Another runner! I am glad you have had good luck with those Kohler engines. The one in a Craftsman I was handed by a friend to get going had a cracked block. . . I patched it long enough for him to get a season out of it. Until he forgot to check the oil one day.

The Kohler Command single cylinder engines are awesome! I have a John Deere L110 with 590 Hours and the only issue the engine has is it tends to burn a bit of oil. The transaxle has had the fluid changed every 100 Hours with 10W50 motor oil, and hasn’t had a issue thus far.

This is an old thread but the fix is somewhat easy. Pull trans, pop sealed fill hole,go easy so you can reuse cap. Then drain oil, pull pan and clean the inside totally. Inspect the flat part of the pump and motor and if no deep wear get grey case sealer and put back together and fill with 15w-50 full synthetic oil put back on and bleed trans. JD puts 10w-30 oil in unit to save cost and is NOT proper. I was given a l 130 with same problem with 633hrs and ran it to 688hrs and still ran fine when I sold it. youtube has vids to help.

Looks like it would be worth fixing. Because the engine runs so well. Just my opinion...a lot of money to fork out in the beginning but I think it would make some good money once it's done.

Alan Marshall I think if it's just the transmission drive belts in need of replacing ($40) rather than having to recondition the transmission ($300) then it will be economically sensible to repair the mower with the other problems and sell it on.

John deeres are awesome. My used 02 John Deere LT150 that I got used for $220 with the same engine ran when I got it, all I had to do was fix the deck. Unfortunately, you have to spend more money now on john deere to get a good one. Lol I should have known the tank on this one was also defective.

Try replacing the transmission fluid with new. That sometimes more than not brings the transmission back to life.

I just had a soccer mom divorced, give me a garage kept l110 I drained gas put sea foam in drained carb , and started right up. Been pushing 3 acres and I rent. But she always got it serviced. And gas tank was replaced and it looks great, I DID TRY TO FIX IT FOR HER FOR FREE, I ALSO CALLED HER AND OFFERED TO GIVE IT BACK ! She said no spent almost 3000.00 on Husqvarna and I still believe this 10 year old or 8 year old I don't know how long that is is better very good score this long was killing me and I've already had a heart attack

I had a model 110 1973 John Deere that wouldn't start. Later we found out that the amp guage was a fusible link, fixed that and it started right up.

The reverse is somewhat normal for these as I've had a couple of them and they were all slow on reverse but it could be the belt

A good video. It will be some money going into it, but it would be a fun/ good challenge. John Deere Lawn Tractors are good. I have a New E110 John Deere. Good Luck.

Believe me when I say this change the hydrostatic fluid in the transmission and that should fix your problem if the fluid is dirty they won't drive good

Makes sense just have to look up how to do it. I know on older models you have to pull them and split the case. Maybe I’ll luck out and this one will have a drain plug

Kohler Command engines are great engines. They will run a long time. I have a 30 yr old 12 hp Stx38 that still runs. I should try to find an L110 engine and swap into mine to get more power.

Oh yea, I have an L130 that has a twin kohler on it, Im 100% sure the engine will outlast the rest of the machine.

well the battery mint take a charge if you trickle charge it overnight. that's 30$ off. if its not the belts the transmission mint be low on fluid. you could just find a stock gas tank online for way cheaper. your average joe is not gonna care about that. your thinking war to far ahead. you could probably fix it for way cheaper than the price you mentioned

As I stated in the video it would start screwing up the same. It’s a manufacturing defect. The seams separate. The battery was fucked. It wouldn’t hold a charge at all.

I have two 1996 craftsmen driving mowers and did have a 1993 craftsmen driving mower I stripped the 93 one down and kept all the good old parts then gave the body and frame away and gave away the 38 inch deck Because the 1993 frame was smaller than the 1996 frame I didn't have no use for it and the transaxle was locked up good because the third gear in the transmission was locked in place was busted So I still have a good 96 frame just need to put the used front axle on and a engine

Yep, I had to replace my gas tank (pain in the a**) The old tank leaked at the seam! Also, the gas cap deteriorated, the seal broke into pieces and clogged the filter) I have a JD L120.

15 years later and my l110 still mowes 2 acers in fl all year long. Just 4 oil changes and 2 blade swaps..the entire time. It will mow field grass 1ft high easy.

How long did you have it on the charger? If it was completely flat it sounds like it’s taking a charge.

lawnmowerdude it wasn’t it lost what charge it had as soon as I tried to start it off the charger. Was on it for about 2 hours in total 2 cycles.

For whatever reason they don't go in reverse on the highest deck setting. Lower it down to 3.5 and it'll reverse really good

Mine goes in reverse just fine on the highest setting. These transmissions can be weak unfortunately

Tuff Torq K46 you can buy rebuild kit off Ebay and RU-vid the procedure. Rebuild it for 50 or 60 bucks.

The son of the guy that owned Lewis mail sold the last 2 of his dad's trucks that sat in Wellsburg NY close to the PA boarder. The guy that bought them both was from.Binghamton NY he got a great deal. $3500.00 for the box truck and $5000.00 for the 1979 international rollback truck. Now the guy can start on his business venture Lewis small engine repair. On the upside the trucks are back on the road again and not in Horse heads Pick a part in Horse heads NY being parted out and crushed for scrap iron Sincerely Robert Gildea

Since this model is what JD builds for Menards....Home Depot and Lowes.I have had mine since 03 and its still running strong.The better models are at a regular JD place.They are way better made and more robust.There are a ton of parts on Ebay.But as far as JD goes........even a parts guy at my local JD dealer says they own an older model that was made totally in USA.As everything else.....JD company looked for a cheaper way out.Same way with Cub Cadets and many others

Since about 2010, B&S engines are made in China. Good for 400 hours. Old ones good for 1,000+.

If parts were cheaper it would be worth fixing but since between the factory and the aftermarket parts industry making so much mark up fixing old mowers isn’t worth it. These companies build throw away garbage for a reason. It’s too hard for me to lay down cash for a mower that I couldn’t justify $300 after it was fixed and your talking around the same price for parts, and that’s if all goes well. I guess I’m cheap because goods and services are just too expensing these days and saving my hard earned money means more to me mowing my lawn or fancy trucks,cars,bikes, and boats of it can’t make me money then I can’t justify owing it, however in this case you’ll sell that thing to somebody and you’ll make some money.

The paint on new John Deere tractors is garbage!!! Neighbor bought one and 1 year old paint on deck is all falling off no primer! I bought a brand new Cub Cadet from a guy that was moving so he sold it for $750.00! New over $1500.00 at least the new Cadets all share same frame and overbuilt tranny!
