Part 1 of 6. Wild Wabakimi is a documentary-style video-series showcasing a 14-day canoe trip through Wabakimi Provincial Park in Northwestern Ontario, Canada.
Accessing the backcountry by floatplane had been on our backlist since we started tripping and it did not disappoint. After unloading all of our gear in the middle of Granite Lake, the plane took off right over our heads (as we requested) leaving us on our own to start our 14-day trip through Wabakimi Provincial Park.

Awesome start guys! Love how you got playoff beards going for the big trip. That pilot is the world's gutsiest prankster---yikes. This video stirred up a major fishing craving. Nice northerns!

Thanks Jon! Noah had been building that beard even before our Temagami trip in July. It was starting to look as rugged as the boreal forest we paddling through. Just as the pilot dropped us off I had to ask if he would mind taking off over top of us and he was happy to! This was some of the best fishing either of us had ever experienced. Thanks for watching

This is my favorite series from y'all. This seems like the peak fun we only got to experience at that age, if we were lucky.

Thanks for filming this, everyone needs to experience a fly in trip like this. My first fly in was when I was a Junior Ranger, working out of White lake, not to far from Wawa. 6 days of remote wilderness, remarking portages and busting beaver dams....Thanks for this series.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the series! I agree that everyone should definitely do a fly in trip for the experience. This was our first and will definitely not be our last. The Wawa area also offers some amazing trips! Cheers

My buddy broke his paddle on our first backcountry trip, didn’t have an extra paddle. Thankfully some kind soul left an old half rotted one on the portage...I thought it was hilarious... him not so much... especially cause of my uncontrollable laughter 😂

Great video guys! Looking forward to Part 2. It's awesome to see people coming up to explore Northwestern Ontario especially considering we have three amazing parks (Quetico, Woodland Caribou and Wabakimi), among many others. My wife and I are doing Wabakimi next year and it's great to see a current video of the area. Keep it up!

Looks like a great trip. I'm just getting into wilderness tripping so this summer is going to be about Algonquin but i'm working towards a fly in trip. Hard to find a tripping partner, especially for a 14 day trip.

You guys are fishing masters. I've canoed for 30 years, but never fished much. Can you please recommend a good rod/reel/lures for the backcountry?

I just discovered your channel a few days ago, and am loving the content! Inspires me to head north myself for my next trip. Question: did I hear you say around 11:30 that you brought "dehydrated rice?" What did you mean by that; and what's the advantage of that over regular rice - which already has almost no water-weight?
@NorthernScavenger
@NorthernScavenger 6 лет назад
Adrea Brooks thank you! We love to here that you got a little inspiration. The reason for the cooked dehydrated rice is that it rehydrates and is ready to eat much faster than if we were to cook regular rice.

That's good stuff man. As a regular camper just starting to get into fishing, if you guys talked just briefly mention what you are using for fishing lures when you catch something or just show the fish with it in it's mouth that'd be sweet (maybe I'm asking too much haha). It's nice to see what works in different areas for different fish. You got another subscriber for sure. Your videos are great!

It is definitely a new favourite of ours after this trip. The outfitter provided us with general topos as well as small print out sheets that had notes on each area in detail. Although there was the odd error on the map it still worked well for us.
