What particularly fascinates me about your posts are your reason, logic, trouble shooting skills based on the potential economics of the outcome of the project. For the average home owner that has any number of small engines for maintaining their premises, these videos are excellent tutorials. Not to mention motorcycle and VW engines too.

That first mower runs pretty dang good. Wonder if they parked it because of the starter? Those older twin cylinder engines were pretty good...I wish I would have rebuilt the one in my Craftsman GT18 they just don't build em like they used to. Thanks for the ride in your old VW too but stop showing me those old VW's it makes me want one really bad.

It helps a lot to figure out how to troubleshoot an old engine. I lot of the time the PO doesn't know how to do it so they just push it to the curb!

That LT-1000 is exactly my mower. Earlier today the deck belt broke. Gotta get a can of that Gunk carb cleaner and soak the carb, too. Should be fun to see someone else working on "my" mower.

I had that same mower except mine had the hydrostatic trans. I sold it when it couldn't keep it running. I bet I could keep it running now after watching your helpful videos. Thanks!

A few years ago, I found one of these on the curb down the road with a free sign, doesn't run. Pulled it to my house. Spent about a week tearing into it. It would fire briefly but run really bad, backfire, immediately stall. I cleaned carb, we had spark, etc. Had no clue of the issue. Old guy in the neighborhood who had some engine experience came over. We took the head off. Everything looked good. Then he removed the flywheel. Sure enough, sheered keyway. Got her running perfectly. Wife was really upset because she didn't like the tarped mower in the backyard for two weeks. Well, i ended up just giving it to her younger cousin, who just became a homeowner. I was just happy to bring in her back to life

Hey Mustie 1, I just love your videos. You are one of a few that really takes the time to explain what you are doing and how things work. I can get just about any older car running but when it comes to lawn mowers I am lost lol. Please keep the great educational videos coming.

Mustie and Craftsman mowers. Good old fashioned videos. The nest section brought me back to my friend and I getting his 1983 John Deere 318 going. We ran it for about 2 or 3 months before the carb really crapped up and needed to be taken apart. When we pulled the inner cylinder covers out, we found a mummified mouse in there. Whoops.

I truly hope you never get bored of working through these projects. I learn something every time, not to mention that it just makes for a great start to the day to spend a little "shop time". I don't even have to wash up after! Edit: One I have been wondering about. Remember that little outboard motor you found in that warehouse basement? Looked like it was from the 30's or so? I would love to see what happens with that when you have a moment to get back to it.

Don't let those opposed twins run to long without the engine covers on, they over heat quick.

I have basically the same model only approx. 2 years older and had to put a new engine in mine.... Large acreages, heavy inclines and non pressurised oil systems are not your friend.... Given the information available now, "but just not known to me at the time", I probably could have re-furbished the engine myself... But oh well, what's done is done... DOH!! Love your channel, Keep up the great work!

The 19 hp twin is a good engine, only flaw they usually need a carb rebuild / clean every season but strong around the yard.

Awwwe, hello Lilly dog. :o) It's a good thing you live where you do. If you lived around here, there are very few yard sales and nothing is ever free.

It's not going to rain..your buddy says, then it does that ;) Those IC Platinum twins are wanted motors, and glad you took the time to get it going, sometimes spraying a bit of oil under the collar of the starter while you're breaking it free makes them back to almost perfect. Also re-torque the heads if you remember it, as they're often almost falling off on those!. Had guessed wrong, was sure there were meecies in the air cleaner, then guessed there wasn't going to be too much under the tins..and boy did I get them wrong! And there are a million of the LT 1000's out there. Had told somebody they came with different power plants in them, and they told me "no, they all came w/the same motors" Proof in this very video ;)

I opened up my own small engine repair business last year after watching about 80 of these videos. Goin pretty good. Made about $500 last weekend. Thanks for all the content. Huge Fan :) !

I've got that same mower with a Kohler engine. Strangest thing that happened is the blade control lever broke off in less than 2 years. it must have been defective, the replacement's lasted over 15 years. The worst thing about these is the plastic bushing at the end of the steering shaft. It wears out and the shaft climbs the sector gear instead of turning it. When it gets really bad, it just slips. Not a difficult fix, though.

You are a better weatherman with your predictions than the TV guys! I wish I could find riding lawn mowers for free. But we have guys who pay for junk mowers that advertise all over and snatch them all up before I get a chance at them. Oh well, it's fun watching your yard sale resurrections! Love the VW truck, very nice.

That motor sounded great! Smooth and quiet. The DIY exhaust on the second mower almost looked like a snorkel. What the heck were they trying to mow? 😄 Thanks for another great video! Brian PS - I am still waiting for a video where critters come running out at you!

I picked up a Husky pressure washer (same as Ryobi, Troybilt) for free on the side of the road. Briggs engine is perfect, just had a broken soap injector fitting. I think that's why they junked it. If nothing more it's a free vertical shaft engine.

I have the exact same craftsman but I think mine is a few years older. Mine is a '98 model. Just went through it ,rebuilt the carburator, sanded the deck and painted with XO-RUST. New drive belt,deck belt,blades,air filter,fuel filter,changed oil. It runs just as good as it did new. These old mowers are tough and parts are cheap. Briggs and stratton opposed twin just keep on running!
