The Rolling Stones 1995
Childhood living is easy to do
The things you wanted I bought them for you
Graceless lady you know who I am
You know I can't let you slide through my hands
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses, couldn't drag me away
I watched you suffer a dull aching pain
Now you decided to show me the same
No sweeping exits or offstage lines
Could make me feel bitter or treat you unkind
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses, couldn't drag me away
I know I dreamed you a sin and a lie
I have my freedom but I don't have much time
Faith has been broken, tears must be cried
Let's do some living after we die
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses, we'll ride them some day
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses, we'll ride them some day

Every generation says the new stuff sucks. The World War II generation thought the Stones sucked. Now the Stones generation thinks Billie Eilish sucks. Music is expression, it is very diverse. I like all of it for what it is. If you go back and listen to a lot of mid-60s music it is just terrible. You are cherry picking one of the top 100 songs of all time and comparing it to ALL music today. That is not a fair comparison.

Who can give this a dislike? A live studio recording -- no reverb, no autotune, no BS. A live studio recording true to the original studio release. Aside from being a great rendition of a great song, the coolest thing about this is how the guy asks Jagger, "Have you guys been playing Wild Horses?", and he answers, "Not recently, but we could do it, yeah" at which point Richards and Woods just launch into it. No warm up, no prelude, nothing, just play it. The whole thing is note perfect, and they probably hadn't bothered to play it for a few months. Absolutely no effing taste if you gave this a thumbs-down.

The video was exquisitely done. The music, the lyrics and Mick and Keith hit it out of the park with this song. It transcens me back to Pittsburg, PA and the Rolling Stone Voodoo Lounge Tour. They were magnificent, commanded the stage. Afterwards, I and my sons gathered up all the memorabilia of the concert we could. I spent $200+ on posters, t-shirts, hats, you name it. Damn, what a performance. My sons were young but it made them Stones fans for life. We still talk about it today. I was so pumped up for that concert. I wore my black western hat. I attended cowboy style.

This song captures perfectly the feeling of nostalgia for me, that ache in your heart for a place that no longer exist. For me, 1982 Delta Colorado, Friday night, off work from Terrell's Restaurant, cruising Main Street, house parties later, I was 19, young and free and i didn't even know it. Richards' autobiography is a truly inspirational read. In one chapter Richards talks of how he wrote this song. His first son, I think it is Marlon, wanted daddy Keith to play him a bedtime song just as Keith Richards was flying out the door to go on tour. This is the melody that came to him on guitar off the top of his head at his sons bedside. He admits the lyrics were later changed by him and Jagger, but a large part of it is how he first played and sang it to his young son.

So good it is perfect, notice how after years of singing this song Mick still gets mesmerized and lost in singing it still acting out his emotions in physical gestures and how Keith so effortlessly does that harmony over him that fills the whole room. This was part of The Rolling Stones love affair with country and western music brought on by the friendship of Keith Richards and Gram Parsons, who was the catalyst that bridged rock and country and western in the early 1970's no Gram Parsons, no Eagles , no Poco, no Wild Horses and all the rest!

I agree wholeheartedly… and tonight I unfortunately decided to check out an X-Factor contestant's version of this song. I know the lad wanted to show what his voice could do, but he took that beautiful, hooky chorus and murdered it by taking it up by an octave and belting it out like some demented eunuch club singer. The original melody was changed, where it should really not have been. I had to listen to this Stones' version of it again, to quell that horrible sound in my head, of art being nailed to the cross of commerce.

He knew him fairly well: Keith Richards. He met him during the early 90s' on an island in the Caribbean. I remember singing this song-'Wild Horses'-on an island in the Caribbean with a reggae band, and it sounded really good , too. That was back in the mid 70s', different island. The name of the group was The Mark Five Combo. I wonder what happened to them?
