"She already answered that with a lot of confidence, leave that alone!" Pure freaking genius for him to catch that "innocent" mental attack, and he's a legend for dealing with it on the spot. I was already a fan of this man, but now I'm a whole air conditioner. Cheers to King Richard for his conviction and bravery, and Will for his talent in bringing this unsung hero to the forefront.

The scene where he advocated for his daughter is powerful beyond measure. Journalists will take liberties for the sake of making themselves look good and it’s just gross how they use people. Richard was not having that. He was their protector and he made sure people knew that. Stand for your kids!!!!

Update: Just saw the film yesterday and it was fantastic definitely a contender for my favourite film of the year. Will Smith completely transforms himself into Richard Williams and I would be shocked if he doesn’t get a nomination.

I met Richard Williams about five years ago outside of the Delray Beach Open Tennis Tournament. He was walking towards me but I did not immediately recognize him as the father of my favorite tennis player, Venus, and the GOAT, Serena. But there was something deeply familiar about him; it was as if I was reuniting with some very dear old friend. We wordlessly grabbed onto each other's hands and just enjoyed the moment of what I would call "communion". Will Smith's portrayal of Richard was eerily spot on! The tennis action in the film was also amazingly convincing! How did they do that? CGI? The performances are all top-rate. But, as you can see, I am very emotionally attached to the subject, so you might not have a similar love for this movie. But you might!
