This is so cool! I actually just did this whole process. Found a lion's mane in Oregon, cloned and grew it out. Then I took a spore swab from it and grew it out on agar and made an LC out of it. I have been growing a strain of lions mane that is from the east coast, the Oregon lion's mane is a great strain and is almost better than the previous strain..... such a fun process
Great information. I like that you went from start to finish. I especially like the idea to add wheat bran to the grain spawn. I’ll definitely try that on my next run. Keep up the great videos.
Always great content coming from you, currently working on cleaning up a wild Ganoderma lucidum I found fruiting from a pile of wood chips. This video came at a perfect time!
That's a great shortcut if you can get away with it, but in general I think it's still best to clean it up on agar a bit just because of the risk of latent contams when tissue culturing. Nice job capturing a commercial strain on the cheap with a store-bought mushroom.
Great video like always! I'm growing lions mane (not the same name as the video). But do they grow a little "slow"? I am getting fruit bodies but man the wait! I'm new but so glad to see fruit finally! Love your videos! Watch them every time!
Thank you for watching. Many species do require alot of patience, which isn't always easy. Sounds like you're doing well and having success, congrats 👊🧡
Amazing video i appreciate the walkthrough of your process any chance I can get a spore swab?? I live in NY as well and would love a locally found varient I've grown erinaceus and americanum both of them were purchased would love a 3rd species in my bank as well
I'm not really set up yet to swap cultures with viewers, but it's something I'm thinking about/working on. In the meantime check out Olga at Smugtown Mushrooms. She is right near me and captures a lot of local strains/sells cultures. Thanks for watching and commenting 🧡
I think the submersible aquarium heater I'm using in that last video are kinda "one size fits all". The temp is adjustable. You should be able to get one first under $20, doesn't have to be very powerful.
Ok buddy , I’ve got several nice flushes using your wood pellets!! They are really upturning instead of down turning??? Is that ok? Wish I could send you a pic
Supplements like wheat bran or soy hulls would increase yields for sure, but I think in this case the strain I captured just happens to be not particularly high yielding.
For the most part, I prefer not to sterilize substrate and opt for easier low energy pasteurization techniques using lightly supplemented or unsupplemented substrates. This strain underperformed in terms of yield on straight wood pellets, but yield really wasn't the goal here. I was more looking for a baseline of how it compares to other strains I grow. With the right strains and techniques, you can actually get solid yields with very little supplementation.
You want to trap some air in there for sure to make it easy to shake the bags to mix your spawn in, but it doesn't have to be totally inflated like a balloon.
I haven't tried it yet, but it is prevalent in my area and is one of the only mushrooms that will grow on black locust. It should culture readily, most of the shelf polypores do. I haven't read much about, but I'm guessing it would have good medicinal properties.
Good job man. You just keep getting better and better. Btw, I'm doing a block giveaway on my friends channel to 16 lucky people if you or any of your followers would be interested. I also would like to send you a free thing of cultures one day
I've noticed that you now have ads on some of your best videos. They take up a 3rd of the screen 😮 Of course comments on those have been turned off. All for the love of money, what a shame 😢

That's mostly what it's known for in the herbal/medicinal world. I would say I don't consume enough to reap any of the benefits. I should probably eat more, because who couldn't use a little improvement in cognitive function.
