I strongly agree with this take. In Rhoynar during the long night, they are said to have remembered a long forgotten song. I think the song is a metaphor for peace. They’ve been singing of war for so long, nobody really remembers what peace is like. It’s a song they have to relearn.

Damn that is a super cool interpretation and I think that you might be right about that! Was that brought up in the world book or was that a tidbit from the main story that I forgot?? Also, love the screen name, by the way!

I have a reasonable mic but the setup is not particularly great where i'm at so I have to do a lot to seal it from picking up outside sound which deteriorates the sound quality in its own way... Ideally, as the channel grows, I'll be able to get the resources to acquire a proper cored mic and get a sounded padded area. *edit, I noticed there was like a weird hissing on this video when i played it on my phone that didnt come up on the pc... gonna look into that

I never thought genociding Others was really on the table. Marrying an Other, maybe a wight Daenerys. Now I'm starting to buy into MichaelTalksAboutStuff's "Wall's Full of Wights" theory and thinking the Wall needs to be brought down with apocalyptic consequences for all, with the hope that someday a natural Spring will come again.

I also don't think it's on the table particularly because historically it didn't happen. I also just don't think it's the direction the author would go.

"...old, well past 30..." Le sigh...Oh Jon. You know nothing. I like the angle of how Jon handles conflict. I hadn't thought of his ending that way. If his "blood" has anything to do with it, I bet he does in fact end up North as part of the "price" to be paid in the deal he negotiates.

Might I suggest a video on the following topics: The show kind of made the Starks more rustic than they where in the books. House Stark in the novels where not as wealthy as the Lannister's but they where a lot wealthier than the show. First lets look at what they wear in the books which is nothing like there costumes in the show. Side note Lord Rickard owned Steel armour and gold spurs. When Arya is packing to go to Kings Landing she files where chest with silk and Sansa is fond of blue silk. In Kings Landing Eddard looked nothing like what he did in the show, he always wore what he called his council silk. Ned also commissions a new uniform for his guards. Long cloaks of heavy grey wool decorated with white satin borders. Their cloaks are pinned with hands of beaten silver representing there Lords office as hand of the King. When he was on the Iron Throne Ned wore a white double embosomed with a grey dire wolf. In Winterfell at the feast welcoming the King and Royal Family they all dressed grandly, including Benjen Stark. There are high born brothers in the Nights Witch from the north and south and I have never seen one dressed as well as Benjen at that feast, not even Lord Commander Mormont himself. He wears rich black velvet high black leather boots. His wide belt has a silver buckle and very heavy silver chain. When Bran is attacked by Wildlings he is attacked for what he is wearing and he is second legitimate son and he is wearing a wolfs head broch of silver and jet. Jet is a gemstone and this is not a formal event this is just outriding in the woods. Jon wears fine blacks and mole skin gloves which would not be cheap. At Winterfell harvest feast Bran is dressed quote, as befits a Prince and Robb wears a bronze crown and Catelyn describes her sons royal Kingly attire as quote magnificent. Also Theon Greyjoy dressed very well when he was living with Stark in silk and Gold and Balon fears the Starks have made him soft. I doubt Greyjoy money was funding Theon's extravagant lifestyle. When he takes Winterfell he crowns himself Prince of Winterfell and orders and orders a new crown forged with black diamonds and chunks of gold. Where did he get the gold and diamonds if not from Winterfell's plundered treasury. And before Winterfell Bran and Luwin gave the Manderley's gold and build a royal fleet and mint coins. At the Winterfell harvest feast Now lets look at Winterfell it is much bigger and much grander than in the show this is a Castle built of granite which is an opulent martial. Winterfell is a huge castle complex spanning several acres and encircled by two massive granite walls. Remember the Castle is built over natural hot springs and as the wiki explains. The water is piped through walls and chambers to heat them, making Winterfell more comfortable than other castles during the harsh northern winters. Also from the wiki Inside the walls, the complex is composed of dozens of courtyards and small open spaces. Weapons training and practice take place in those yards. The inner ward is a second, much older open space in the castle where archery practice takes place. It is located next to the broken tower. Inside Winterfell stands the inner castle, which contains the Great Keep and the Great Hall. Winterfell's towers and halls have diamond-shaped window panes.[6] Inner Castle The Great Keep is the innermost castle and stronghold of the castle complex. It was built over natural hot springs to keep it warm.[5] The Great Keep contains bedchambers for House Stark[5] as well as the solar of Lord Eddard Stark.[7] The building is connected to the armory by a covered bridge.[8] From a window on the covered bridge, one can see the entire yard.[9] Beneath the Great Keep are cellars with narrow windows.[10] The Great Hall is used for receiving guests and the place where the household dines together, including the Lord of Winterfell. It is made of grey stone[11] and has wide doors made of oak and iron,[12] which opens to the castle yard, and a rear exit leads to a dimly-lit gallery.[12] Inside it can hold eight long rows of trestle tables, four to each side of the central aisle,[12] and the hall can seat five hundred people.[13] There is a raised platform for noble guests, and the walls are covered with banners.[11] The hall contains the high seat of the old Kings in the North. The seat's cold stone has been polished by the many lords who have sat upon it, and its massive arms are decorated with the carved heads of snarling direwolves.[14][15] The small sept was built for Lady Catelyn Tully, a southron, by her husband, Lord Eddard.[16] Courtyard and Other Buildings The First Keep, a squat and round drum tower, is the oldest surviving part of the castle but is no longer in use. Around it lies a lichyard where the Kings of Winter would bury their loyal servants. The keep has gargoyles atop it.[17][6] Maester Kennet determined it was built after the Andals arrived.[18] The broken tower, also known as the Burned Tower, was once the tallest watchtower in Winterfell. Over 140 years ago a lightning strike set it afire and the top third collapsed inward, but no one rebuilt it.[19][20] It stands behind the old inner ward. Crows nest atop the broken tower.[19] The ancient godswood of Winterfell has stood untouched for ten thousand years, with three acres of old packed earth and close-together trees creating a dense canopy, which the castle was built around. At the center of the grove stands an ancient weirwood with a face carved into it, standing over a pool of black water.[16] Across the godswood from the heart tree, beneath the windows of the Guest House, an underground hot spring feeds three small pools, with a moss-covered wall looming above them. The godswood is enclosed by walls, and is accessed by a main iron gate, or smaller wooden ones. The Glass Gardens[21] is a greenhouse heated by the hot springs, which turn it into a place of moist warmth.[5] It is used to grow fruits, vegetables, and flowers.[9][22] The garden has green and yellow glass panes[10] locked in frames.[8] The crypt of Winterfell, located near the First Keep, is where members of House Stark are buried. The underground crypts are long and narrow, with pillars moving two by two along its length. Between pillars stand the sepulchers of the Starks of Winterfell, the likenesses of the dead seated on thrones, with iron swords set before them to keep the restless spirits from wandering, and snarling direwolves at their feet. The crypts are deep under the earth, cavernous and bigger than the complex above ground. They are accessed by a twisting stone stair and a huge ironwood door that lies at a slant to the floor. The stair continues below to older levels where the most ancient Kings in the North are entombed.[23][17][10] The Bell Tower is connected to the rookery by a bridge. The bridge is covered and runs from the fourth floor of the tower to the second floor of the rookery.[6][8] The maester's turret is below the rookery.[24] The Library Tower houses the library at Winterfell. A stonework staircase winds about its exterior.[8] The Guards Hall is in line with the Bell Tower, and further back, the First Keep.[6] Winterfell has undercrofts and cellars.[25] The castle also has dungeons,[25] including tower cells.[26] Walls Winterfell is a huge castle complex spanning several acres, defended by two massive walls of grey granite with a wide moat between them.[4] The outer wall is eighty feet high, while the inner is one hundred feet high.[4] There are guard turrets on the outer wall and more than thirty watch turrets on the crenelated inner walls. The great main gates[7] have a gatehouse made of two huge crenelated bulwarks which flank the arched gate[8] and a drawbridge that opens into the market square of the winter town.[27][28] There is a narrow tunnel inside of the inner wall stretching halfway around the castle, allowing travel from the south gate all the way to the north gate without interruption.[19] The Hunter's Gate is close to the kennels and the kitchens. It opens directly onto open fields and the wolfswood, so people can come and go without having to cross through the winter town. It is favored by hunting parties.[4] The East Gate[10] or east gate[29] leads to the kingsroad.[10] The Kingsroad Gate[7] may be another name for the same gate. The Battlements Gate is a small arched postern in the inner wall. It crosses the moat between the walls but does not have a passageway through the outer wall.[7]# When Jon Snow becomes Lord Commander of the Nights Watch he considers building a glass building but thinks it will be costly and for such fine glass he would need to look Myr and by the freedom of a few glass makers. We know Sansa loves lemon cakes and lemon trees do not grow naturally in the north importing lemon seeds to Winterfell from the reach or Doren would not be cheap. My guess would be the seeds came form Doren as one need only sail up the narrow sea than the up the White Knife. Finally Maester Luwin has his own turret and mentions having servents of his own. The Starks top servants have servants Not as wealthy as the Lannister but it clear Ned and Robb after him where unlike in the show 2 of the wealthiest man in the world.

How do you see death and zombification changing Jon? For Beric, he dies trying to uphold the king's justice, and even as the world moves on, he doggedly, stubbornly refuses to abandon his mission. Cat dies after she watches the Lannister-Frey-Bolton alliance treacherously tears apart everything she loves, and she slays Aegon Frey in vengeance; Stoneheart hunts down Freys and Jaime, and aims to hang them all out of vengeance. The trend doesn't work for Gregor and Drogo... but Jon, he dies trying to de-escalate the situation with Wun-Wun, looking for a horn so he can take command and bring order to the situation. Could that have an influence on Jon's post-zombification personality? Will zombie-Jon be very successful with his peace mission? Cuz zombie-Beric only won small victories in the long run, and his gang slowly spiraled down into Stoneheart-y vengeance.

I think maybe I said this in a previous comment.So sorry if i'm repeating myself but I feel like we don't have solid evidence to confirm that the death and transfer into ghost is going to change jon all that much especially if he doesn't end up staying in ghost that long. And like I could probably equally make the point that like.Why wouldn't this experience give Jon greater clarity and purpose in his path towards making peace? Like he'd come back from the dead and then forgive... That's powerful men would follow that. Leadership isn't just about brutality, it brutality.It's often times about strength of character and a willingness to work with situations. What is the criticism made about stannis? It's that he's iron he has no flex , he can't bend And therefore he's not as powerful as a weapon as a man of steel in the metaphorical sense of course. The point being that a great leader cannot be uncompromising.And sometimes a willingness to bend and I think in the story sense a willingness to forgive and a willingne this to make peace or willingness to compromise, given the fact that a situation might be bad but will get way worse.That turns into a more terrible war is actually something that jon could end up embodying and taking away from a near death experience , but also something that would play into what leadership is supposed to be portrayed as within the series. Hopefully, that answer makes some sense.It is a very difficult question.I will admit and we have no idea what's going to happen to him.I mean, technically.We don't even know if he's gone into ghost although I do buy into that theory

I agree Jon will be the peacemaker, but I think he has some fury to unleash before he does. I think Jon exists to learn from his father figures, from their failures. I think his death or attempted assassination will be the catalyst. Jon will earn to be a wolf as he has already learned to be a leader. He will be ruthless and where Ned was too honorable. He will be flexible where Stannis could not bend. He will not turn a blind eye to evil men the way Mormont did. Or lead them. (Both Craster and the evil men in the watch were Mormont’s demise)
@randominternetguyoffical
@randominternetguyoffical 2 месяца назад
I definitely agree that jon has some upcoming conflict and I think that not all of it Is going to be able to be solved with words. That said , I definitely tend to agree that he's not going to be like stanis. He's going to be able to make compromise and going to be able to bend. Which is going to be I think what In the end defines his character.

Thoughts on Alt Shift X's Jon deep dive TWoW/ADoS prediction that Jon and Dany would fly their dragons to the far north and fix a corrupted weirwood by having Jon kiil Dany, or himself or his dragon. Its better than having Jon win a big battle and slay the Night King or whatev, but still, it relies on the premises: 1. What's wrong with the world is that a fundamentally good system was corrupted; 2. A blood sacrifice can fix problems (by "fix", I don't mean "magically empower" but rather "resolve fundamental injustice in the world"); 3. Jon - or any *one* person - can single-handedly fix the world. I don't think any of these premises is true?

@@randominternetguyoffical I don’t think we have enough info. But the usefulness of just having millions of dumb laborers who never eat or get tired is pretty impressive enough to accomplish any task that they might want to achieve. We don’t really have a solid reason for them to come south otherwise. But, it might be that they know the upcoming winter will kill like 30-70% of the population and are just being opportunistic. We have no reason to believe the white walkers seek any kind of total genocide of humanity either they seem to get along fine with Craster and even aren’t totally hostile. Even in old nans stories the white walkers are still secondary to the cold itself in how scary they are. They just seem to be people we see plenty of humans do the same things the white walkers do in the intro to agot. Just kill a bunch of dudes and jump one guy and laugh at him while you kill him. Sounds like bog standard sociopaths being sociopaths.

One i think part of the message that peace is good but not easy , she manages to forge a peace and i think part of the arch is saying how making peace is only half and keeping peace requires effort,(Dany's arc will most likely be the mistake of giving up the search for peace.) Secondly a lot of the "good" characters who meet bad ends often end up there because they refuse peace as an example Robb while a lot of the fandom romanticises his cause as a good one most good and intelligent characters (and immoral ones) see the cause as stupid, dumb and mostly based on vanity and pride, Cat speaks out against immediately and constantly and is ignored ,Tyrion thinks the northern peace offer is a start and thinks this is just the start of negotiations which will result in compromise and even Bolton thinks Robb should probably bend the Knee these guys are punished for not making peace. Thirdly the story isn't over yet those who "live by the sword" probably wont end well Tywin was murdered , humiliatingly, by one of his victims his son, we have Frey pie's of course and probably a lot more to come , Joffrey dies at his own wedding and i don't think it will end well for the Bolton's or Cersei and perhaps part of the message is sometimes the worthwhile price of peace is no vengeance and the evil guys sometimes get away. just my thoughts although this is a long one.

I like the thoughts and I think that it's the kind of stuff that George does want us to think about and grapple with. Like that's why I do agree that some villains may get away. I think the idea that peace at some imperfect cost is better than no peace is likely something that george would agree with. Though I don't know I cannot speak for him at the end of the day because i'm not him. So I guess we're all gonna have to wait and see lol

what if combining different forms of magic in some special ritual is the key to permanently defeating the others and getting rid of them for good? maybe the part of the azor ahai prophecy where he is supposed to kill nissa nissa, actually means/requires jon to sacrifice daenaerys in some ritual using both the magic of the red god (melisandre's magic) and the magic of the old gods and that maybe also requires the help of the children of the forest and also maybe the flaming sword he's actually supposed to plunge into nissa nissa's heart is a knife made of dragon glass (into daenaerys' chest during a ritual).

I feel like the fact that there was a lot of pacts and peace made in the past is an indicator that we're going to have to travel that direction. And like, for example, so far we kind of get the idea that sacrifice.May be isn't a super great thing and I think that that is supposed to get driven home a little bit more like i'm pretty sure it got confirmed that stannis will burn his daughter. So I think that we're gonna start drifting into territory, where the sacrifice and the prophecy is definitely shown to be a definitive negative.

C'mon, RIG! We all know how Dream will end! It will end with Un-Jon leading a charge for the gates of the Lands of Always Winter, riding 2 dragons at the same time & screaming "FOR DADDY RHAEGAR, WHO IS TOTALLY MANCE RAYDER!". Then, the Wight of Ice and Fire will sit the Iron Throne, even if humanity has just fought a war against the army of the dead. Then, Undead Jon Stargaryen will marry his aunt and have babies, because the Maesters & the Children of the Forest will magically make an undead be able to produce gametes. In the end, Bran will be named his successor because he has learned all the best stories from the Weirwood Net. We just know that, no matter how much of a hippie George is, nor how much Bran's plot reminds of "And seven times never kill man!", ASOIAF will end just like any other fantasy novel. ASOIAF could very well end with a Round of RoShamBo....
@BeteBlanc
@BeteBlanc 2 месяца назад
First, I was kinda surprised you didn't explicitly point it out. The titles translate to the same thing. Rag equals song, and Ice and Fire equals armageddon. The song of ice and fire is the Armageddon Rag. It would not be without merit to wonder if ASOIAF is his redemption of that story in a weird way. I understand where you are with most of it, but I think you're backing the wrong character. I'm openminded and I'll keep listening if you have more in the vein. However, I think GRRM's pointed out on many occasions that Jon and Dany's stories are studies in different angles of someone young and idealistic being thrust into charismatic power positions. I expect them to be different shades of untimely not being successful. I sort of understand why, but I still think it's weird how people so quickly latch onto Jon as a central hero figure. It's odd, but I guess I get it. Fundamentally Jon has never challenged one of his most significant personal issues. It's a major part of his personality. Maybe he will, I'm open to the argument. You see it best in two places. One is when he has his dream of fighting alone, the other where he can't seem to think of his own guard as anything but ducklings. Jon is a solo act in his own mind. You could argue that as a virtue of not putting anyone else in danger, or a sin of vanity. I don't know. I'm not willing to say your wrong. Only that I don't share your optimism that Jon can resolve his worse traits. I think you're betting on the wrong horse because you want it to be Jon.
@randominternetguyoffical
@randominternetguyoffical 2 месяца назад
I probably could have brought that up.I thought most people knew that a rag was a song so I didn't really think that that was like something.I needed to point out, but you're right.It is an important crossover. I wouldn't really say that i'm betting on Jon. To be honest i'm not a huge Jon fan, Like as compared to other characters.I like the lad but he's definitely not my top three lol. ( Like I'm that weirdo that will take a Cat chapter over a Jon chapter any day) However Jon clearly is a pivotal part of the story, And if somebody is going to make peace in the story there's not that many people who could fill that role. And I think that overcoming the negative traits that you point out in jon would actually be a big part of him reaching that portion of his story. Like some things gotta happen with him he can't just go quietly into that long night. And I don't think he's gonna have like a quintessential happy ending where he becomes like the king or anything. So I think our boy is headed for the not particularly rewarding but essential to the functioning of the story role of the peacemaker. Thanks for the response! It has been really cool to hear thoughts about this topic!

@@randominternetguyofficalMost people I say it too have said it's cool but probably irrelevant. Sorry if I seemed rude. I know I sound like someone who's just reaching for something original. I'm not trying to change your mind, but just for a bit, consider Jon as an opposite but equal part in the story to Dany. Dany is fire, GRRM's put a face and a personality to this piece of the story. Does it make sense for this author to not present the ice side of this story with a compelling and comparable level of sympathy? Who is best placed as a character to be drawn into becoming that face? In fact I could even see the benefit of Jon having to in order to deal with the issue you present. I just wish I had the skill to explain this better. If you line up Dany's story with Jon's they're mirror images. How do I put this... if Jon is a key figure in the peace is he best placed as a character if he fundamentally has a foot in both camps when one has no PoV face or if he's part of one side and is compromising on its behalf? Hypothetically, if Jon made a deal with the Others (so he could return and reclaim his role as LC) rather than defeating a faceless horde, how would you imagine that would play out to peaceful resolution? I get it, everyone thinks Jon will lead everyone against them. I'm not asking you to believe me, just asking how would you see it working if it did happen? Could he gain peace by understanding and representing the Others at the table? Jon has joined and learned to understand the Wildlings and try to bridge peace with them, is it silly to think this was foreshadowing for Jon doing something similar with the Others?

@BeteBlanc Don't worry.I don't think it's rude at all! I actually do really like your idea.Or at least the concept that you're kind of talking about when it comes to John maybe joining the others or becoming part of their ranks as like Is a necessary prerequisite to be able to represent their side in peace talks. I think you were very correct That that would be a massive cross over to his time with the wildlings Honestly that's an interpretation of undead jon that I like a lot more than the ones where he becomes callous and loses his humanity because of his time being dead. I definitely do think he'll still be a peacemaker, but I think you have a lot of cool points.And so I can only imagine that.George is gonna put something pretty interesting out for us when he finally gets around to finishing it lol

see i believe everything you're saying and this is a great vid... but part of me fears any kind of peace talk actually working will feel so disconnected from the story so far, where every single person trying to do the right thing has suffered and been punished for it. Jon gets stabbed. ned dies and instigates a nightmare for everyone he loves for trying to do the right thing and prevent conflict. Danny's attempts to make peace have all gone nowhere but her violence worked just fine. and yeah people like the Freys, the Boltons, Cersei and Tywin live by the sword, or by violence to achive their goals and are CLEARLY going to come to no good or lasting end because of it. but that's just more conflict and battle carrying on we're a LOT of books in for the moral of the story to have never been brought up much is my point

I agree its hard to see the hope, but I think that might be even more reason that someone is gonna have to try to make peace, like unless GRRM has gone full "war is the defining factor of existence" on us, but idk, some how I don't think so.

I think you forget three things.

@@randominternetguyofficalI saw this vid that critiqued GRR Martin's writing and, essentially, argues that the story has become a mess narritively and morally and is unfinishable (which is why its taking so long) I agree, I think we fanboy too much on Martin, esp since the show kinda did him dirty, where we ignore the issues in his own work ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Aa5nlV2Zj2U.htmlsi=D31w1GZc7GBq1wCF

@zeroisnine I'll take a look at it when I get a chance! I tend to think the story is more or less consistent and could be ended with a very similar ending to some other martin works but I do wonder if hes written himself into some serious issues regardless. I also kind of wonder, if maybe he is just doing a lot more rewriting than we think and he is having a hard time being satisfied with what he has written, which might mean that he might have the work finished but might be redoing such large portions of it, It's almost like he's redoing the whole thing.

@@randominternetguyoffical I'm not familiar with his other works, but I feel like the issue outside from providing fan-service, I don't know if a satisfactory ending can happen. Yes, its consistent, but consistently what? I think the other ASOFAI books work, because they can be a piece of history, which naturally does not end, nor innately requires a conclusion But for his magnum opus, I think its difficult to have an ending that doesn't go against the core themes of the story, but I think it would have to in order to be anything other than inconclusive or unsatisfying

One issue I have with Jon forging peace... assuming that the end of Jon's final chapter isn't a fakeout, and assuming that he gets zombified... can a zombie really forge peace? Drogo is an empty shell. The Mountain seems to be incapable of speech. Beric loses more and more memories each time he resurrects. The Others' wights don't really have agency on their own. Stoneheart has lost all of Catelyn's nuance and compassion; its like she's a flattened imitation of Cat perpetually reliving the last 5 minutes of her life. To forge peace, you gotta have empathy, nuance, leadership - I just don't see zombie-Jon retaining those first 2 traits, and I don't think he'd have a great grip on the third unless he was a religious figure... and I have to doubt that GRRM is going for "Great news! The day is saved because some dudes blindly followed their god-anointed zombie Chosen One and went along with his crazy peace plan!"
@randominternetguyoffical
@randominternetguyoffical 2 месяца назад
So I don't know why we shouldn't apparently expect john to lose all his empathy like clearly barrick didn't. But like even so just because we've seen some bad examples of people being resurrected doesn't mean that jon will get resurrected that way. His spirit being in ghost may also insulate him a little bit from the negative effects. And overall I just don't see how weird zombie jon would contribute to the end of the story in any way that would be helpful in the overall message. Like the story's either gonna end with a big battle like Lord of the Rings where the right guys win.Because there's a right side and you gotta kill the evil. Or it's not and it's gonna end like a bunch of other previous works that george wrote with people having to make some kind of agreement and getting together to stop the killing eventually.

@@randominternetguyoffical Beric is probably the best-case scenario zombie, and even he is lost, empty. What would it do to Jon if he couldn't remember the color of Ygritte's hair, or what Winterfell looked like? If all the life experiences that taught him compassion faded from his memory? As for Ghost... residing in the direwolf would make Jon more wolfish, probably less conducive to forging peace?

@Mj_Jetson I also wonder why people think that it would make John more wolfish.Like we do hear that spending time in animals makes you more like an animal but I don't remember that being a very instantaneous process.I recalled it being a bit more of like a slow acclamation? Maybe i'm wrong on that one. I would like to do a series reread where I kind of focus on the bran story and some of the warg and green dream stuff. Maybe it would change my mind to go over it.

The previous peace with the Others involved persistent child sacrifice, what could the humans offer to them that they'd accept peace without systemic child sacrifice? It feels like you avoided talking about that for the whole video. The old peace with the Others deteriorated because the people forgot or thought it was just some fairy tale and even if they did remember, they weren't going to sacrifice their children (except maybe for Tywin since that'd be a good way to rid himself of Tyrion). If Jon opens up peace talks and offers the Others a supply of innocent babies forever, then that is an awful ending and an awful peace, that is a peace worse than any war. GRRM is not a complete pacifist. He said he'd fight in WW2, the biggest conflict in history. The Others literally reproduce via child sacrifice, what is more evil than that? GRRM said himself that the Others are like the Sidhe made of ice. The Sidhe are creatures from Irish mythology who were defeated and banished to the Otherworld, that's likely the actual source of the name. GRRM only rejects parts of Tolkien, he still obviously really likes LotR. Things like the dwindling of magic from the world as creatures like the Children and Others step away forever are almost certainly going to occur in some form by the end of the story, just like the dwindling of magic and the elves leaving Middle Earth in LotR. It's stated that the Children and giants will soon be gone from the world, why would the Others persist in the world of man that exists when all other magic ceases to exist?
@randominternetguyoffical
@randominternetguyoffical 2 месяца назад
I don't know if world war II is the best comparison.. Like the nazis were incredibly evil probably more evil than the others.. they certainly were responsible for more death.. But you'll also notice that the end of world war two didn't end with the genocide of every single person in Germany. And it didn't end even with the execution of every single person who had ever been affiliated with the nazis. So well, I think George is right to say he'd fight in World War 2 because you should fight in world war two I don't think that that conclusion should then lead us to george supporting total annihilation of any side. Like defeating somebody and making sure that there is a reasonable peace this time around is very different than annihilating their entire species or annihilating a portion of humanity if the others are actually human. Which they very well could be.
