Good idea about reinforcing the case and also elongating the starter holes so you can adjust the starter gears to have full engagement. Seems like the factory could use a few tips from you about that.

It only made sense to try to get full engagement out of the starter gears. And the sleeve on the case was the best i could come up with as a quick reinforcement that didnt involve welding. Thanks for watching!

Awesome tip on reinforcing the boss by using a metal ring. I have mine apart now waiting for the HD starter with lower gear ratio gear from Country Cat.. I got lucky when mine kicked back it only took out the starter and gear, didnt break the case. What causes these to kickback ? Anyway of stopping the backfiring? Someone said to hold the key on until it is good and running. Thanks for the videos

These engines are just choppy idling. Mine will sometimes die right after startup if I dont give it a touch of throttle. So usually I just hold a little throttle on it and let it smooth out, then it will idle all day long. If i let it die at startup, that is the only time i get any kick back out of mine it seems.

@@CumminsDriver I just installed the new upgraded starter and gear. The new starter has a beefier gear and it covers the entire width of the secondary gear ( didnt have to relocate mounting holes) . I also reinforced the boss slightly by JB welding a piece of PVC pipe to it. Was nervous starting it for the first time, lol...it did however start fine and the upgraded starter with 44 tooth gear turned the motor over much faster. I will use the throttle to get the rpm's up on start up as well as keeping the key turned until it is running smooth, hopefully that eliminates the kick back

How’s this working mines a damn mess they reinforced that boss but mine broke it off the 400 buck stator cover boss ugh arcticat should give us updated cases or something the money we spent on these things to drive not work on

Well it never gave me any issue up until I sold it. I tried to be sure and not let it kick back or stall when starting which I think is the main thing that kills them. Arctic Cat should have done something to help out with the issue for sure because it’s very common unfortunately. Are you a member of “wildcat riders” on Facebook? There is a guy on there selling pre-cut reinforcement plates that you weld into your cases and stator cover. Once you do that I don’t think you’d have any more issues. It’s a pain to have to do it but I think it’s the best option. Good luck 👍🏻

Did it snap off the rod fix with the collar on it?

I never had an issue the whole time i owned it. I only put a little over 1k miles on it but it never gave me a problem.

Don't need to do this, I fixed this issue by adjusting the valve lash, the engine kicks back because the compression releaser on the camshaft is not working properly, readjust the valves and no more kick back !!!
@CumminsDriver
@CumminsDriver 9 месяцев назад
Setting valve lash is definitely a good idea and I’m sure will help. However, these cases are still really weak and I still stand by this as being worth while. There is a reason Arctic Cat beefed up the engine case in 2016.

It will help reinforce the end of the boss but will it break at the case now instead?
@CumminsDriver
@CumminsDriver 4 года назад
That is yet to be seen, but I dont really think it should break at the case. There is quite a bit of meat there, its just that once it cracks at the top. it can bust out easily. I believe if it can be prevented from cracking at the top of the boss, it shouldnt be able to break the whole thing off. Especially if you are mindful and can keep from having kick back.

Damn straight it will!! Did this now I have to come up with crazy bullshit to try and weld bunch of garbage to garbage wildcat!! Or spend over $4000 on a motor,and I don’t even have 700 miles on this garbage

What size were the bolts that held the starter in place? Thanks for the videos on this btw. I’m replacing the starter on my 2013.

I did this, guess what happened? Instead of loosing just the top half, the whole thing broke off my casing. My rig doesn’t even have 700 miles,these wildcats are pieces of garbage!!!! Wish I’ve never gave these pieces of junk a try!! Before had a 900xp 4500 miles before I started having any problems. And still just added oil when need and the damn thing would go all weekend

Sorry to hear of your troubles. It is a design flaw of the machine unfortunately. Yes the whole boss will break off if it gets kicked back on too many times. But Id rather it have to break the whole boss off the case than to just break part of it, because the end result is the same. The best fix is to fab a plate with holes in the correct places for the pins, position it in the case and have it welded in. It really isnt overly complicated, but it is a little work. Once its done though, it should take care of the starter problems for good. I think there was a person fabbing the plates. If you want more info on this id be glad to help

@@CumminsDriver if u have the info on who fabs the plates that would be a jump start. Good friend of mine is a machinist, and was going to tackle this thing but having a plate would get us that much more ahead
