I use to own a bodyshop. That has to go on a frame machine. There's a technique of 'pullin' and poundin' that straightens it back out so the rear deck looks aligned.
he tried to save money by buying a car on copart without having someone that owns a frame machine to give him a good price. now hes going to be paying the price of a used car for a salvage one because he has to go and get a frame machine puller and they will charge him a premium. thats at least another grand in payments out the window, yikes.
I really appreciate you have been so helpful and you have answered so many of my questions I Love those z’s as well I have probably been one of the people running up the bid on ya lol
Need to go look at Weird Beard's channel. They made a puller out of an old engine crane and it pulls stuff like that right out. One of the cars he's working on is a 350Z that took a harder hit than that in the back.
I'm glad to find someone who knows how to use background music and not sound like a maniac. Enjoyed this vid very much. I'm too old and infirm to start flipping cars.
I agree get it fixed it's not hurt that bad & should not cost an Arm & Leg there's a man on here right now that bought a 350 Z yours is not bad compared to his he had to get his cut on in the rear I'm talking the right rear Quarter Panel & the Trunk Floor so do yourself a favor & get the Car Repaired & DO NOT let them make up damage that is not there I say this because you are new in this & don't know that much about this I used to do this kind of rebuilding myself along with my DAD it is fun as long as you do the right thing & get a good reputation & good word of mouth you get the 2 together you have it made
Get quoted for the repair, and sell it as is if it ain't worth it. You already said you were going to be honest with person. You can let them decide to fix or not. "If you want to get that minor dent fixed, it'll cost whatever dollars at such and such shop."
So I watched this video again after you liked it...and it kills me that when I saw your hand in Walmart, again I thought of the Claw machine game! Have fun man, Happy New Year and keep making content!
Sell it with full disclosure. Some places won’t just pull it and leave as is because it now has their name on it and would want to fix it right, meaning replace bent parts with new ones.
Sounds like you went through alot to get it all accomplished but the big profit in the end makes it all worth it ;) your process is actually easier than in Illinois. In Illinois you have to be a licensed Rebuilder to go from Salvage to rebuilt or pay a rebuilder to certify the repairs and take it to have it inspected for you which of course no Rebuilders I've found in a 60 mile radius wants to deal with it.
I like your Chevy pickup. I've bought over 100 cars and trucks over the years and only 1 with a rebuilt title that I couldn't give away. If I was to by from copart it would be strictly a parts vehicle, never for resale . This company should only sell for parts and not resale . Thanks for the information, it has been helpful.
@Do It Yourself Dad in TX, all you did was go to any state inspection shop, or did you have to find a place in particular that handled salvage inspection?
@@DIYD_Do_It_Yourself_Dad I was an auto body tech for 36 years. The best thing you can do to check out damage on a vehicle is to look for any damage under and behind the front and rear bumpers. Then look to see if any of the fender bolts have been disturbed. Stand behind the vehicle and crouch down, look down each side and look for waves or flaws in the paint, it's a dead give away work has been done.
Thanks I'm gonna try my first! And if I really wanted it I would drive it as is. Full disclosure would be automatic given a rebuilt salvage title! And this video LOL!
I registered and tried bidding on Copart for a Tundra truck. Unfortunately they didn't accept the bid because i have no dealer license. They want me to use a broker. I'm is SC but the closest broker is in FL.
If you stripped the car of the bumper, tail lite and the interior panels, the frame shop should give you a better rate. I'de say thats no more than an hour on the machine. One pull should do it. Pull back and up just on that one side. If they have to change hook up's to do other pulls, time on the rack goes up. I don't know about the newer z's but the older ones suck in exhaust if the back hatch doesn't seal well. Breathing carbon monoxide while driving isn't good
@@DIYD_Do_It_Yourself_Dad I live in Canyon Lake. I am looking to buy and flip a cars from Copart. I have a garage and 2.5 acres on the north side of Canyon Lake and have most all the tools needed. I will be buying a home use type frame and body device here soon. We should get together some time. Hit me up on my email and I'll shoot ya my contact info. frankmurray78@gmail.com
good information about copart Thanks.....sell it as is and if the new buyer will like it fixed first, charge him the difference. Dope shirt by the way i have a few my self , ha still no winner in Texas i if I'm not mistaking ... shouts out from Dallas.
Also depending on the insurance company they will give full coverage on rebuilt title yet the car is worth the msrp and not less because its a rebuilt title. And u make rebuilt title cars look bad when u do a half as job and leave the car damaged.
I just bought my first from copart. Did you go to the DMV and get the title swapped into your name as a salvage title before doing the inspection/rebuilt title process? Or did you just take the stuff you got from copart to the tax clerk and go straight rebuilt title? Im in TX too.
tacoAggie good question! In Texas they will not re-issue another salvage title for your name. You either rebuild it or keep the salvage title they give you initially. This is according to Travis county tax office.
@@DIYD_Do_It_Yourself_Dad When you filled out the new rebuilt title application 130-u, did you have the insurance company sign it as the "seller" or its not needed. I dont think i can get State Farm to sign the form if i wanted to. Thanks for the info.
@@DIYD_Do_It_Yourself_Dad Not my insurance company, the insurance company that sold the car on copart. They held the salvage title. On the new title application who signed the "seller" portion?
Did you really think that bent bumper thing was going to even get noticed during the inspection? An inspection just checks your safety equipment, and make sure your emissions are legal. They don't strip it down to the frame...This also varies by state, as some states don't require them at all. I appreciate your video, but , this would only really "help" people in Texas. The car buying/registration/inspection laws and processes vary from state to state. The forms would have different ID #'s, the sales tax would be different. In my state, you have to pay sales tax on the full sales price to DMV to register a car. Once a car has a salvage title, it can never be legally driven on the public roads again, regardless of what repairs may be done to it. It's a shame.
im glad you edited your initial comment. The point of the video is that ive never bought a car from auction, Ive never owned a salvage title car, and ive never gone through the process to have it rebuilt so it can be legal to drive again. I agree that most of my information applies to Texans but there are plenty of states where you can repair a salvage title car and legally drive it again. I made this video to help others so they don't have to learn the hard way like I did.
Damn Texas is cheap getting License Plate and Registration! Won a Car from Copart and final price paid due is $4,100 and getting the License Plate is $745.00! I can't believe you only pay $50.
I'm confused a tad..you bought a salvaged car that needed nothing to get on the road, then had it inspected and deemed good to go, so tell me why did the insurance company write off a perfectly good car?
it did have damage but it didn't affect the way the car drove. To fix the car back to original condition would have cost almost $5k according to the bodyshop. It was barely noticeable from the outside and like i said it didn't affect the way it drove. I sold the car with a full disclosure. The buyer didnt care about the damage.
Yup,my old winter beater was hit on the rear drivers side in December & the insurance deemed it as Salvaged...I didn’t know as yet because they wanted to give me $2600 & if I planned on keeping the car it would be $1500...Insurance then explains to me it’ll be around $800-$1000 to get a rebuilt title.
This is Texas we love our cars. It all comes down to money doesn't take much to pass inspection. I see cars going down the road smoking like a chimney and as long as the check engine light is not on pass pass pass inspection. Hell you could get an inspection and license plate for your horse not really put it is easy here in Texas. Thanks for covering all the fees concerning Copart good to know.
