This is my 1966 Hillman Imp. Looking a bit tired, true, but still a great little runner. It’s mid-April and next weekend is the nation DriveIT day, a day when around the country lots and lots of old vehicles will be driven out on the roads. Today I need to get my Hillman Imp out of the garage and take it for a test drive. Fingers crossed all is well - let’s see.
This is a new feature on the Linleys channel but my car has been part of my life for a very long time - but that’s another story. Would you be interested in seeing more of my Hillman Imp? Do you own an old car/vehicle yourself?

What a thing to do to a starter motor !!!! I would have pre-primed the carb rather than this madness !

@@Linleys We had a Model T and a Model A and a 1938 Chev as a kid on the farm. The Model T was nicknamed Mothers Worry for obvious reasons at the time. Imps Minx Standards Morris Minors A30s A40s etc were all around us. Nostalgic memories definitely mate. Love those old car rallies you do. Bushyboy Oz.

My grandmother used to have a brown Hillman Imp until about 1985, but actually it was the more upmarket Singer Chamois model, SUK866F.

I bought one quite a few years ago now basically for the plate.Having had one in the day.The performance was abysmal and was beginning to think I had rose tinted specs.Eventually found the bus driver previous owner had used bus gearbox oil / treacle night and day.

I had a red Imp as my first car, one of the very last on an R plate. I also had a Sunbeam Stiletto, which is to me, one of the best looking cars from that era.

I had a Stiletto for a while as well but it was totally rusty, couldn’t keep two so just kept the engine. Still using it now! Thanks for following along and your comment. Cheers. Warren 🚗

What an ugly little car, it is not enough with the steering wheel on the wrong side, it also has the engine in the wrong end. Just kidding Warren, it was very nice to see how much you enjoyed driving it. Please show more. 😀

Ha... this brings back memories of the Hillman Imp that my girlfriend had when I was 18... she went on holiday and I borrowed it as I was carless at the time, I kind of over did it on a long and as fast as it would go run 😂😂 and I blew it up, with oil and water everywhere, I'm sure they used to suffer with over heating problems because of the rear mounted engine. It was a fun little thing that cost me around £200 at the time as a separation present 😂😂 I never saw her or the car again. It's fantastic that you're still keeping it alive 👍

@Linleys I think it was dead for sure... £200 at the time was a lot of money to part with, but I doubt it would have fixed it.

I always liked IMPs (despite all their challenges), especially the Chamois and clubman spec cars. I ran a 30-40 year old MGB and AH Sprite as daily drivers in the more recent past😊💜👍
