That “spreader bar” was used to replace the cut out piece of radiator support, it was to used adjust the front opening. It kept the front of the fenders sagging inward. That’s the way us old timers “I’m 75” removed and installed engines back in the day. This week a 6 cylinder, next a 327, then a 396 and then a 427. After blowing the V8s up back to the 6 cylinder. We didn’t have all the modern technology.

I kind of laughed when robby pulled the bar out wondering what it was for he just may fine he needs it on way home when fenders go flopping lolol

Brings back a lot of memories. I had a '57 Chevy Bel Air sport coupe after I got out of high school. It was 1962 and I paid $1095.00 for it from Baher Chevrolet in Manhattan Beach, CA. It seemed like a lot of money then because I was only making $1.45 an hour at a Union 76, (Unocal) later, gas station. I could kick myself for ever getting rid of it, but who knew. Great series. The date code on the engine makes sense. If the badge on the trunk lid is original to the car, it came with an inline 6 from the factory. Someone probably transplanted the V8 into this car and added the V to the hood. This car is probably a 210 and not a Bel-Air, as it doesn't have the aluminum fillers on the quarter panel and the hood emblems are gold on a Bel-Air. Check the VIN tag to be sure. If it begins with a 'V', it had a V8. If the next letter is 'C', its a Bel-Air car. 'A' would have been a base 150, and 'B' would designate a 210. These were all just trim packages. All the Bel-Air trim parts are reproduced now and you can make it whatever you want. Great project, i can't wait to hear it roar!

Looks like you have a good start on the 57. It's a shame you can't take the time to clean the frame before installing your new parts. The front will have new control arms hanging from the dirty, rusty and unpainted frame. At least the rear end is only hanging from the rusty shackles. When you get back to Utah ha,ha you should spend time cleaning up the undercarriage before starting on the body work. Another thing, I hope you put some floor panels in place before the drive home. Your talking safe drive and it's a lot safer if you don't have holes in the floor the size of the Grand Canyon, that road debree can fly through. Yes, I want the babies to get mommy and daddy back in uno piece. Robby am I right about the Vett?

Totally not hating but couldn’t you have come up with a better example of a 57 to start with? Coming to the rust belt to buy a vehicle like that seems a bit counter productive especially when you live so close to some of the best places in the country to buy clean rust free cars. The other things is why the heck didn’t you at least pressure wash that thing before you started putting all those new parts on it. Seems like now would be the best time to do some cleaning with everything off. I know your under a time constraint but geesh. That wouldn’t take up too much extra time. 🤷‍♂️ Any who I still love the car, love the build, and love you y’all, just a bit puzzled.
