I want to see them debate whether or not Iron Man could be considered the modern inverse of Wizard of Oz, with Fight Club being a modern inverse of Citizen Kane. So as opposed to the last 100 years of most movies trying to be Wizard of Oz or Citizen Kane, I think we are 15 years into every movie trying to be Iron Man or Fight Club. The roundtable has to have Gina, Maude and Kim with Hector, Coy and Eric and Jay. Names are drawn out of a hat to decide the teams and the position that team is taking. Either two 3 person teams, or 3 two people teams with agree, disagree and wrong choice of film is the three teams.
Coy will just talk over them talking at 88mph. it will just be an echo chamber of Coy. I think we're better off with just Hector and Erik, and 1 more person that isn't Coy.
I think Hector is my favorite. His face when they said the thing about hawkeye and spiderman not being in the same shot at the Christmas tree 🤣. exactly how I felt.
Yeah I'm with Hector. The "eternals is in a different universe" theory is just wishful thinking when really some of this stuff has been messy in terms of continuity. I still wish the best for the MCU though
The Marvel cinematic universe. The movies need to be allowed to do their own thing. If they make connections to other movies fine, but they can't be required to make connections to things that happen in TV shows.
I’m on Hectors side. Making other shows and movies separate universes out of know where without establishing why would just result in confusion especially when some of the changes are so insignificant.
Out of no where when the theme had been multiverses. It would be a half baked multi verse if its just in some projects. Plus you have deadpool and thr xmen on the horizon
11:37 The last scene of WV is Wanda ignoring Agatha, trapping her mentally, and reading the most evil spellbook ever written then MoM opens with her deep in the delusion, still chasing her kids, and corrupted. It only doesn't make sense to people who willfully ignore the true ending of WandaVision instead of accepting that she was still making mistakes and can still make more. That's the beauty of Wanda's story: error through grief, love persisting and warping. You don't play all the cards at once: you don't do a true House of M global rewrite spell withou the mutants and Magneto, you don't explore Cthon, you just let Raimi give a taste of what's to come so later there can be an Avengers: House of M or however they choose to really dig in with Wiccan fully established and able to be on Wanda's level to help her It connects if y'all let it but y'all let the idea of perfection get in the way of the good in front of you
I agree with Jay in saying that Marvel has to have 2 sides to the studios, the TV side and the Movie side which they have done already ages ago which I give them props for. If it were me, I would have the following: MCU Movies - Cosmics, Magical, Some Supernatural, Horror and Science. Powerful heroes. MCU TV - Street Level heroes and shows. Have a few shows that are character-driven/character analysis series, like Loki. And have some supernatural/horror, Sci-Fi, and mystery shows as well. Have a one-off special event film - Holiday-themed: Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day & Thanksgiving once or twice a year every 2 to 3 years.
I think that was one of the biggest parts of it. Usually the GA feels like they know the actors from press tours, that's a big factor for the normies. People liked Brie being so bold and outspoken as much as they hated it. Vellani literally is a powerhouse of a star and could have gotten butts in seats. None of us got to see Tenoyah interact with them off camera to see how she fits in. 🤷🏾♂️
Also the active hate campaign against Marvel/Disney. I mean they're trying to shove that South Park pander crap down my throat I can't go on any website without them promoting that one episode.
Incorrect, marvel has been releasing sub par content for the last two years. Putting out a movie in which two of the main characters are from Disney plus and a villain no one’s cares about. There simply wasn’t enough general interest in this movie.
Why are people acting like they can’t do press now that it’s in theaters . So many people say they didn’t even know the film was coming out . These online commentators man . They are doing more harm than good by prematurely spreading doom and gloom . That stuff influences standard issue folks . Smh . This movie deserves more
I think there are many issues at play here. 1) Endgame broke everyone’s brains. People expected massive crossovers for every project since but the reality is that phase four was like a soft resetting of life after the blip showing many different characters and themes. 2) The pandemic happened and has affected every project since. Productions in progress had to stop. They changed the release order of both movies and TV shows. You had multiple projects going at the same time after lockdowns were lifted that all depended on the other one. WandaVision has no solid ending even before the pandemic started so they had to start back up while MoM was being written and MoM also had to change daily because of NWH which was also filming at the same time just as one example. Seems like people keep forgetting real world implications on productions. 3) Not saying these gentlemen are part of the problem but the extra vocal critics of Marvel have also been louder than ever about every decision Marvel makes. Phases 1-3 were mostly Earth bound stories that people could wrap their heads around. Phase 4-5 have had some Earth bound stories but also stories about the multiverse, time travel, the cosmos and magic. Those are more niche themes that not everyone likes or can easily wrap their heads around. Now add in the usual misogyny and racism and it comes across as everyone hates every project. Marvel fans and critics are becoming like Star Wars fans and critics and that’s not a good thing. I know everyone wants to see the MCU succeed and make great films and shows but also maybe if people start to take things a shade less seriously and understand this is just entertainment considering all the real world horribleness that’s going on, perhaps people can enjoy it for what it is and have Marvel be an escape from all the bad in the world for a few hours each year. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
I am not a comics reader. Personally I LOVED that Kamala and Monica were introduced in a series before The Marvels. I made me care about these characters. Otherwise I would have only really known Carol and not really would have cared about the other two.
Okay, seriously, the chemistry on this panel is off the charts and I loved the overload of information while trying SO HARD to be objective. Cracking pod! 🙏
Too true, luckily my phone plan comes with benefits of £3 weekend tickets for two separate cinemas, though that means I have to wait till the weekend, unless I want to cough up at least £12, if I want IMAX, over £20 💀
You guys are awesome! I don't always understand (movie fan more than comics fan), but I learn a lot and I love watching you guys argue! So funny. Thank you!
I actually think the moon knight finale while having elements of the marvel formula had a good change with the giant Egyptian god battle in the back while MK was just changing inbetween personsalities fighting arthur, who they did well making a nothing character into something
I want a similar atmosphere to the netflix daredevil, though it doesn't have to be quite as heavy. She-Hulk's daredevil and the Echo trailer is close enough for me.
While I don't like all the weird and sus hate for the recent movies and Kang in Quantumania, him being smaller in the way Doom defeats him in Kang Dynasty is actually genius, you move away from the potentially controversial actor, and pave the way for someone who's far more powerful and who was likely behind the scenes doing stuff, perhaps none of the heroes broke the multiverse, perhaps it was him, Dr Doom!!!!!!!!!!
LOVE this Breakroom podcast. First, I have to apologize that this is four weeks late. I watched this program when it first came out, but a thought just occurred to me. When Hector, Coy, and Jay were arguing (sorry, debating) about whether certain shows and movies are on the 'sacred' timeline, or in other universes. I'd like you to consider this: 1. When I think of the What If stories, I always consider them alternate universes. I've always thought of them as the popular characters, just in a very different universe where their end was quite different from the character we know and love. 2. The end of the Loki series changed all that. At this point, there IS NO Sacred timeline. Loki nuked that when he nuked the time loom, and now all universes are free to grow as they will.
Nope . He manages one universe out of an infinite number . If anything he’s only opened the 616 universe to the other universes Which explains no way home and MOM . Kate H explained that when the timeline is allowed to branch freely the branches create bridges to other universes where the other Kangs reside .
I like the idea of Doom being portrayed as Vader type after taking out Kang, HOWEVER marvel has dropped the ball on that. They should’ve k1lled off Scott lang so that the fear is instilled in the audience. He will always be remembered as “the guy who got beat by ants.” At this point Having doom do that wouldn’t be a big feat for the audience. My proposal? Cold open the avengers film with doctor doom destroying the entire tva and looking for the beyonders power before the universe ends
The recent official MCU timeline book does list the events of Eternals, She-Hulk, Moon Knight, etc as part of the prime universe/timeline, doesn’t it? As attractive as Coy/Jay’s theory is, it’s kinda been officially debunked, right? Also, great lineup and discussion!
I don't think we can say it's debunked until a higher up from Marvel says it. They gave her access for the book but I highly doubt she had complete access
@@antasiaward1036Who’s “her”? Coy/Jay are saying certain shows aren’t part of the primary timeline, yet the book which was specifically an official release from Marvel Studios, forewarded by Kevin Feige (THE higher up), list the events of the shows/movies in question as part of the primarily timeline. Considering the Eternals story, they’re the among first to be listed in the timeline.
@thedefinitionisthis They were referencing a book that was written that outlines Marvel and their plans. According to the book all of the shows and movies take place in the same universe unless it is stated otherwise in the movie or show. The book is titled MCU: The reign of Marvel it's be Joanna Robinson .
29:46 I've also had that theory in the back of my head since the start of phase 4 because it would add so well to the multiversal saga but the differences are sooo minute that it can be seen as just fans cheaply defending Marvel and I love Hector's reaction😂absolutely SHUTS them down...foolish🤣 it is iffy that neither were referenced in each other's projects I will say but exactly my point, when he mentions hawkeye's son's glove its literally that small across the board 😂 and it really doesn't add to the theory when that happened in endgame?😅
There are definitely different universes and the characters that can break the 4th wall may reveal this because only they can see something is not quite right (like She-Hulk, Deadpool, Dr. Strange, Spiderman, and Wanda).
The predictions on Secret Wars with Dr. Doom being introduced would be a lot more believable if we didn't get what we got for Civil War. I really enjoyed the movie but knowing how it was handled in the comics makes me think Secret War will definitely be toned down a lot like they did with Civil War.
Omg who is this beautiful black man Iv never seen on this channel!!! He is ❤ and entertaining!!! Or am I new!???I love they whole dynamic tho ! Lovely panel
no yes we definitely need cohesiveness and good writers to tie everything together because there’s to many stories trying to be told and yes like you guys mention if you haven’t read the comics you’re kind of out of the loop, i feel like i’m constantly having to reassure my friends that no this makes sense but to those who don’t know comic books it’s kind of hard to tie them into the loop😅
21:50 They’re gonna do to Kang, what Thanos did to Thor & Hulk in Infinity War. Everyone probably thought “Thanos isn’t actually a big deal, Hulk & Thor will just beat him” but then Thanos wiped the floor with Thor & Hulk, and we all collectively went “oh shit…” 33:56 You missed that the Time Stone, which protects our reality from the rest of whatever (according to the Ancient One in Infinity War), was destroyed. Universe 616/199999 has lost its protection from the Time Stone, and it’s likely the other stones also serve some function that helps the Universe stay healthy.
I probably won't see Deadpool 3 if I have to watch the first two films and 20 other Fox superhero films to understand it. And I think that's the problem. As long as Marvel insists that people watch all of their properties in order to understand the next film/show, they will continue losing viewers. Loki was fantastic because you didn't need to see any other post-Endgame property to understand it.
We need a debate on this very topic. What shows and movies are in the same universe? Because I do believe we've been seeing different universes with different shows and movies, it's the multiverse
While it is a reintroduction to the Blade character, that movie should be a slam dunk no brainer, perfect casting so far and if it's R-rated then I can see people enjoying it even more! But minus blade 3 and some parts of the other two, both blade and daredevil are coming of the back of great projects
Jay is great to watch; enthusiastic and informed. It bothered me that Coy kept interrupting him with negative thoughts and an elevated voice. Made me anxious just listening! Great perspective overall, though. Thank you!
I don't think that the movie going audience sees kang as powerful at all currently so for that transition to hit kang has to show up a lot more before dynasty.
