I agree! Autel pricing plans for updates are not the cheapest. That said, here's the cheapest way I found to renew. Summer or Black Friday ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CbrJg-KP7ZE.html
@@bradleyaldaz8710 on mine, I just renewed my mx808 subscription but I'm sure a year from now the bi directional features will still be working. The difference will be, any updates on vehicles after my year is up will not be installed
Thanks for this review. It was very helpful as I'm considering an 808S-TS purchase for my current vehicles and don't plan to continue with the subscription service once it runs out.
This is not the case with my AUTEL MS906BT Scanner which had a subscription until 04-01-22 and continued to work properly until today 05-16-22 (45 days after the end of the subscription). Now the scanner will NOT scan any vehicle or show individual modules or functions which makes the scanner useless. Subscription renewal is $800+ for another year which I do not need because I work on vehicles 4-5+ years old. Buyer beware that AUTEL will brick your scanner if you do not continue to purchase their software yearly regardless if you needed the newer years or not. AUTEL is very disappointing.
Did you make a backup? Mine didn't have this issue at all for the 1yr plus I didn't have a subscription. Was it a FCA car? So you can't scan cars or do stuff?
@@DIYAutoworksNG i am not sure how to revert from backup. It detects 2018 jeep grand cherokee i scanned before, now it detects vehicle but i cannot scan or read codes, it says expired try again
I see. The issue is with the fact that it's a 2018 FCA car. Exactly as I explained in the video. I believe not being able to scan the 2018 jeep is because it has the secure gateway module. That's something FCA implemented after suffering a hack. Unfortunately, it's one of things that won't work without a subscription and I don't think it's just an Autel thing, but could be wrong. This is why scanners often state they are FCA auto auth compliant.
Oh this is great! Thank you :) I thought you need active subscription to use it at all! I'm very happy to see this. Cos I will probably only update once every 4-5 years or so as I generally have older cars. Thanks again :)
Funny, then why is it every single time my sub expires within a couple months it stops working. Either it will not ID a car or the Bluetooth stops working. As soon as I buy the update like magic it works perfect. This has happened 3 times with 2 different units.
Not sure why you experienced this. But if you had a backup you could restore the device without needing to pay a subscription (that's if you didn't plan to). I did a video on backups/restoration. See below. Currently, I have my backup in 2 different places. Lol. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3OHAdF2SWQ8.html
It's strange that some viewers are having different experiences. Maybe Autel changed something in the recent versions? I'll check my MK808Z-BT, it's out of subscription.
AUTEL is an unethical company that takes advantage of its consumers. I acquired a maxisys pro in 2015 and had no reason to upgrade its software because it was compatible with all of my vehicles. A free update released an application that works like ransomware and installs a timer that prevents you from accessing the diagnostic part of the tool. Now, all I get is a “Software is not authorized!” message when I try to use the diagnostic part of my tool The only available option is to purchase an upgrade from Autel for $1400.00. Product knotting is illegal in the United States, and this corporation should be severely punished for what they're doing to their customers in order to create cash flow due to the recent lawsuit Autel settled.
This problem is well reported and may not need purchasing a subscription to fix. Go to this page www.autel.com/faqs.jhtml you will see it as a frequently asked question as well as Autel's solution for it. Hope this helps. Do let me know if this solves your problem.
How's there not in the lawsuit against autel for this as customers are not signing contracts with the knowledge that this will happen in a few years after subscription expires.
Agree. But in fairness, before each update you install, the tool reminds you to make a backup. If you have one, you can always restore and be left out in the cold.
This is interesting. A lot of people are having this complaint. I'm in my 2nd out of subscription stint and will check again to see if any of these will happen for the first time. Did you make a backup?
I bought a autel elight around 2016 with 2ys free updates AND The subscription ran out my autel worked okay but I did notice that the Manuel and the function that takes me to the website for the codes did not work and I couldn't program or clone modules but I was able to program Honda keys and Ford keys but I did update it this year when they had their black Friday sale and I bought The subscription for about half The Price and I can Tell the big difference from an updated autel and one without a subscription and I really hope that autel does the sale again around Thanksgiving AND I am happy with my 1/2 price subscription!!!
True talk. Because there are so many updates over the course of a year, it really adds up when you get a subscription. Have you seen my video on the cheapest way to get a subscription? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CbrJg-KP7ZE.html
My MP808TS has been expired since 2019. I just programmed 2 TPMS sensors, suddenly can't program last 2 says update device. At a minimum, after expiration go to wifi and forget networks and never connect it again. I considered it...and should have.
This is insane! Not sure why some of us are having a different experience. My has been expired twice and I haven't faced any such restriction. In fact it's currently expired. Is it asking you for a firmware update? Those are usually free even if expired and I do them all the time.
@@DIYAutoworksNG it starts to program....then grey window pops up says this is a new product. Update device to complete or something. After I'd done 2 of them.
I think BMW is one of those cars that support online coding. Such "online" functions would fall into the category that require connection to Autel servers and are amongst those disabled.
Depends on what you mean by resetting the modules. Though it does this for most cars, it's best to check Autel's coverage tool for certainty. autel.com/vehicle-coverage/coverage2
Thanks for the explanation, but pls my autel mx808 can no long scan from 1999 model to 2007 which I use to scan it Before. Now I can only scan for 2008 upward and I dont know the problem please help me
I bought a used one will I need to update it in order for it to work because I hook the bt connection up and it keeps say vehicle not supported... I even tried it on a 2012 Chevy Cruze and I said the same thing.
The first thing is to ensure the tool you bought supports the function w you are trying to perform on the car. If a function is not supported you will most times get that response or the vehicle communication will fail. You can use this link to check if your Chevy Cruze is supported. autel.com/vehicle-coverage/coverage2 Alternatively, you may try to connect to the car using generic OBD mode. If it doesn't work, the tool may be faulty, or you could have a short in the vehicle OBD DLC port circuit e.g blown fuse. If the you are able to scan the car with other scanners then a broken OBD DLC circuit is ruled out.
Hi, I'm struggling to program an additional key to a Mitsubishi Outlander 2012 using the MK808 2022 edition. The error I'm getting after inserting new key after the master key is "key status can not be read" Iv tried using another key, a used original Mitsubishi key belonging to another vehicle but I also get an error message "key is wrong type". What can be the problem? Also there are a few option the main two are Key register and Add an additional key? When should you use each one or what is the difference between the two? Thanks
Mitsubishi seems to have some peculiar protocol for programming their keys. This article may be helpful mitsubishi.automotive-manuals.com/outlander-2008/M142750630017100ENG.HTML I have also noticed that sometimes, the route through which you entered the programming could affect the result. Did you go through service functions or via the diagnostic menu? Try a different route. BTW, Mitsubishi warns against using a key registered to another car during programming... Weird in my opinion.
Good question. I have not seen this specifically but I doubt it would. I will play around in the diagnostics menu and report back if I find anything. Mostly likely, one will just have to troubleshoot for misfires and rule out clogged injectors /worn spark plugs manually.
It depends on the make and year of the vehicle there ECU come with the option of switching nozzle/ spark plugs on and off. My 2010 Honda Accord does not have any of that options, but I worked on a 2008 CRV and was able to switch on and off nozzles. I got the Autel 906TS.
My Maxicom MK808 will no longer communicate to reset degradation data on nissan leaf battery packs. They never told me this was the case when I bought the thing.
Sad to hear. Haven't really had experience with BMS for hybrids. Did you backup the device? Did it stop immediately your subscription expired? If it didn't, restoring the device may fix it. Betterstill, you could reach out to Autel support for advice.
same here after 1 year end subscriptions ends i cannot read fault codes from a 2019 Volvo XC40 as it will show error 11003 wich was told me i need to buy new subscription is this really allowed to block even reading out fault codes i think we need to go against Autel if we find enough people they really rip you off especially if you don't use it often it is simple to expensive to renew it each year !
Not very clear on the question. You mean if it will continue to work without a subscription and you have a backup? It will work even without a backup. Backups are for it the files on the tool get corrupt like a smart phone could.
Ok, it's been almost a year since you posted this video, is everything still working without a subscription? I'm wondering if the TPMS functions still work because I've noticed on mine, that it has to be connected to the internet before it works and I'm afraid that when my subscription ends, it won't work. My return window is about to close (Amazon), so I'm trying to figure out if I should keep the MP808TS or return it and buy the Xtool D8. Thank you for any info you can offer.
Hey, everything still works! Coincidentally, I scanned a neighbour's Lexus just yesterday which was having a TPMS issue. Worked like a charm. I don't need to be connected to the Internet to do TPMS tasks. What car is this? It may be a requirement of the car you are hooked up to.
@@DIYAutoworksNG It was on a 2015 Chevy Cruze. I was away from home when I got a service TPMS system message on the DIC. I had the scanner with me so I tried to access the TPMS system and it said that it had to be connected to WIFi. After I got home, I tried it and I was able to access the system. Thanks for the reply!
@@DIYAutoworksNG Ok, I figured out the problem. Without a WiFi connection, you can't auto read the VIN, you have to manually select the vehicle. Note that this only occurs when using the diagnostic tab of the TPMS app. If you're going through the main Diagnostic app on the home screen, you can still auto read the VIN without a WiFi connection. Thanks again!
Now that my one-year is expiring tomorrow, I'm wondering, and I live in the U.S., if there's any good reason to download the data available for vehicles that are not sold in the U.S. like the Peugeot, Opel, the China cars? I can't think of any myself.
Personally, I downloaded the Peugeot and Opel, but deleted most of the Chinese cars since I don't see myself working on any of them. Be sure to make a backup!
@@DIYAutoworksNG Ok, thank you. They say to backup only the "Scan" folder but what about the apps and other folders? Are they restored when you reset the scanner?
Just copy that scan folder. That contains the apps, updates as well scan reports. To restore after a reset, replace the scan folder with the one you copied.
Can any one comfirm that the mk808 ( Not the TS ) can work on Asian cars and EU cars from 1996? because Autel UK site says the MK808 works on Asian cars from 2008 and EU cars from 2000 but the MK808TS works o all cars from 1996 .....any one knows if that is the case?
From first principles, the US enforced OBDII compliance for all cars sold in the US market in 1996, while the EU did the same in 2001 for gasoline cars, diesel cars followed in 2004. What's more important is the region the car was made for. E.g an Asian car (Honda) made for the US market had no choice but to conform to OBDII policy by 1996. This was when OBD ports moved to the standard 16-pin layout. All things being equal, the MK808 should follow the above in terms of access to cars. I don't see the MK808TS having access to EU cars across board before 2001, since there was really no policy. That said, this is where the proprietary OBDI connectors come in. This is my opinion though. You can email Autel tech support for a definitive response.
I was under the impression the mx versions where America supported scanners damn I’m sorry to hear that man I been looking for a bi directional scanner for weeks and just can’t make heads or tails out of autel how did yours perform up til when it took a shit
I also think the MX was largely for the US market but haven't heard this from Autel. I did a video on Autel vs XTOOL that may help you dilemma on picking a tool. It may be helpful. Just search Autel vs XTOOL, it should come up.
Hey bro i do have subscription expired.. and i am working on a car and even though it says its connected to internet, but using reapir assit it saying connect to internet, not allowing to download the file.. is it a problem because its expired!!
It may be because of the expired subscription. In my experience, anything that requires connection to Autel servers won't work. Not 100% sure, but that's where my head's at. You could reach out to Autel support to verify.
I haven't done so before and so cannot exactly say. Would you consider Aliexpress? I have bought from there and have confirmed links which I have included in some video descriptions. Is there a tool you are considering in general?
Hi want to buy from autel on aliexpress. Would you suggest to buy official autel store or the other? Im from philippines and i want to buy from aliexpress. Im worry about device lock. The device is to expensive. Best regards!
I have the MaxiSys Elite. I never would connect it to the internet, but in Nov 2021 I did and was offered a small update with no charge. I downloaded it and now no new vehicles show up in the history. In addition the unit reboots while i am in the middle of a scan causing me to loose my work and time. It was fine before the "update". Is Autel planting viruses to force updates???
I haven't experienced this before. Did you do a backup before the update? If you did, you can restore things back to how they were. There's always a risk of data loss during an update and that's why Autel advises backing up the scan folder before doing an update. The scan folder probably got corrupted which explains not seeing scan history. I guess you are out of subscription?
Hi, it's a known issue, they seem to push "updates" that brick your device in order for you to purchase another subscription. A few users on forums have complained about this same curious issue.
A number of people have reported nasty experiences when their subscription expired. Unfortunate. I guess you've had one. Do you mind sharing? Mine has been all good.
For this particular device the update fee is 599 but they are usually 2 sales a year that bring pricing sub $400. You will have to pay the full update cost as you can't pick and choose.
No it won't call autel they tell you you can't code try coding mini cooper 2010 at the end of coding it said to renew my membership will not code then it stops coding it forces you to buy it
@@DIYAutoworksNG yeah see that’s what I thought I was hoping if you are subscribed to FCA I could still access FCA without updates but they all want a piece of your wallet
@@DIYAutoworksNG They clearly didn't watch it. Any thoughts on the MK808? Does it work in the same manner? I've heard people saying 1) you need an internet connection to use the device for any tasks, and 2) that it does stop working after 1 year, unlike your MP808.
Thanks! Some tasks require Internet access or connection to Autel servers. Such functions won't work when a subscription expires. However, its not true that the MK808 requires Internet for all tasks. Also not true that it will stop working if your subscription expires. Same sules apply for both scanners
For example, programming some Mercedes Benz keys, online coding (there's offline coding), However, these these are not supported on the MK808 I believe. Also, FCA cars after 2017 because of the secure gateway module need Internet authentication for the tool to have access to these FCA cars.
How you doing men, I have another question for you, if you don't update your scanner for example the las 3 years and when you want me a update you need to pay the previous update to be available to update the newest year, or just need tu pay the last update year and automatic update the previous years, you have to pay more for the updates if you have backup updates?
@@DIYAutoworksNG that's not bad, thanks men I'm gonna buy this scanner pretty soon just because I watch your videos and I'm learning how to use. Your videos are pretty clear how to use this scanner.
Excellent video. So much so I purchased MK906bt. Wondering should I pick and choose the make/model updates or just grab them all? I don’t want to slow it down needlessly.
Thanks for the compliment! My advice is to pick the updates on cars you need. For me I even started unistalling some of those rare brands I won't ever work on. JAC, etc.

One example is the Bluetooth remote OBD-2 port “VCI“ plugin. comes with a built-in LED flashlight so you can see where to plug-in at. Really just a lot of nice touches like that.

I recieved my MK906pro. It is not working on European cars! Apparantly I should have bought it at a EU dealer!!! That intel is nowhere to be found. Now trying to return the device, Autel is simply avoiding my question to send me the return adress. They admit it doesn't work ( mindblowing) but refuse to let me return the device. What a crap company!!
Hey. Where exactly did you buy from? From an American dealer? Personally, I avoid buying from Autel directly and rather buy from authorized Chinese dealer/retailers on Amazon or the like. The Chinese retailers usually ship the global version of tools that are not limited by market regions. I've used my MP808TS in Europe and it works well (used on a Mercedes). I also email sellers to know if their tool is IP-restricted or not. I've looked up the MK906PRO and it should work on European cars. Autel should really ditch this regional approach to stuff. Sorry mate. Definitely return it.
@@DIYAutoworksNG I cant wrap my mind around the fact that we need to find this out ourselves! I read on their website (after i got my device) beware of the grey market!! Now I get you. I think it will work on other European cars. That Viano is a pain when it comes to scan tool support. It's not just Autel, I believe. I've also searched for support with the XTOOL devices I own, and they don't support the car either. If you are able, plug the device to another European car and see if it works.
