check the Vats module fuse also my 91 vats module died from jumping it being constantly dead i simply bypassed it with a bypass chip that sends 30 an 60hz signals to the ECU how it all works is simple the ECU waits for the specific signal 30 or 60 hz the VATS is waiting for one of the 15 codes each key got its own resistor with is your code for the vats now if the vats dies or gets a wrong signal code from key it shuts of the injectors and starter relay seing you can still crank it mieans to me your relay for the starter is already bypased by the prev owner of the car to check that theory simply add fuel or starter sprey in your air intake if it starts and dies after few sec your wats is dead or key resistor is dead also try to start it in neutral if it does your neutral safety switch is dead to in my case it took me 2 years to figure it all out ended up being a combination of problem maus eat my wires to the vats jump starting it blew them up damaging neutral safety swich also you said cable gets hot thats also a indication of bad wiring and fusable links in the positive battery cable r blown still gets you power but when it needs to crank it will get hot how did you wire up the tailights 91 to 82 ? if wrongly it will cause bunch of wiring issues haha ben there to many times cheers!!!
Thanks dude, I've bypassed VATs on previous cats before so I do have experience with it. This cars starter enable relay hasnt been touched. I've since discovered that inside my Dizzy cap looked pretty damn rusty and I'm getting no spark, so looks like its time to pull the dizzy and get a nice new one in 😉
