Today we are back with this 1976 Jeep CJ5 but this time we came prepared! Now that we have a starter hopefully we'll be able to bring this CJ back to life and drive it 150 miles back to the shop!
It definitely has some problems, such as a misaligned axle, non-responsive starter solenoid, and uncooperative engine, but thats nothing that rebuild rescue can't handle! Will a new starter, fresh gas, and some old school rebuild rescue ingenuity be enough to get this 45 year old vehicle back to the shop? Find out in this episode!

Watching this, I keep screaming to no one, "You got fuel." "You are turning the engine over." "Now check for spark!" "Take off that distributor cap." File the point gap if needed. Fuel and spark are always the first two checks.

He's been driving me nuts for two videos. I'm thinking it's pretty basic: Fuel, Spark, Compression! Oh! and that starter won't turn until the stuck Bendix pulls in and allows the field switch to make. The alternator bearing only costs like $3.00. Wasted money and effort.

I have owned three CJ's from that era, 75 CJ5, 77 CJ7 golden eagle, and a 79 CJ7. The 77 CJ7 Golden Eagle, with the 304 was my favorite. They all had sloppy steering boxes, and the bigger the tires, and the more mudding you did with them, the sloppier they got. I miss every one of them now though.

@@rebuildrescue LOL...everytime you jumped the selinoid I wondered if you had the switch on, but I figured your cameraman must have turned it on, but you never checked for spark so I figured you knew if it was on. Then my ass cheeks were scrunchin' seat, knowin' that springpack bolt top was prolly sheared and the axle was crooked, on top of the Worn Out manual steering box! My '82 CJ5 had the same box and we put a stock 350 Chevy in it. When I stomped the gas in 2nd gear on a dirt road, it swapped ends ditch to ditch several times, with alternate brake And gas pedals before I got her straightened back out!! The steering wheel would almost go full circle each way...lol So I can't Imagine drivin' it 150 miles with the axle crooked, and possibly moving forward and back. Well, now you might know why the guy Rolled it! Puttin' new cylinder heads on mine, and watchin' yur vid during breaks was entertainin' tho. Keep 'er sideways!!

Unfortunately it's a bit harder and more expensive to do this in the UK because you can't just find an old car that's been sat for 20 years and drive it on the roads legally, you have to book it in for an MOT to get a certificate of roadworthiness before you can drive it! Loving the 401 project as well and can't wait to see the finished result but rest up that leg brother otherwise you'll do yourself more damage and be off it for longer.

I own a CJ 5, and ill say it like it is. Nobody abandoned that jeep. Ground it better. Pull the plugs squirt some oil type substance, put more power. Varoom.

Great Video. Body and Hood look like a AJ Manufacturing body. They where based in PA but went out of business in or around 1998. At the time, they built the nicest, strongest and heaviest fiberglass tubs. I still have one of their one piece front ends.

Congratulations. Job well done. Can't imagine an easier vehicle to work on given that the hood was twenty feet from the engine compartment. I'm pretty sure that's just the way a CJ 5 steers and stops. ie not very well. Loved the cutaway gags that you include in your vids.

Loving this, here in the UK and I'm desperate for a 'spanner project' in a world where it's so easy to chuck something in the bin and buy a new one, it's so refreshing to see how easy it is to fix things and get them running again. A bit of perseverance and patience, coupled with knowledge and tools, it's outstanding to watch. Keep the content coming.
