brutal and totally reinforces why I am a fair weather hiker and camper😂. Absolutely stunning indeed and you are not the only on who has overlooked Wales. For a second I thought you were bare footed (now that would have been hard core), how did they manage on the wet rock? Great effort to get to the summit, in what looked like awful conditions but thank goodness for the bothy. Well done on 100 and 5K, does not seem 2 minutes ago I was watching one of your first videos. The decent to the other tarn looked more than a bit rough, so you made the right call on just going around the ridge and not right down to the tarn. Despite the sun intermittingly come out that wind, rain and hail seemed to be following you around😳. What a night 😖, at least the tent was still there the next morning and you were still alive, although, after that dip in the tarn I do not know how 😂. Cheers Alan
Great video mate!! Your perseverance to stay in that wind was admirable. Congratulations on your 100th video and the 5000 subs. Peace and love to you fella 🙏👍❤️
My first ever wild camp on rannerdale knott weather was the same I bottled it and climbed down about 10pm... So well done mate bigger balls than me.. Great video really enjoyed and definitely subscribed 👍🏕️
Ah thanks buddy! Much appreciated 🙏🏼 yeah, there was about half an hour where I was ready to pack up and go. Glad I didn’t tho, fantastic memories Thanks for watching Ash
Just watched all this and really enjoyed the shots; and your narrative. Your laid back and spontaneous feel to it made for good viewing, I thought. Sorry you had to go through such torrid weather up there. I'm about your age, and still yet to do my first wild camp. I'm nearby, in Chester, but from the South (like you?) originally, so this area is fairly close. Thanks again for filming and sharing your efforts 👏👏👍👍🙂🙂
wet Monday. . I am going to Dartmoor on the 27th at.an.old abandoned farm. reluctant in going due to rain. bringing the lanshan 2 tent. bringing the 3x3 to sit under so I am not tent bound. after watching this video I was like hell yeah let's do it. love the shots going of you walking past the camera. I am going to to try to mimic those shots. love your drone shots as well. Your swearing like me in my videos he he. I am going to share this video with the guy who is joining me on a wildcard to show him . we can just go in the rain to the wildcard location. great. thank for the inspiration for me to push myself to just do it. I have a back up plan. a paid campsite if it does goes tips up. which the owner knows I may abandon the wildcard to go to his camp and stay under a 4x4 tarp and stay in the cloud peak 2. thank Ash. I will back track the videos from this one because I have to watch your journey from the beginning. oh special thanks to you which I did mention you in the end credits of my video of the inspiration of different shots of walking away from camp. take care as always . Karl.
Hey Karl mate! Thanks for your kind words! And so happy the video inspired you! That’s part of why I do this! It’s fun when the weather plays games with you, makes it all the more interesting Thanks for watching Ash
You chaps in the UK seem to get all the worst weather but know how to deal with it. In the last few years as I've upgraded by backpacking gear, I have learned that if a piece of gear can survive the UK weather test, it'll survive anything I throw at it here in the States.. Been really pleased with the Altaplex so far. Enjoyed seeing your part of the world. Looks equal parts the U.S. Rockies and Smokies.
Hello from the U.K.! Yes, it stood up really well on this camp and I was impressed with it. However the noise of the DCF was so loud compared to a sil nylon tent 😅 Thanks for watching and hope you’re enjoying the holidays Ash
@@AshOutdoorsUK I had the same DCF noise issue when I first switched from sil nylon but after a few nights I was able to adapt. I gave up on sil nylon after the tent I was using started leaking on a trip to our Wind River Range I'll swap a bit of noise for a leaky tent any day...or night. 😉
I'll tell you what mate, I admire your will power. Having that Snickers right below your mouth for hours and abstaining from eating it all day...that takes some grit 😋Oh, by the way stunning views 👍(I'm half way, still watching) Awesome, well done!!!
Really good effort Ash, got to admire your resilience mate. Think old Eryri wanted to teach you a good lesson for taking a Lanshan up her midriff....🏕🏴😱
Been up there twice, both times the weather was shite.....very similar to this. Got blown off my feet twice on the second hike, snapped my thumb nail off....wild but amazing scenery! Cant wait for the coast to coast! Keep that drone away from the trees! 🤣😍😍
Croeso I Gymru Ash (welcome to Wales). Great video. Although to be fair it only rained twice in Wales last year. The first time was from January to June and the second time was from July to December. There is a saying here in Wales. If you can’t see the summit of Snowdonia it’s raining. And if you can see it it’s going to rain.
😂 it’s been the wettest hike/camp I’ve ever had! But thoroughly enjoyed it, and I’m now completely in love with wales, such an awesome place! Thanks for watching Ash
Did the Met Office Mountain Weather Forecast predict that nasty weather? Always worth a look! Looks like a 4 season tent would have made for a slightly more comfortable night, but it was impressive that your superlight tent held up as well as it did. Definitely entertaining!
"That is by far the wettest and windiest hike I've ever had" - Croeso i Gymru! (Welcome to Wales 😂). That was really immersive viewing Ash, fair play - warts n'all - we felt all your pain! The 'That's me done, bye Wales!' gave me a genuine lol. I think Mother Nature waited for your 100th vid to give you a little reminder of her cruel side - like a wife picking a fight on your anniversary! Keeps us on our toes eh? Ace vid mate, really great viewing. Cheers. Rich.
Welcome to wales indeed 😅 yeah, I nearly didn’t go for that dip but know I’d regret it if I didn’t! Lol, and yea, Mother Nature threw a cluster bomb at me this day! Thanks for watching as always rich Ash
Hi Ash, i am also doing the coast to coast walk, start 31/05/21. I have been training like you for a while now. Let’s hope we do not get weather like the weather you experienced on your training day or we will be in for a torrid time. I am taking a Lanshan 1 Pro purely for the weight and the small footprint when trying to find a suitable pitch. It only arrived yesterday so may get out this weekend to test it. I was wondering where you got your rucksack water bottle/snack bar holders from. I am on the look out for something I can attach to my Osprey 48L rucksack. Cheers Mike.
Hey mate! Ah that’s awesome! Yeah fingers crossed for dryer weather! Lol. The bag is a custom one by atom packs. Not cheap but fantastic bags! Good luck with your c2c, you may well over take me 😂 Thanks for watching Ash
Cheers Ash best of luck with your walk. I am in no rush doing the walk so going to take my time and do it over 12 days and take it all in. Who knows we may bump in to each other. 👍
That's a proper test of gear and human spirit if I ever saw one. But damnit, people drink that water :D Awesome scenery too - think I saw one from Wild Astro there as well!
I am glad you had the opportunity to get out there! I remember when I was a kid there was never enough wind to fly a kite then as an adult that is all I ever find when Hiking... Good video stay safe. 👍
Nice one Ash, welcome to Wales (and the changeable weather) The Minffordd path is a good one for getting the heart pumping straight away eh? ! Its a cracking route that you followed, Ive done it several times, shame about the low cloud as the views are great on a clear day. Loved the shot at 7:11 BTW - There are no Tarns in Wales.. just Llyns😀 Great video mate.
Hey joss mate, thanks pal, and what a welcome it was! Bloody lovely tho, will be back for sure! Yes, the tarns! 🤦🏻♂️ someone else has mentioned that! Lol, I didn’t know... thanks for watching mate. All the best Ash
That was crazy..raining, getting pelted with hail and a loud tent! Seeing you in the stone hut, all I thought was …stay and sleep there..it’s dry and quiet I really didn’t think you were going for a dip and no scream! Great video 🇨🇦 ❤️
Hey mate, thought i’d dip my toe in and watch your recent vid. Looks like you got battered here mate 😂 surprised the tent held up! Great place though, not been up there myself. Did you end up going for a swim? * literally just caught the end as i typed this and saw you did 😆👏🏼 Top work as always 👍🏼
Great vid with some brutal weather! Had same experience in December 2020, when my tent ended up in the lake! Everything soaked including camera equipment. Twice now ive had to abandon that mountain. She doesn’t like me i dont think!
