My dad had a Chevy LUV for years. He was a shipyard worker here in WA for 35 years so he needed something he could get in dirty after work. It was probably the most reliable truck he had. So many memories in that thing. Good to see you guys get one!

Remember the flat nasty was for his pops. It was his dad's work truck he sold when times got hard. Bruce found it and brought it back for his dad. Then proceeded to customize it into what we know it as today. Let's hope this luv shares the same sentimentalness as the flatty.

Truck looks good. Please restore that truck and keep it stock. I daily a stock 75, and love it to death. I love seeing these trucks stock. Everyone i see in person always has a v8. Also that truck is a 1980. Going off the side marker lights on the front fender 1980 only (I feel i should clairify. All Luvs sold in the US had side marker lights on the front fender, but 1980 had their own side marker light trim.). With the single headlights, no wing windows and 3 tiedowns on the bed.

Technically they are core plugs, that’s where they drain the Dann from the casting they’re not made to pop out if the block actually freezes. I have seen blocks broken and the core plug never moved. Cool little truck my dad had a couple of them.
@79tazman
@79tazman 4 года назад
If a block is full of water one will usually come out but your right they are not actually frost plugs but everyone calls them that and sometimes they do pop out I've seen some come out when froze and seen them stay in when froze and crack the block

My dad had a luv truck. He literally drove the fenders off from it. It was a very dependable truck and rugged for a throw away truck. When he finally sent it to the scrap yard the motor was still running strong.

I owned a beat up old Isuzu years ago that looked a lot like the Luv. Hated that thing, but times were tough at the time and it was transportation. I'm old enough to remember the Luv in 1975 when they were new on the road. Oil embargo had made everything small desirable. Wouldn't want one but glad you are happy with the project.

A god tip when using like super clean is to begin from the bottom up with the pressure washer to let the super clean work as long as possible and you dont wash away the soap before you hit it with the high pressure 😉👍 Take care and be careful in these pandemic times. Waiting to see more videos of the COE you have been working on, nice 👍 From Artic Norway 😁

@danbasta3677
@danbasta3677 3 года назад
Gotta make her road worthy first, number one, and check out every conceivable "THING" that may go wrong with it. Murphy's Law, everything that can go wrong,WILL go wrong. I would check the fuel pump, replace it, pull the timing chain/belt, replace it, and replace the water pump, first flushing out everything before putting new anti freeze mixed with water in it. You put the anti freeze in there first, no, put only water in there, then when you go to replace the timing belt/chain, and the wather pump, THEN the antifreeze goes in mixed with water. And while there, change the thermostat as well as flush out the lines to the heater core, making sure the heater core is in good shape along with the blower fan unit, making sure that it to is working properly. After all that, and hopefully the bed was pulled off the truck to replace the fuel pump, that is, if it's in the gas tank, rein a new fuel line from the tank to the engine, as these trucks have their gas filters mounted on the right side of the frame. My brother in law had one of these, it was a four wheel drive truck, and it quite running because of a clogged fuel filter, and it was mounted on the right side frame area. Once all these many thing have been done, wouldn't hurt to paint the chassis and floorboards along with the frame with black rust olem paint then your set. Paint the underside of your bed, with black paint, put it back on the truck, however, don't bolt it down. Sand the front side of the bed down, back side of the cab, and prime it, resend it, and go get a nice paint color of your choosing and get ready to sand the whole truck down, prime it, sand the primer, tack rag the truck, and your ready to micpx the paint with reducer and hardener and spray a good light coating on the outside of the truck, let dry, mix up more paint, reduce and hardener, and spray a second coat of paint on her. Once dry, mix more paint, reduce and hardener for yet a third round of paint. As each coat of paint is applied, it gets more and more shinier than the last, and once your satisfied as to the results, your ready to bolt the bed down, and take her for a nice long spin on the highway. Now you know you have a good, reliable truck to drive that will give you yet many years of service. Hopefully, you didn't paint the inside of the bed, later on, you can scratch it down, and paint on two, maybe three coats of bedliner coating, to protect the bed, should you want to haul something in the future. With a little hard work and strict maintenance upkeep, under her, outside of her, engine oil, antifreeze, filters changed, rear end oil changed, transmission fluids changed, brake fluid and master cylinder oil changed, truck will last forever for you, along with periodic tune up's such as plugs, plug gap, distributor cap, rotor, condenser and points, if it has them, she'll run forever and ever, aman.

@@1971hodge Well you have to have money to keep up on RU-vid. You have to be able to purchase project after project to keep the views up and make more money. Heaven forbid you just try to showcase a classic car straight up. Don't expect views that way. After watching again I don't think this truck set for as long as he is trying to convince us. That LSxperts decal is modern, and I thought maybe he was affiliated with those folks and it was product placement, but it seems it was put there by the previous owner. It's been removed as soon as the truck was washed.

We made it to town real fast and the truck got very hot and smoked like it was on fire LOL. I asked him why he put water in the tank and he told me it was supper gas. Come to find out it was shine that that little truck ran on. I dont think that truck ever ran that good again after that. The next time we went over he had a ford ranger and the luv was in the barn.

75 had 4 headlights. This looks like a 78 to an 80. The doors look to be either aftermarket or very late 1979 to 80 because the 4 bolts are not there under the mirror. That's not to say the front clip and doors were not replaced with 80 parts. My 1st truck was a 77 3/4 ton LUV. I also had a 73, 75, 78, 80, and 4 79s. All but the 77 was stolen and crushed. The 77 I sold years ago. Wish I still had them all. Plus the 82 diesel LUV 4x4 I almost bought in 87.

I had a 79 Chevy Luv pickup it was called the Mikado on the side of the bed that's a Japanese emperor and it was white with pearl flames.. but man I had it hot rod it out a dropped in the front end with big meats in the back cookie cutters on the front tires 205 70 14inch western bullet rims dropped all the way in front hot rod big enough tires underneath the wheel well P 255 60 15 inch in the back an Offenhauser manifold with a Weber carb and a hooker competition header.. thats about it everybody else put flairs all the way around there mini trucks.. I wanted the hot rod look..with the front raked down back wheels tucked in the tubs in the bed. PS I bought it brand new in 79..Went from a 3/4 ton GMC four-wheel drive to that little luv truck man you talk about a big difference. Better gas mileage big-time. I wanted to put a 327 small block but that never happened 😕 O well..

Someones put that pump on and its trying to pull through the pump in the tank. There was two systems, one with mechanical pump, the other had electric that will pump when you crank starter and only when/if alternator is charging. The two different sytems had a different banjo on the inlet to the carb, single barb for mechanical pump, its return was off the pump, a twin line banjo for electric pump, return to tanks is at the needle and seat.

If its full strength coolant, you need to mix it 50;50 with water!

Mate of mine had one of these in the 80’s in Perth Australia. It had a 400 Chevy in it. The radiator was in the tray. It was a scary ride
