(Choke out, Silent prayer before you turned the key)Ruh ruh ruh ruh ruh….rrruh…rrrruh……click. Followed by (expletives! ) door slam, rust flakes dropping on the ground, then stomping off toward the bus stop. Great days 🙄 used to put a blanket over the engine at night to keep the damp out! Seriously! Only forgot to take it off once though 😆

Had six corsairs. 3 saloons, 2 estates, and a Crayford convertible. My favourite Ford of the 60's/early 70's. My 2000E had 146,000 on it and still ran like a sewing machine. The best and most reliable car I have ever owned. It turned over exactly 4 times and fired every time. I miss that car.

I used to service one of these in the early 80s , I remember if they stood without running for a few months with no oil in the bore they would snap a couple of piston rings upon start up , I fitted some rings twice ! Bit of a rot box though , not seen one for many years , we’ll done getting her going 👍🏻

2000E was a heavy car, bit of a cruiser, V4 engine not capable as inline four cylinder for tuning. The manual gearbox was superb strong gearbox with very fast cog change only beaten by rocket gearbox. These gearboxes were highly sought after for rallying etc. You would be amazed by the speed of gear change.

I had a Corsair in the early 80s as my first car, inherited from an ancient uncle in Norfolk, it was my daily drive as a freebie, I soon learnt basic car maintenance skills as it was a nightmare to start on cold/damp winter mornings

I used to walk past one of these on the way to school in the 1980s. On a winter's morning with frost on the ground, I can remember it like yesterday.The days of that starter sound and the smell of petrol, with the choke pulled out ,mixed with burning oil!

Dad came home with a new one of these B reg which I think makes it 1964. That was an auto box and must have been a 1500. It started going rusty within a year and was totally rotted out by 1969 when it was scrapped! Thankfully they don't make 'em like they used to! This was a new model then and we had fun as the petrol station attendant (when they filled your car for you) could not find the filler cap, which was under the rear number plate which flipped down. I then had two of them in the 70s when I started driving. Copper metalic one that all the pain was peeling off. I used to carry a spray can and touch it up. Good luck with this old thing! Brave man!!!

Yes! My first Mk1 2 litre Capri GT was actually a V4 but still a nice car to drive. Ended up actually having five Capris through the 1970s as I was totally addicted to them before we had the kids. (There were a few Corsairs around but they never really caught on like the Cortinas and Capris) Happy days😊

My dad loved his Fords and had a Corsair. They did rot but GTX cans, pop rivets, filler and a generous coat of underseal sorted that out! Joked that the underseal along the bottom got higher every year! Hope this Corsair sees the road again.

Good job done. If it was me trying to start any engine that had been lying idle for a long time, I’d have taken all the spark plugs out, squirted each cylinder with a little bit of engine oil, and got a fully charged heavy duty battery, then cranked the engine over a few times with the spark plugs out, to lube the cylinders and piston rings, then check plugs, if they were old and for all they cost stick in a new set of spark plugs, then check the ignition system including the rotor arm, points, leads, cap, etc for spark and correct settings, if you have a spark, and fuel and good compression, it should start.. I’m not sure about older auto gearbox’s but wouldn’t Reverse or Drive not have an inhibitor switch on the linkage/gearbox to stop the engine from cranking unless the lever was in N (Neutral) or P (Park) ..
@jonathontaylor8861
@jonathontaylor8861 2 года назад
The first step is remove all plugs, lubricate the cylinders and at v.least clean the plugs, you've e probably destroyed the cylinder walls cranking it over dry.

It Doesn’t rust any more / less than cars of the 80’s 90’s 00’s etc it’s just that it’s 50 something years old, and we used to make do and mend to keep old cars on the road for longer back in the day with less money.People bang on about being skint now, trust me on this, they haven’t got a clue.

loving all these will in run videos nice to see you are striping these rusty classics for parts to keep other classics running instead of just banger racing them which is simply a waste of rare cars in the name of a so called sport it not a sport it is just mindless vandalisim a little tip for you to get these old cars running invest in a cheap 12v tick type pump off ebay to supply fuel to the carb when trying to get the engines to run that's what i used to do when i was in the trade keep up the good work and keep the videos coming
