THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN is riding into theaters again this weekend in Antoine Fuqua’s new remake, and we can only hope it’ll turn out better than another western remake that became one of the most infamously bad movies ever made: WILD WILD WEST, the new review of Awfully Good Movies! When director Barry Sonnenfeld and star Will Smith teamed up again after the huge success of MEN IN BLACK, adapting the 60s TV classic often described as “James Bond meets the Old West”, people thought it would be the movie to beat in the summer of 1999. But it did get beat, and hard: sweeping the Razzies, flopping at the box office, and leaving Burger King with mountains of unsold WILD WILD WEST toys and sunglasses. And with its confusing plot, awkward humor, ridiculous special effects, and criminal underuse of Salma Hayek, it more than deserved its failure. So hey, as long as the new MAGNIFICENT SEVEN doesn’t resort to a scene where Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt fondle each other’s fake titties, or have a hip-hop theme song featuring Sisqo, it should end up doing just fine.

I always loved this movie...and don't care that so many others hate it. There's some great humor and one-liners, and then there's the incredible Salma Hayek and Bai Ling!

It's like people don't understand that movies like this embrace the campiness of it all. This was great... unless you didn't want it to be campy nonsense. If you were like me, and a kid when movies like this were released, this was an amazing movie.

Getting slightly passed the 4 minute mark and realising he ain’t going to go into positive territory. One of the most overratedly badly reviewed films of all time. The movie is pure fun.

I like Jesse but yeah... He wasn't too kind to this film but I'll say this though, I know it's not like the original series but definitely understand why many hated it, I personally still find enjoyment. The great things I can say that its production design is incredible and its visual effects still hold up years later. 😊

Saw it in theaters and loved it, same year I saw Inspector Gadget which I also loved as well. I know they're not perfect they're bad but I enjoy them for a long time.

Sorry, everytime I watch this episode and see Jesse point out Sindel's actress and be surprised she appeared in films after "MKA" (She was also in one of the "Oblivion" films for Full Moon Pictures), I always laugh.

Yeah, that movie was cheap garbage. I liked it as a kid, but that's cause I liked everything as a kid. This movie is still hilarious to me, I don't really see why it gets so much hell.

I am pretty sure all the actors who were actually in the movie would love to be somehow not be in this movie. Absurd, illogical, chaotic, there is just one word to sum this up. Awful. I mean how on earth did this movie get released. Did the director not see this. The main story is fine. Its not bad and could have been made in good movie. But the way its made. From one scene you jump to another, there is no logic, the acting is bad like the actors are rehearsing lines of a play in front of mirror, and then to top it all those gadgets and special effects. This ties with the Ben Afleck J Lo movie Gigli as probably one of worst A-grade movies ever made. But Affleck and J Lo were a couple and they probably let their emotions get better of them plus they do not have a long resume of good movies. This movie has Kevin Kline, Kenneth Branagh. Will Smith, and Salma Hayek. Actors who have done good and intelligent movies. Played memorable characters. How on earth could they agree to this ?

I even enjoyed the imitating the president joke. As a kid I remember laughing so hard the first time I saw him pop his stomach. I still like "Shoot first, shoot later, shoot some more, and then when everyone is dead, try to ask a question or 2." Seems so fittingly American!

I loved this film and Inspector Gadget, I watched them in the year 1999 when I was a boy in the theater. Also Barry Sonnenfeld did do something good recently, he worked on Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events and he directed Episode 1.

Wonderful movie. Excellent dialog. It doesn't go deeply political or hurt my head with deep thought. Its pure fun. However, I live in Colorado. We have less oxygen and more weed... I'm going to go watch this.

Friendly reminder that Warner bros not only screwed over the iron giant and made it bomb thanks to almost no promotion on prime time and minimal promotion until 2 weeks before release(a film that got the studios HIGHEST test screening scores at the time, and would of been a guaranteed smash hit had it been promoted well). But they suckered the budget from Tim burtons and Kevin smiths Superman movie(which could of been a huge success had it been made) in favor of this film. Which itself turned to be a box office bomb

I'll never understand the overwhelming hate for this movie. It was a fine campy popcorn flick. I think people are just parroting the hate because they think they're _supposed_ hate it, not because there's that much to hate about it. Yeah, it didn't try for a 10.0 routine and fall way short. It tried for a 5.0 routine and did fairly decent. And then trying to be overly sensitive about its content... You look at the comments here, and it doesn't match what critics, small-potatoes reviewers, and Rotten Tomatoes shows. There's just something off in all of this hate -- almost like a mass hysteria.

While Will Smith won his Academy Award for his performance in 2021's King Richard which he has so much to be proud of and Sir Kenneth Branagh won his Oscar for his writing in 2021's Belfast..1999's Wild Wild West was not one of their best efforts.

I enjoyed this in my teens and I enjoy it to this day. A charismatic black guy in the old west with an altruistic sense of justice and federal Marshall authority? No one claimed this was historically accurate. t’s funny and ridiculous. No one took themselves too seriously and Will Smith has 5 or 6 movies worse than this. His original music was the worst part about it. This review just kind of seems like a pile-on from conventional pop culture pessimism.

I thought the film was very good, I first saw it when I was 8. It is rare to see a scifi western. I liked that Will Smith and Kevin Kline were using gadgets like James Bond. Will Smith was fighting and shooting like Django and James Bond from the Daniel Craig films. It was pure entertainment. I give it a 8/10.

This is a universally panned film and it’s funny to see all the comments saying they liked it. I’ll admit though, I saw it in theaters and enjoyed it. I’m embarrassed that I liked it since it’s always referenced as one of the worst things that’s ever happened. I wonder how a rewatch would find me...

There is one good thing I can say about Wild Wild West even though this is a very bad film it it one thing it took the budget away from this movie which would have been way worse Superman lives directed by Tim Burton and starring Nicolas Cage. So the way I see it is this superhero film of all time which probably derail superhero movies in general we get a bad Western film which doesn't ruin any of the actors reputations.

I liked the movie. Mostly due to the fact that I never watched the original tv series it was based off of. So from that perspective I can understand why folks wouldn't enjoy the movie. Now consider this....if Wild Wild West got the Blazing Saddles treatment.
