No, parts of spinning wheels are *never* glued in place. (They fit into tapered holes, and are meant to be broken down if necessary.) And it is not possible to cut out a new flyer with the required degree of accuracy simply on the bandsaw - cut it out roughly if you wish, but then it has to be mounted on a mandrel and turned down to make it absolutely centred and symmetrical. (This is not actually all that easy, because you are turning to the ghost image). It then needs to be balanced, (usually a static balance, because dynamic balance machines have disappeared, and are expensive if you can find one.) Actually, broken flyer arms are very common, and they *can* be safely repaired in most instances. But the "consultants" are correct, a simple glue repair is NOT safe. The repair needs to be reinforced with inset splines or cross-pinned dowels to stabilize it. The Spin Doctor
