The Surface line has felt like a lot of it is waiting on a major refresh for a while. Microsoft tightening up on its non-core businesses does make me worry a bit for it.
They should not only produce an alternative to the Mac Mini, but also to the MacBook Air. I think quite a few people would love to have a laptop that can run for more than a day without recharging, delivers decent performance in everyday applications and can be used on the lap or in bed without problems, because there are no fans to choke.
The problem is that OEMs don't embrace AMD for their Premium Laptops, the 6800U already matches the M2 in everything but Idle Power. The 7800U should completely destroy the M2 in power efficiency while aprouching the raw performance of the M2 Pro (will still be behind behind) even though it will consume less power.
I run Windows 11 on my Duo. There's a couple Android apps I'd like to be able to use. Since wsa isn't that great a way to stream Android apps would be nice
Windows 11 already runs relatively well on Duo even with just basically a one-man development team without any internal resources. With proper Microsoft support, the Duo could run Windows and then have the subsystem running Android all natively (enough with cloud being the "solution" to everythign). There's literally no downside to doing this and you have the flexibility to run it however you like, especially if there's an option to run a mobile shell frontend for the phone (as was done with the Windows on Lumia project). Being able to run a full desktop web browser, full coding suites, full video editors and graphic design suites all natively would be a dream, not to mention when you connect to an external display. Having the mentality of "it's a phone so it'd be awful" is so incredibly short-sighted and backwards in 2023 when we have hardware like the Galaxy Fold and Duo 2 with chips like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. There's like 75% the power of an Apple M1 in the 8 Gen 2. More than enough to start considering our "phones" to be full-fledged computers at this point. Push the boundaries rather than regressing to the lowest common denominator.
I appreciate this channel a lot but I wonder why you're slowing down with the beta update videos. I used this channel to keep track of what windows is doing and what to expect from future stable channel updates, but this is no longer the case. I hope you guys can change that.
@labalia30 speed has nothing to do with it. The 12th gen uses less battery and will also will not be supported by windows updates. Its already about 2 years old.
@@Android.Paranormal why wouldn't they be supported in future upgrades? Lot of people still use Surface Pro 4 nowadays with Win11 even though the computer is becoming quite old. A Surface Laptop Studio will run Win12 without any problem in 2026.
@labalia30 if Microsoft follows the pattern for Windows 11, then processors older than 4-5 years will not be supported. 11th gen might get 12, but it will certainly not get windows 13, and 12th gen likely will since its the first gen with the new P cores and E cores. A fundamental change in how the architecture works.
Regarding the layoffs, this is the same for most of the big ones. With Covid people started using products and devices more and in (for many) new ways, and these companies had to adapt and not least scale up. This included hiring thousands of new employees all over the affected areas of their business, as Covid has eased off and the situation has normalized, and as we're moving towards a recession as well, Microsoft and other companies are scaling back, and adjusting manpower accordingly. So, in many ways I would not see this as something very dramatic, because this is to a large degree normalization with these last two years being the abnormal. But, bracing for impact might also be a part of it, as a possible recession is inbound to his us in the near future, even if we're working hard to avoid it.
@@VyomKinght the Apple processors are faster than the ARM processors in Surface system, of course, but it is not the same operating system. And Apple computers have no touchscreen. It's just not the same use.
Hello? Hello? Microsoft already announced the death of surface duo and all of AltspaceVR! And cuts to the HoloLens staff. All this in last week. When was this video made released 3days ago?
Yes. He mentioned getting it for a heavily discounted price on the Windows Central podcast. I think, he talked about owning this thing in multiple episodes of the podcast. :)
I disagree I think Microsoft will bring Windows 11/12 in some form to the Duo 3. I can think of a ton of Windows 11 apps I would run on a Duo vs the crappy Android Apps.
6:30 I strongly disagree. I used Windows phone and it was a freah breeze on the market. And I wanted to buy used Windows phone... Nostalgic. But I am talking about Windows Phone OS, not desktop OS accustomed foe the phone.
The biggest reason for WP to come back is to be an alternate to Android, one that doesn't mine your data like Google does (while also being more performant, handle background tasks better, etc.). There are many iOS users that would never consider Android because of Google but are still tired of Apple's locked-in ecosystem.
Microsoft is where all good ideas die. They are certainly an incubator for OTHER small companies to make millions using Microsoft ideas. Unfortunately, Microsoft performs the expensive portion of innovation. They get stuck paying for the research and development and then seem to lose interest and move on to the next project. They fail big time on marketing all of their products across all of their lines. Marketing is the one thing that they cannot do and have never done well. They have an "old" image problem. As technology improves, corporations will find a more cost-effective solution to operating systems and Office. Long term, Microsoft will fizzle out unless they learn to sell their products and services. It will take some time to burn through the cash of the stockholders, but it is inevitable without change.
They should make Surface Phone like Surface Phone Duo, just with 1 screen. Of course with a custom SoC and starting from that in the Phone market. The Duo is good but not for everyone. Also Windows for ARM with custom SoC for better laptops. Because Microsoft today can't compete with Apple, they are behind by a lot. They should make Windows DAW compete with Garage Band and Logic Pro, and also Windows Video Editor to compete with Final Cut Pro and equivalent free version. There Is a lot they could just copy from Apple, Like Apple copied everything they have, just polished it in their own style. I can't believe that Microsoft is so behind with so much money they have. It's really ironic.
