The only reason this is digestible is because Wright was passed by NJ and Arizona too - you always take a centre over any other position unless you’re convinced the other player is better by a lot. If both Montreal and NJ wanted Slafkovsky that bad, and NJ wanted Nemec over Wright, and then Arizona wanted Cooley (also a Centre but significantly smaller) over Wright, I think it shows that many believed Wright wasn’t worth the hype - and probably saw lots of things that the rest of the lay audience didn’t.

Not really, Devils and Yotes weren't picking Wright not because of the reason with Wright but something else. Devils are lock in long term deal with both Hughes and Hischier so not a lot of room for Wright to play and they are truly lack of defenseman depth. Cooley has much better interview than Wright with Yotes. So Yotes were all over Cooley without a second thought.

Three teams bought into the negative comments while looking at their priorities however New Jersey were looking for a defenseman from the get-go. This is not a Miss America pageant, too much was made of Wright being cocky and let's face it, when you're #1, they will bring you down. I fear Montréal made a bad choice based on recent Finish 1st rounders, Kakko, Kk, Puljujarvi, all flops or certainly not a success. All were tall and looked great at the World's but can't handle the NHL. We will see, but my take is that Montréal made a huge mistake.

I was expecting Shane Wright to be picked but I always preferred Juraj Slafkovsky, big skilled winger with loads of speed and a hard edge. Slafkovsky will be a perennial 30 goal scorer and maybe clip into the 40 range if he is with Suzuki as his center. The issue is that Montreal needs a second top center man and Wright was that guy until he wasn't. Then the trade happened for Kirby Dach for Romanov and even though Dach hasn't broken though and showed he is a top centerman, Montreal can work on his development. No need to rush with the rebuild yet. I'm fine with how it worked out for Montreal.

I heard Wright had attitude problems but I ignored that and still wanted the Habs to draft him. After seeing the death stare towards the people who didn't pick him first, I had no doubt the right pick was made. I completely trust Hughes and Gorton to do the right thing and I have absolutely no reason to think otherwise. They've done all the right moves up to now and most importantly, they don't give a shit what other people think about the moves they make. Their goal is to make the team better by any means necessary and I love it. Like finally, a fuckin' management team who weren't such pussies and called it how it is... a rebuild. When Romanov was traded, all those boos didn't make Hughes flinch. Literally 15 seconds later, those same people were cheering at the arrival of Kirby Dach. A draft is always a gamble and from what I've seen from this Slafkovsky kid, Habs fans have every right to be excited... and can I just say how hella glad I am for the Habs having Marty St-Louis as a coach? Young guys like Slaf and Dach will fit right in.

I think the Habs figure they have at least another Josh Anderson on their hands with Slaffy...So, Even if he doesn't turn into a 40 goal scorer , he probably will still have a lot of value anyway in the eyes of other teams as that supposed rare commodity: the "power forward" and so picking him over Wright was actually less risky...Now if Slaffy becomes a 40 or 50 goal scorer on top of being the scariest power forward in the NHL, then Habs fans are going to be overjoyed with him....Right now, we just don't know if he will pan out...Time will tell...

The reason they made the wrong pick is because Molson won't do a full rebuild. He will lose money and he blames the fans. He says Habs fans won't put up with a couple losing seasons,😂🤣. Slafkovsky will be a beast with Caufield/Suzuki. I'm guessing it's gonna be a shit show for rookie of the year between these two guys cause their both gonna play in the NHL. It actually worked out for Shane to go where he did. He's their first real star. Sky is the limit. If this all falls apart it will be trading Romanov for a player that really didn't work out as far a being top 3 pick. Habs are retooling not rebuilding, this is obvious now. Mississauga scored 229.... a MASSIVE 56 GOALS difference. Assist Total Wright 62 Beck 30 ----- But given the Goal differential Between Kingston and Mississauga i DARE say the Assist Total is a wash///// Size. They are virtually Identical..... So Wright has a better Pedigree.... Beck 60% in the Face off Dot.... no 60.60% (As a Rookie) Wright 49% in the Faceoff Dot. @@ItsLaforge Dach is a 3rd line center at most and he is injury prone, we don't know if Struble is going to be an NHL dman and we drafted a guy at 1st who could be the biggest bust in a long time. I would have felt better if they drafted Cooley and kept Romanov to be honest

You mean, just like we needed a center and drafter Kotkaniemi? The best thing to do is to pick the best player available, taking into account that he has to be a good fit too. As for Dach (to a comment below), let’s see. He’s still young, and management/coaching can have a huge effect. Injury prone at 21? But early to tell.

as a Canadian I would obviously prefer Mtl select a Canadian but th efact that Wright was angry he didn't go first tells me he is lacking in Character, just to be selected in teh first round in the NHL is honour enough, Kid with a sense of entitlement and so glad he did not go to Mtl, he would have crumbled under the pressure if he was submitted to it for having a bad game, weak character inmy opinion and not a real winner, but a premadona, unless he turns out like another arrogant player Matthews

@@thegoughandbordenfamily8234 Dach (who was drafted 3rd overall) got a big injury and he has struggled since coming back. There was the covid years (which IS a factor) and he was playing with a shitty Chicago team where a lot of players didn't look good. And who knows how management was. Chicago's management seems to have been pretty crappy recently. A change of scenery, to a team who want to heavily support player development and who St-Louis as head coach, could do wonders. Or maybe not. Let's not get ahead of ourselves, shall we? And calling a prospect a flop the day following the draft, when he didn't play a SINGLE NHL game is idiotic. You are way ahead of your head. Even if you end up being right, you're just talking shit at the moment. You didn't study any of these players.

Habs will regret not taking Shane for years to come. That's like taking Mitch Marner over Crosby when in prime. Shane has been elite since 15 juraf. Only had a good 7 goals in 7 world's game. Which Shane had 9 goals in 5 games. Shane had a rough year and missing 410 days of hockey during covid will do that, as OHL was the only league that closed down. Juraf. Fin league wasn't. But as if saying Shane was mad? It pretty salty and childish. Only something an evil human living in highschool at the age of 40 would say. He was happy to be drafted in the NHL period. Now he is one of the best 1-2 Punches to come and will be for 10-15 years solid to come. Wright - Beniers. When Shane is hosting the Calder. We'll see who's laughing. Also make one time you know of a giant 6'4 250 pound 18 year old that became a super star. 😂👏 Like really. Also look at the countries, Shane is Canadian and canadians are the goat of the NHL. He was projected #1 since he was 15 years old, just because Habs let down their entire fan base and added drama to their pick to try and teach shane Wright a lesson, doesn't take away the fact that Shane is the best in that class by a very wide margin. And his career since birth shows It. Even with Shane having a slow season t 94 points in 60 games and 32 goals which is actually a 110+ points in 82 games. Or did everyone forget their is 82 games in a season 😂😂👏👏
