Love these old videos where you fix & mend parts rather than CNC new ones💚🇬🇧🌱

Karl, quick tip on your small block chevy install on the brown van. Get the "truck" oil filter for it, Its much longer and holds another qt of oil. This helps keep the engine a little cooler and better lubricated in that enclosed enviorment it lives in which doesn't get the air flow other vehicles get. Just an old tip from an old chevy guy. Keep up the good work.

I don’t know how you can have so many projects going on at once and make progress. I’ve tried that and ended up backing off other projects to get one done. I wish I still had energy like you.
@laszlovona
@laszlovona Год назад
it is good to have a few projects in parallel since if you get fed up with one of them (burdens, failures, or simply fatigue, etc..) you can easily jump to another and have a fresh mind, great working capacity in that 'new' context. (At least this is what seem to be the way for me.)

Work on what your primary project is until you need a break/think out stuff period, or need parts, but stay productive by working on other things you've thought out, got parts for but conversely sat while you did your primary project.😎

Some people need to stay focused on one thing at a time. Others need variety. I have always worked on multiple projects. While you're waiting for parts or supplies on one, you can work on something else. Also, it's good to have time to think about solutions without it being a crisis.

Hi Karl, we were always taught suck-squeeze-bang -blow. Suck..the air/fuel in Squeeze…. Compression of the mix Bang… ignition of the compressed mix Blow…. Exhaust of the spent gasses Each process is a half turn of the crank. To find TDC put a bit of twisted paper into the plug hole and it will blow out on comp stroke. At TDC both rockers on cylinder 1 will float It might help explain it 👍

Hey Karl & crew, You do know that a spot of grease on that pivot point for that engine stand will do wonders for being able to flip it over and it wouldn't squeak so bad. Didn't mean to be so critical to start . Your work is the best, I really enjoy getting the inspiration from your videos. Keep sharing your knowledge , I know a few people that have learned a lot from watching your videos that could never have been able to afford to go to trade school for that kind of knowledge. Thanks again for sharing it helps so many.

Use square u bolts to mount a bumper mount receiver hitch from harbor freight to the back crossmember of your lift. Then buy a small badlands winch and mount it to a receiver mount and then poof you have a removable winch to pull cars in and out of the shop and onto the lift. If you mount another receiver mount to the floor at the far end of the shop you can also just pull cars around that way. It’s great when you work alone.

Roll by jumpin'...got it...and excuse to play with the Baby Buick again. I think that it's great that you have all these good buddies to help you on a project, I always had to do everything myself. Delete the ladder if you're not going to have the roof rack, it makes little sense else. Also ditch the spare tire mount on the hinges. They were always a bad idea as they tended to severely stress and wear the hinges over time, although this does mean you with store the spare inside the van or go without. I've tried going without myself, which is just fine...until you need it. Love the Thrush side pies, had a similar set on a ford van years ago, which is now defunct, they must be in storage somewhere...Some really good music choices recently. "Shiny, " the number one motivation for customiser's and magpies all over the world.

for getting a vehicle into the shop would some chain between 2 of the posts (floor level) with a block midway, then some rope running from the vehicle to be worked on - to the block, then back under the vehicle to be worked on and out in the yard to a running vehicle. So moving the vehicle in the yard away from the shop would pull the other in.

If the holes in the roof aren't much bigger than 1/8", I would consider soldering them instead of welding. For this project, it would be quicker, a lot less work, and no one will see them anyway. You probably need to hammer them flat (two person job), brighten them up with a ball mill in a drill, then solder. Tin the perimeter of the hole first, then fill it with solder. Be sure the entire perimeter is tinned. That way you will have a water tight seal. I use electrical rosin flux solder instead of acid core. I was taught to solder up holes after using pull rods or a slide hammer. That prevents water soaking into any filler used over the dent you're repairing. You can grind, sand or file the top side if you're going further with refinishing. In almost 50 years, I haven't ever had a failure.

Oh man, when I think of all the years I went without rolocs for cleaning gasket surfaces, I do a lot of orphan models, not expensive ones, just rare, so you can't get parts, gotta fabricate anything you mess up. But I've had a few apprentices, and if you give even a pretty inexperienced person a worn out roloc pad, and I've never had one ruin a part, from hogging out a gasket surface, and we do a lot of diesel swaps, and they are even fussier with gaskets. Cause getting them squeaky clean is key to not having leaks, and not having leaks on your old junk, is how you become a bad ass, hah. I got a job as a diesel mechanic, cause my Harley doesn't leak oil. The new ones in the showroom leak oil, lol. Keep on truckin'.

Just a suggestion but if you use Rust-Oleum satin black from a quart can oil base it gives a good looking factory style finish plus is a bit more durable than rattle can only thing you just need is a cup gun from harbor freight or your equivalent and if you really want to make it tough and durable add a urethane hardener or acrylic enamel hardener at a 4:1:1 ratio and your thinner of choice paint thinner or mineral spirits are the same dry time then naptha then lacquer thinner then acetone all will work but you will get different dry times
