I love this topic. And truth be told. Kobe’s were readily available at the outlets and stores when he was playing. You’d have a few color ways sold out but for the majority of the time you could get what you needed. Kobe’s spoke about Nike not putting as much effort in his brand and shoes and it was rumored he was leaving Nike. I say all this to say it’s a trend. It just depends on how Nike wants to play it honestly. It seems like Nike wants Kobe’s to be limited editions. Like early SNKRS releases. They want you to feel you really hit the shoe “lotto” when you get a Kobe.

People who are hoopers and fans of Kobe are not able to buy his shoes. The resale value is just so much for someone to buy without creating a hole in their wallet. Nike must seriously make it so that his shoes are available at a larger rate. MAMBA THE GOAT.

@@ychongy Nike is making a money while carrying on one of the GOAT’s legacy and giving his widow a future for mambacita. Resellers buy and flip for their own gain. Kobe product needs to stay in production.

Agreed! Nike should be doing restocks like they do for the panda dunks…so every hooper or Kobe fan can purchase it from Nike or their retail partners.

You can attribute this to the trend continuously rising for casual retro sneakers that are always easy to find and always saturated in the market. Shouts to new balance, adidas, ASICS, Reeboks and others.

i think the market will eventually calm down. youll still have the hype cws that resell and then the meh cws that sit. throw collabs into the mix too and they can make it sustainable then

i was in highschool when Kobe retired and his line pretty much ended. so obviously i was just a kid who didnt have money like that to buy whatever pair of kobes i wanted. now that im older and have a stable job where i can buy my own ish, i still cant get pairs of kobes i wanted because its damn near impossible to get without paying 3-5x the retail amount from resellers. the itaian camos for example are a pair i really liked back in the day, i remember seeing it on the sale shelves at outlets. i just didnt have a job back then lol. its crazy how its not the hardest pair to get out of the 3 that dropped on mamba day. i understand certain limited colorways like the grinches or mambacitas, but italian camos bro? cmon, nike, what are we doing?

I think you hit the nail on the head. By year 3 the demand might finally meet the supply. But currently since Covid that hasn’t happened with prices being so high. I also think it doesn’t make sense for Nike to pump out a lot of stock bc it takes away from there current lineup of signature athletes. But even the new lebrons, zoom freaks, and kds struggle to sell so maybe this will help Nike basketball sales.

Honestly I think the LeBron 20/NXXT gen almost felt like a GR of the Kobe since 5/6 Protros are frankly GOATed and hope for more and more releases of those models.

Nike should release Kobe models per month like Kobe 1 on January, Kobe 2 on February...etc then have a special release on important dates: birthday, death, 81 pt game, BHM, Christmas on specific models...

The difference is, functionally, Kobes will always be popular with ballers, unless Nike starts scrimping on features. But as long as they keep the “protro” spirit, there will always be a market for them. Yeezys are really mainly a fashion statement, so while it’s out of style, market will be next to none. Of course, trends come back around as with everything else in fashion, so it’s not necessarily the end.

I'm glad Kobe's are back because they're an awesome hoop shoe. However, Adidas has been releasing some fire shoes. I love to see new silhouettes. Maybe this will force Nike to be a little more innovative.

I want Kobe because I’m a big Lakers fan since the 80’s when I was born and a Kobe fan. Sucks for me I can’t get any for retail cause you got resellers who aren’t Kobe fans and in it for just the money. I careless if the value goes down, I just like Kobe 4 & 8’s

True, Adidas was releasing tons of Yeezy colorways, but I think some of the downfall of Yeezys is the polarizing character of Kanye. So not only do you have a fashion trend getting worn out, but the person behind the product is alienating half your audience. That's one thing that Kobes won't suffer from. Maybe the trend will die off a bit, but it's a performance product that a ton of players love playing in. And Kobe is a beloved athlete in the sport. Nike will inevitably start flooding the market with Kobes, and they will more likely follow the trend of Jordan, where some will be easy to get and could head to outlets, and some won't.

Kobe’s needs to be regularly available and at a lower price point with better color ways. I’m not paying $200+ for a pair to ball in. Going out to eat is at least $20 per person now at a fast casual and it’s getting ridiculous. They’re the best performers imo.

I don't even collect Kobe's but these videos make me mad. Who cares? Enjoy your kicks. This is like the equivalent of "Is Boost Dead" videos to generate clicks. Straight up cornball. The MAJORITY of people don't care about "the story". Sneakerheads/Hypebeast live in a bubble to make you think, you matter. These companies sell a ton of shoes you never heard of lol. Imagine crying and arguing over sneakers when they're all made in sweatshops and we pay $150-250 USD. GROW UP.
