Let's be honest, Perez was extremely fortunate to be retained for next season. They could have always signed Sainz or even Alonso. Now Alonso, as Verstappen's teammate would have been fun.
I reckon Horner is just schmoozing up to Checo's longtime billionaire backer Carlos Slim for when he launches some kind of takeover bid for the team with the Thai side. Also naturally the Max camp would throw a hissy fit if they dared to put a live body next to Max
Checo has never been able to adapt to RB car, just like Ricciardo didnt adapt to Mclaren. Mclaren really did both themselves & Ricciardo a favor by buying him out of his contract. And RB really should have done the same. Backmarker teams would have loved to have Checos experience and massive amounts of money he brings with him. Plus RB could have put either Ricciardo or Tsunoda in RB to see if they can hang, which would have also emptied a seat for Lawson. Its absolutely miserable to see Checos driving at the moment, just like it was miserable to watch Ricciardo in Mclaren.
@@officialWWM Obviously Max is incredibly quick. But every top team has atleast one incredibly quick driver and their second drivers are still close to them. Considering how close the field is, its probably too much to expect Checo to be on the front row. However he should still be atleast in the Top5-6. Also as a reminder, last year even with one of the most dominant cars ever, Checo just BARELY got 2nd place in the standings.

In Mclaren, he was consistently struggling to get points with a good midfield car. Now, he and Yuki are the second closest pairing on the grid. And everyone agrees that Yuki is having a fantastic year. So how can Yuki be fantastic and Ricciardo be washed? Cant have it both ways. Besides, after his chassis change, he has actually beaten Yuki more often than not and seems to be getting only faster. Even in Austria, VCARB was not going to be fighting for points on pace. Yet Ricciardo managed to bag the points with great aggressive strategy and tyre management.
@@s1bulka I'm not sure what you are saying. Yes Ricciardo, despite all the talk before he went there of how Lando would deal with someone so good, proved to be not very good when he did get there. Constantly wining about the car not suiting him, as he does now. Now he can match Yuki a bit after being thrashed, but so what, Yuki is having a good year, for and average driver. Matching him means nothing. Being beaten by him does mean something. Jacques Villeneuve said it all. He was spot on. Ricciardo is better at smiling non stop than driving. And, he is good at chasing money. You have said nothing that indicates he is anything but average.
They have a 64 pt lead over Ferrari and 87 pt lead over McLaren with Sergio shitting the bed in the last 5 races. Max's consistency is insane. Max would have to blow 4-5 races for anyone to get close and I just wouldn't bet on that in his current form. RB doesn't need Perez to finish second to win the constructors. They just need him to be consistently around that 5-7 area. As has been the case, Mercedes/Ferrari/McLaren will all rotate 2-8, which means no one will secure the points to catch RB.
Short of a miracle turnaround in form, yes. RB have foregone their usual ruthless streak to keep Max in a happy place and unchallenged. Perez is going to keep getting a lot of flack in the meantime.
I'd sideline Perez after Silverstone, put Riccardo in. He couldn't do worse and may actually do better. Put Lawson into the VCarb and then see how they do. No extra cost as the five drivers all on contract and honestly might unearth a better performance for both teams.
Mercedes have not announced their driver for next year and Wolff wants Verstappen rather sooner than later. So, Red Bull are not even sure whether Max will be there in '25. And not having a contingency plan would amount to criminal neglect. Me thinks Carlos Sainz could be playing an integral role in this contingency plan... why he is so hesitant to sign some deal with a backmarker team.

In 2018, Merc were fortunate to win as Bottas had a pretty horrific second year with the team. Whilst Lewis and Seb duked it out outfront, Bottas only finished 5th that year, admittedly there were only 4 points from 3rd to 5th, which helped Merc to the WCC again. However THAT is the worst that a teammate should performing, and in subsequent years he did indeed finish either 2nd or 3rd. With the grid being so tight this season Checo has to perform each time everytime, or I could see his existing extension being revoked as there as I cannot believe RBR haven't put performance clauses in there.
Already looking as a bad decision by Red Bull to keep Perez on a 1+1. Can’t qualify well and looking at P7 or 8 at best. Not good enough. Put Daniel in the car and win two more constructors championships and support Max. He’s as fast as Max on one lap and can fight for podiums in the right car, which the VCARB is not. And better than anybody else they have. Mature. Been there. Done that. Think Hamilton & Bottas orSchumacher and Barrichello or Massa. Red Bull have this year and next to get this done. That’s it. 2026 and beyond is anyones game.
After the incident with max where the position was not returned, Max stated that he will not finish behind Sergio and he had is reason, could that not be part of Sergio contract??
Completely agree with you - I've been a big fan of Perez, but thr truth is he just hasnt performed well enough last year, or this. He is going to cost them the constructors title, just as he nearly did last year. And thats not good enough for Red Bull. Its bizarre that theyre sticking with him when thats a stake - and when there are (or were) better options out there. I just dont understand it, given how cut-throat they normally are with drivers.
Should never have brought D RIC back. That put a spoke in the whole young driver program movements. Should have put Lawson in the 2nd VCARB this year and then promote him to Perez's seat for 2025.
I think they signed that contract because they fear that Max will leave after 2025 and in 2026 they would be left with 2 inexperienced drivers. So they want to keep at least Perez so they have some continuity in the team w.r.t. communication between team and drivers. Unfortunately that is continuity at quite a low level, as we see now, but maybe they think it would be better than having a new youngster and a slightly more experienced driver that comes from another team.
It’s a move to keep Max happy - which is funny because when he jumps ship to Merc RB are stuck with Perez. Max’s opponents this year will need to show some disrespect to him to really overtake his RB.
Why does RB not do what NFL football teams do when a Quarterback struggles, put in the backup QB. Perez is already being paid, and so is Liam Lawson. Put Liam Lawson in the RB-20 for a couple of races. He can't do much worse than Perez. Marc, do F1 drivers have stipulations in their contract that prevent teams from running another drive in their place? Perez could be costly if RB looses the constructors title and the millions that go along with it.
I cannot think of anyone in Red Bull that expects to win the Constructors title this year. (And as they’ve signed Checo for two more years they probably don’t want to? ) 🤔
Max might not even be able to win every race now. Red bulls saving grace is max is incredibly consistent. He hasnt had a weekend off form since like 2020
Everyone still hating on DR with Perez, Zhou and Logie bear still on the grid. Verstappen x 2 don't want anyone competitive in the car and couldn't give a rats behind about the constructors.
As long as Max is there there will never be two drivers with equally prepared cars. Max us always give preferential treatment. Max showed his true colors last year when Perez was better and Max was ordered to let him pass and he refused and nothing happened within the team. Max is an excellent driver, but he is also a front runner. When he has superior car he's great. But, under pressure we saw the true Max this weekend. It seems obvious to me that he two Red Bull cars are not equal.
for the live of me dont understand why they resigned him. Sainz would have been perfect for the team but I guess harmony has a price. They dont like to upset the star driver. Checo is very inconsistent. Hulkenberg would have been good but probably not much better. Danny Ric is not working out. RB had lots of good drivers paired with Max, none could stand the heat. Max is just too good. He gets 150% out of the car and Checo just 100%. Max is just a worldclass driver. Checo accepted his role as 2nd driver and he brings in lots of sponsormoney. His main sponsor is multi biljonair Carlos Slim. I a sure they have thought long and hard about the choice. I mean they are not stupid. If Checo brings in 30 mill that means he is a free driver plus gives extra money.
Perez has always been overrated. Joined McLaren and was binned after one season. Did almost nothing for the next few seasons, until Racing Point copied a Merc, spun off at the first corner, got lucky on strategy and got a win, and has been in a dominant car ever since and done very little. He consistently blames other drivers for the numerous incidents he has, constantly makes excuses for his poor performances, and was only kept on instead of Ocon because of the massive sponsorship money he brings.
RBR is willing to lose the constructors title to keep Max. Look what happened when Mercedes signed GR against SLH wishes to sign VB. He left for Ferrari.
It's not the same car. Bullshit at the beginning of the season the car was fast. Now it can't even keep up with the Haas cars. It's not Checo. You can tell he is frustrated. The team is 90% Max and 10% Checo.
Drop Dric before the end of the season for Liam. Then, next season, if Checo fails, put Liam next to Max. Simple...The longer they wait to get Liam on track, hurts them more if Max decides to leave.
Perez has huge sponsors, he is in reality a pay to drive driver, he brings in far more than he takes, same with d ric and yuki,.. thats why lawson is hopless of getting any RB seat he just doesn't have the huge money sponsors he can bring to the team,... to help pay for Max
Red Bull will cost themselves the championship as a result of developing a car rhat helps Verstappen who is heavy on tyres but results in his team mate who is soft on tyres not being able to warm the tyres up enough in qualifying. If Verstappen left the team then they would develop the car differently and Perez would be competitive.

RB's average score in the first 11 races was 32.3 points compared to Ferrari's 25.9 points and McLaren's 24.4 points. I can't see Ferrari nor McLaren can close a gap of 64 points respective 87 points in the remaining 13 races.
