You guys should do a reclaimed wood guitar build using wood from pallets. I'd like to see a pro builder do it since most of the vids like that on RU-vid are people that have no idea how to build guitars.

Ben I'd like to a video where you repair a twisted neck. Remove the fret board replace the truss rod. Add the stiffening rods. Reglue refret... The whole 9 yards. These videos are must see tv for guys like me. My guitars are an extension of me and I don't trust that easily. Thanks a million

Precautions around dust are always sensible, but carbon fibre particles probably aren't carcinogenic. OSHA and the HSE don't regard carbon fibre dust as a carcinogen. Epoxy dust is potentially toxic, but not significantly more so than many tropical hardwood dusts. You should be fine with normal dust control processes for managing wood dust. One risk to be aware of is that carbon fibres are conductive. They can cause short-circuits in power tools, creating a potential fire hazard. For cutting neck reinforcement rods, I'd suggest using a hacksaw with a perma-grit blade and working well away from any machine tools. Cutting in gradually from all four sides rather than cutting straight through from one side will give a much cleaner cut with less splintering.

I've seen some plans that use large square section tube partway up the neck (14th fret or so I think). I assume the idea is to alter how the neck bows so that the action can be lower over the higher frets for a similar clearance across the frets on the nut side of the octave. Has anyone tried this technique, is it useful for getting an action low and and still relatively quiet. I confess to spending a great deal of time finding the point at which fret buzz is just not noticeable through the amp unless I get violent with my playing. Keeps the shreddier guitars low and fast at the expense of some sustain which I don't need more of with a loud high gain amp.

Also I what is a truss rod, I only got into building a couple of months ago with no prior experience. Don't mean to ask stupid questions but would appreciate an explanation as to what it is 👍

I’m looking at having a custom neck made for me through a company near me, but I’m sort of confused on what I should do can you help? A while back I built an Eric Clapton partscaster that was a heavy relic. I had the body hardware and the pickups lying around but no neck, so I bought a cheap squier neck off a buddy just to get the thing playable. It’s a rosewood board, and while originally I liked the look of maple more, the rosewood looks way more at home on a relic and it grew on me a lot. Clapton only uses maple boards. I know rosewood is supposed to sound and feel different but is there any way I could get the feel and sound of a maple board with the looks of a rosewood one? I was originally thinking ebony, but ebony doesn’t get a finish so it feels like a tighter grained rosewood. Then I was looking at roasted maple because at least it’s darker, but that is different as well. Any recommendations please? The reason I’m getting a custom one built is because I want the older 1987-1998 Clapton strat shape of the more pronounced v rather than a newer one or a standard c or d. Please help me out here I don’t know what to do!!

I'm finding alot of carbon fiber square rods that are hollow in the middle. The size I'm looking at is 3mm x 3mm inner diameter is 2mm. What is your thoughts on this?

Ben, what are your thoughts about filing down the last frets slightly more while doing a fret level for lowest possible action?

I have received 4x4 mm carbon fiber rods today. And they are not as stiff as I thought. I can bend them without any effort. And that OK or I got a wrong product? Thank you!

hey Ben, i need to clean my guitar, but, i lent it to a freind, and, they left it out of its case, and they are a family of fairly heavy smokers, so what would you suggest i use to clean off the nicotine without destroying the finish? thanks for the fantastic videos.

Other tip with carbon fiber is the dust conducts electricity. Killed a dremel last time I used it. Air tools are the go
@wyvern4588
@wyvern4588 5 лет назад
just spray out the dremel with electrical cleaner after use and let it dry before you use it again (unless you are a pyro)

Quick question: would blending graphite powder and epoxy produce a product similar to carbon fiber rods, or just black epoxy?
@nyalarhotep
@nyalarhotep 4 года назад
If by that you mean similar in strength, than absolutely not. All strength of carbon fiber comes from its fibrous form. Powder is not fiber, and will be nowhere near as strong.

When air temperature drops, it can hold less moisture, which causes the relative humidity to raise. That's why heated indoors are dry as hell, if there's no humidifier.

I have had no luck at all I just want to make my own templates. Please if you could help me out I would be truly grateful.

I have a question...is using a square that is 9mm x 9mm, too much?? (hollow tube in the middle of the square thought)
@CrimsonCustomGuitars
@CrimsonCustomGuitars 3 года назад
if it is hollow I'm not sure how much strength it will give. also would have to be close in to the centre of the neck so it doesn't blow through the back,. B

@@CrimsonCustomGuitars ouu its strong..realy strong didnt cut it yet.. 1meter long and bearly bends..my fear is that the truss rod won't be able to move the neck because of it

i made a metal-machine many years ago and since i dont have access to carbon fiber and i wanted it to hold super-heavy tension i literally ran 2 bars of steel, 8th inch thick and about half inch wide down the neck, flared them out and down the through-neck slab into the body and then bent them around to meet at the tail of the guitar and welded them together. it also has a truss rod. a 27 inch scale with a 106 set tuned to F#...yea that's 35 pounds of tension per string that bastard doesnt move a bit. had strings that heavy on it for 8 years, never adjusted the truss, its still dead straight. ive been using a subtitute for a truss rod lately. basically a T-bar of 8th inch by half inch tall running down the neck and pinned to the wood by about a dozen little rods. they end up a little heavy but not too bad. the double rod bar and truss guitar weighs a ton, that shit was overkill. lol.

was about to say, "how about a carbon fiber feetboard", rite up till you said its highly carcinagenic....still could give the board a nice poly clear coat..slicker than ebony... I personally prefer near to zero neck releif as a guitar can accomplish.... my motto is...when you have to dig in to get under a string for a bend...give it just a cunt hair..
