The Carolina Panthers have developed a culture of losing over the past seven years. Is this due in part to the temperament of the recent Panthers coaches? Matt Rhule and Frank Reich are both seen to be "nice guys" but were they too nice to get through to the players and lead this team to long-term success. Now that Dave Canales has arrived, is he just another "nice guy" or will Canales be able to buck whatever perceived trend in Carolina and finally win big?

So Andy Reid is probably the nicest coach there is in the league and he has three Super Bowls

I don't know... you can't just say that if a coach is nice, he won't win. Joe Gibbs won three Super Bowls with three different QBs and may be the nicest guy ever. Rhule may have been nice, but he was also a tool. Reich looked like he couldn't care less about being a coach anymore. Different strokes.

He's nice but he also seems stern and like he can be a stickler for the details. I don't think he'll baby any of these guys

Not once have I looked at a super bowl winning team and thought "They definitely won the super bowl because they weren't nice". Teams win because of talent, because they focus on the little details, because they have a good coaching staff. The 2015 panthers werent successful because they weren't nice, the won games because they ran the damn ball, had good QB play, and had a disciplined defense.

Pete Carroll and Andy Reid aren't mean people, and they win. Plus, players respect them and want to play for them.

I think Canales is absolutely a players coach, and his OC already knows what Canales wants.. so it should be a muuuuch better season than last yr

You’re the most negative out of all of the panthers reporters. Panthers fans haven’t had a lot to look forward to in recent years; however we also have to be one of the most pessimistic fan bases in the entire league. There are multiple paths to take to reach the same destination. Even if canales and Bryce young are outliers from the typical model of nfl success it doesn’t automatically disqualify them. They said Stephon curry was too small to be successful in the nba because they hadn’t witnessed a player of his style before, so he was automatically written off before getting the right opportunity. Bryce young and Dave canales will be here for the next 10 years

Bryce would be fine, even we drafted stroud, same results, people don't think u need a good offensive line and they got it way better than this year , we will have rbs doing their thing, and probably the best 3 Wide receivers we had in a min, we good, watch despite our schedule, we believe

I expect all coaches/coaching staff to be nice! Who wants to be coached by someone who’s mean to them!? BUT I do understand exactly what he’s trying to say. I’d rather be coached by someone who will cuss me out, light a fire under my ass and get on the guys. That doesn’t make them mean. I know it sounds ignorant but even just having coaches that’ll cuss and curse like crazy can help get guys going. Frank Riech was just to “Christian” or religious and seemed like he just didn’t even wanna be there. Strong coaching, cussing and getting on guys isn’t being mean. But I do feel like it helps! It makes the coaching staff more relatable. And not putting up with BS can help keep guys in line

I just wanna go on record to say that the culture that was built in our last Super Bowl run was built by Cam, and allowed by Rivera. I don’t think coaches build culture but the players they choose. We in the Bible Belt, has always been a “we don’t want players with any issues” teams. And the goody two shoes fans support it until we lose.
