Will Terro Liquid Ant Bait Get Rid of Carpenter Ants? Let's Find Out!

So I started getting carpenter ants at my cabin. I needed a way to get rid of carpenter ants in a hurry. I found not just one or two carpenter ants, but many. I tried using the flea, tick and ant granules to get rid of the carpenter ants, but it didn't work. So since I've had such good success with Terro liquid ant bait in the past (see this video of mine • How To Get Rid of Ants... ) I decided to see if it would work on Carpenter Ants. I had looked on Amazon and found several products that stated they were specifically for getting rid of carpenter ants. But I didn't want to wait on an Amazon shipment.
I bought a box full of the Terro liquid ant bait packets from my local Walmart. Then I watched where the ants were coming from. Initially, it seemed they were coming from all over. It doesn't seem like carpenter ants use one main trail like a lot of other ants. They just seem to go in a general direction. Finally after watching the ants a few days, I found what I thought were the Carpenter Ants main "trail". I poured some of the Terro ant bait around to attract them. It does seem that Carpenter ants are not as active during the day in hot weather. But at night, they came out in droves! So this video will answer the age old question of will Terro ant bait get rid of carpenter ants!

I found that carpenter ants absolutely love the terro baits. Maybe it's just the carpenter ants in the Northeast?

I'm a Licensed Pest Control Operator. I have to say that I'm impressed. I've never had any luck with sugar based baits on Carpenter Ants and this particular colony ate it up like it was going out of style. Very cool. For reference for other viewers - InTice 10 granules, Maxforce Fleet paste and Maxforce Complete granules are great protein based options that have worked well for me in the past.

Thank you for stopping by and commenting. I had planned on getting some protein baits but then I decided before ordering, I'd just try regular Terro on the carpenter ants. So far, so good. One of the baits for carpenter ants I was looking at is put out by Bayer. Seemed to have good reviews.

got black ants near a bad gutter in the front and on the back deck. Bought some granules they're ignoring. They also ignored peanut butter, a potato chip, chicken. They're showing interest in some honey so I'm going to mix some borax and honey and hope it kills the nest.

The intice 10 uses description excludes carpenter ants. You’re saying it still works?

@Jason Lee Check again. The product label actually has a section of specific instructions on how to target Carpenter Ants. [14 oz by weight (3 cups) per 100 sq. ft.]

I just read on that Maxforce Fleet paste will not work on carpenter ants.

I have dozens in my outdoor flower pots. Trying Terro granules.

I have a cat and dog and the carpenter ants are attracted to their food. I like the idea of a bait station but am afraid that my dog or cat will make contact with it. Any suggestions (from anyone) on how to treat this situation, aside from just removing their food which is what I did already.

I'm wondering a year later did it take care of the problem in the house? Ours were climbing up a tree next to the house. We have a place in Tn. only there a few times a year. We seemed to have the carpenter ants under control and now have acrobat ants. We hired a useless exterminator, I found an exterminator who told us what will kill them. We did put out protein and sweet bait. I'm hoping when we return these things are gone. We bought Tarus SC to spray and had monsoon rains. So hoping in Oct. to spray and make sure these things are gone. Nothing seems to kill ants in Fl.
