Today I'm trying the new Wilkinson Sword Straight Edge Razor, a shavette I found at Walmart for $25 Canadian. BUT will I cut myself? I'm also using HSSC Forge, an amazing tallow shave soap, and my Coyote Cuts 24mm synthetic brush.
My 8/8 ALE might also make an appearance.

I tried this product yesterday and it was great!One of my best shaves and my first time using the shavette.No cuts or irritation,bbs shave.Though I got not much facial hair and they’re pretty soft.Shame that this tool hurt you,and you didn’t get happiness from it.Overall,in my opinion:if you got right technique and very careful it’s a great product for its money and actually not that bloody.Cheers from St.Petersburg,Russia!

Hey Richard! I greatly appreciate you watching my video! And hello in Russia from Canada. Hope you're doing well! Yeah, in this video, my technique was horrible and the blade wasn't loaded correctly. I've since done other videos using shavettes with better technique and much more satisfying results. Thanks for your kind words!

Glad I never watch this until after I tried it. would have never bought It. Sorry you hurt your self. I had the best shave ever with this and have never used one before. I thought it was super simple and it barely had any instructions on it. I absolutely loved it. It can't be that hard if they sell it with no instructions! I had no issues. I see everyone trying to be proper and use a particular grip or something. Just be comfortable and let the razor do the cutting. Have a light touch and cut your hair not your skin. I've had issues with regular cartridge razors and this has been the best and easiest to use for me. I can see what the blade is doing and I can see what is being cut. Take your time . I can't see why everyone is so scared. I thought it was great and It was my first time, I didn't rush and I did as I was told. Stretch skin, short strokes and angle blade, let the weight of your arm or blad do the cutting. It is not that hard. You looked mad uncomfortable dude. That probably didn't help you either. Big up for sharing but it wasn't a bad shave for me anyway infact the best I've ever had.

Bit of a blood bath there eh? Thing with shavettes is those short strokes are a great way to get cut, it’s better to start your stroke and do long strokes keeping the blade in this skin... most people get cut when they are putting the edge to their face. Happy Easter, and safe travels my friend.

Yaaa I tried this out for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I’ve been using safety razors for almost 10 years now so when I picked this shavette up I went in thinking I knew all there was to it, took a hot shower and threw some beers back and went to town with it… came out looking like a got attacked by a mountain lion with cuts everywhere and the worst razor burn I got in my entire life. Wanting to give it a second shot tho. Cool video, you got a subscriber !

Had my first shave with my Wilkinsonsword shavette last night no problem with cut's but you need to concentrate to get a close shave I needed 2 passes with afew rubs on aquard places like behind the jaw upper lip and chin but I'd say it'll be a nice shave when I get the hang of it as I was coming near the end. As for blade pressure and holding my shaving instincts kicked in and no problem with cuts or no awkwardness holding. One tip leave the whiskey until you've finished shaving that also lessen's the risk's of cutting yourself. Slánte ás Éireann 🇮🇪🤝🇨🇦

Stretching the skin and most important things about Shavettes who used 1/2 DE blades you have to watch the corners of the blade

also not talking while shaving will probably help avoiding the bites...

"Noool! Stop! This blade sticks too far out!" Ouch, years too late 🙈🤕😬. I learned that it is quite difficult to keep the blade in its place while closing the razor. It is especially difficult with a splitted DE but much easier with SE. I personally go with Derby Professional. They are a little bit sticky on one side which helps a lot to keep them in place until the blades are locked. It is a bit of training, and you will develop an eye to see, whether they are too far out or a bit misplaced. The corners of the blade tend to be nasty if you allow them enough space for acting out 😉.

Shavettes: Ninja-level shaving. May as well super glue a DE blade on a toothbrush and give'er. Worst cut: 5/8" Boker unrounded. Was learning with the straight and didn't police the tip. 1.5" cut that has since scarred over. Took damn near a month to heal.

Hi Ken... I'm like you, not a big fan of shavette razors. Just too damn sharp and not as "forgiving" as a straight razor. Plus, I prefer the longer edge of straight razor, feel like I have more control. Used to own a Feather AC but I've since moved it as I was getting too many weepers and was seeing too much blood for my liking. I still have a Parker and SEDEF shavette, just not gabbing them much these days. Enjoy the whiskey...helps numb the pain from those shavette slices!! Cheers and Happy Easter.

Will recovered ken. 😊 I think the one gateway aspect of Shavettes, is that I imagine they're used in the same way that straight razors are. The only area that requires more attention seems to be the initial contact. After that smooth sailing. We should exchange notes, because I find Shavettes to be much more user friendly than straights. Heal up my man. 😆 🤝👊✌

That was rough! Try that same razor with a GSB, Vincent Sigma, or injector blade, and you'll have a much easier time. I haven't used the Wilkinson blades in a shavette, but I have to be extra careful with something like a Derby Extra. The blade definitely matters in a shavette.

I got one a few weeks ago and stole the wilkinson sword blades for my safety razor I'll be trying it out with my Darby single edge blade 100 for €20 about Tuesday because I want a deasent stubble last shave Friday. Have to admit don't understand what all the passes are about though one round's enough for me and just a quick rub over the rough bits no lather nothing always does the trick.

From my personal experience, short choppy strokes make it easier to nick yourself. I haven't used a shavette for very long, but I found long strokes helped me keep my angle and not get cut. But yeah they are tricky to use.

Very Brave of you in using shavette as I couldn't use it as only have full mobility of one arm so shavette is out for me as cut myself up too much so just sticking to safety razors from now on.

You did a lot better than I would have with a shavette! Those have to be tricky to shave with and get the hang of. My worst cuts were with a Bic Metal cartridge razor. Found a pack of them for like $3 at a Dollar General store here in Ohio, and, needless to say, I was ripped off paying $3 for them. Several cuts on my head, and three or four cuts on the neck area. I pitched them instantly. Never again 👎🏻

Hahahaha. I haven't used a Bic on my face since my high school days. In tattoo shops they're very common because they're so cheap.

not nearly enough water to soak your face and beard. Definitely need some pre-shave cream or oil. You're not stretching your skin even close to tight enough. I'd recommend a different blade as well.

You should be an expert after two years, how is it going? I was told to start with the razor flat and then bring up to the angle that you want. It has worked for me so far. Looks like the blade sticks out to much?

Good day Christopher! Yes I did. And I've become much more comfortable using shavettes. I've done at least 1 or 2 other videos using the WS shavette with much better results. Ckiefer.045 , Carl Kiefer, has a great channel dealing almost exclusively with shavette- type razors and hugely helped me improve my technique.

Man, I'm really sorry to hear that! I've been trying to get to shavettes. They always make me nervous. I've had several terrible shaves with them. I think that's largely due to lack of experience and technique. Many guys love them. Just go extremely shallow & try not to lift the razor off your skin. The Red Island Shaver and Carl Kiefer have some great videos on how to use shavettes.
@Tylerboyd2001
@Tylerboyd2001 2 года назад
@@KalShaves that was my first time using it. Plus I have never used a straight razor of any kind. I know you mentioned they are not similar in any ways. Do you have any recommendations for straight razors for beginners? I’m into wet shaving with a de safety razor, but have been wanting to get into straight razors for a very long time.
