Imagine you were a veteran factory worker and over the years there were many tools introduced to speed up the assembly line. Then one day you saw the first robotic arm. If you were paying attention you would have realized there was a change of INTENT. Previous tool upgrades were made to AID you, this one was to REPLACE you. It would still be a hundred years before the last human worker leaves the floor but the change in INTENT is clear. Programmers are ok for now - but artists are up a creek without a paddle with generative ai - just like translators lost their careers over the past 5 years as Google Translate slowly improved year by year. Remember, you don't have to fire all programmers to have a ruined career - all that is needed is that the supply needs to solidly outstrip demand and suddenly the average salary drops from 100k to 40k and every second programmer is on skid row. Programming is still the best option but keep your expenses low and your savings high.
It’s an amazing tool for learning. I just type in a complex topic and tell GPT “explain this like I am a child” and it will break it down in a way that’s easy to understand. You can also copy and paste complex code and it will translate it into easy to understand English. If you’re learning how to code you absolutely should use it.
This is precisely what I do! I ask ChatGPT WHY code is written the way it is, and it breaks down complex or even simple code. It's so helpful, especially for me, since I'm taking my first steps into learning Java to get a general understanding of programming.
My favorite comment I’ve seen on this topic : “chat gpt codes what you want. Until clients know exactly what they want, our jobs are safe”. Plus my 2cents is a lot of smaller company employees don’t even know how to properly use Microsoft word and excel. Can’t imagine them using the chat gpt code in something like vscode then hosting a site with it. That said, I do like your take on it changing the field. Chat gpt is gonna help engineers solve more issues IMO. Stack overflow code has been copied countless times. Whether you use chat gpt or another source plenty of people are going to copy code they couldn’t code themselves. However, it will be interesting to see how this evolves over time.
@Brian Gee I’ve watched people use it for certain frameworks and judging from how specific they were with asking chatgpt to code, it still takes understanding syntax and knowing what you want each component to do
For phone number, open ai just want to confirm that you are human to test the chatGPT response. So many sms phone service or ip phone. They disable it to prevent from fake accounts.
@@brian-cache Also Open AI services are only available in few countries so they want to confirm you're not using a VPN. I can't try Chat GPT where I live.
