Ok, so BSG have done this Arena Tarkov event “thingy” at Twitchcon with some popular people and themselves playing and demo'ing Arena for people to see and I assume for some feedback before release.
I took my time and watched all the footage I could find and there is some good stuff and some, huhummm, other stuff, so what did BSG really show us about Arena so far? Dsync, Cheaters, Gameplay, skills and levels?
I will be showing a few clips later on from @LVNDMARK and @MoreSummit1g a summit1g clips channel, to demonstrate some points, so credit to them for letting us see it as it happened.
Let’s start with what Arena is. It is to become Escape from Tarkov’s competitive shooter brother, taking all the mechanics and features of eft’s combat and mashing it with a counter strike or rainbow six experience, birthing this competitive shooter in the tarkov universe.
Some good things to take from this gameplay showcase are mostly around the intelligent level design and integration with the eft mechanics. The levels look good with variation in covers, traversal options, close to mid range engagements, some verticality and even that tarkov unique feel to them. It genuinely looks like the folks in Tarkov decided to just organize a little AirSoft tournament but with real ouchie bullets. I mean airsoft bullets can hurt, but people tend to be able to drive home after playing a few rounds, instead of being carried home while inside a pine box.
Honestly, like most of their world building and level design, it’s a good start. A solid presentation to those of us more interested in the feel of it.
The gameplay? Well, it’s something a little bit different.
But before we get into that, I want to address some of the reasons why most people quit playing eft that are related to the game and what to expect based on what we all saw in Arena.
After reading so many of your comments in previous videos, and I do try to read them all, the more common reasons players leave are cheaters, dsync, audio problems and the time investment every time a wipe happens. I am not saying there aren't other reasons, but these are the more common ones I have seen.
Regarding all of these issues and looking for them in the Arena “thingy”, here’s what I found.
Overall I am glad Arena is coming out, I am anticipating quite a few hours of non stop PvP in it. What I am not is delusional to the point of believing it will be smooth. Not after seeing gameplay of it from these events. It’s BSG after all. Something is going to be so broken it will make the player base rage. I just hope it’s not the dsync and they figure it out in time, but I doubt it.
How about yourself? Are you excited for Arena? Are you expecting great times or are you somewhat on the back foot? Will you be playing it or just stick with regular old tarkov? Let me know in the comments below, just please be respectful.
