"Doncic is a bit of an unknown" is an absurd statement. He proved he can play and be one of the best players playing vs grown men in competition significantly tougher than NCAA. I dont disagree with concerns about his relative lack of athleticism and potentially lower ceiling, but to say Doncic is "an unknown" while Young "proved himself" in NCAA is an oxymoron.

It's not even about Euroleague Luka Doncic at 17 played the OKC Thunder and PUT UP NUMBERS against Westbrook. He proved two years ago he could play against NBA defenders. He also backed it up by dominating a league that has better players than any team Trae Young faced.

Guys... Euroleague is much more competitive than usa college basketball. They are professional players there... But not just professionals, Euroleague is just played by the best basketball teams in Europe. For example... Just the best 4 teams of Spain (considered the best national competition in Europe) can play the Euroleague. We are talking about the best spanish, greek, russian, serbian, italian, turkish, croatian, lithuanian, french, german... teams. There is not any weak team in Euroleague. He has been the MVP of this competition!! Also he has been the best player in the spanish league, the best league in Europe. Trae Young will become a good NBA point guard, but come on... Doncic is a champion. The killing instinct is there and he is super hungry. He plays every match like if there is no tomorrow. He is the best professional basketball player who played in Europe last year being just 19 years old. If you think the passing ability of Trae Young is that good, you still did not see his passing... Young is not a better shooter either and definitely a much worse rebounder and defender. Also Doncic has better IQ. As I said i think Young will have a good future as an NBA player... But not brilliant. Doncic is going to be a star in 2 years.

None of them actually addressed what Zach Lowe was saying. Doncic was the expected, politically safe pick. The default option. If the default option doesn't work out, no one blames you too much. The 76ers passed on Porzingis for Okafor, and ended up missing on two other lottery picks in MCW and Nerlens Noel. The process ain’t about getting everything right. It’s about giving yourself enough chances in the draft because in the end it’s a crapshoot.

100% agree with her. If Trae becomes a good/great player, it'll be because of his passing and playmaking. The shooting will just unlock that. I was just so much more impressed with him at summer league when he had players around him that could actually do stuff, and his ability to set them up was sweet.

I still think the Hawks won this trade. With the hype he is receiving he needs to come in and instantly change the whole team. Plus they gave up their first rounder for next year. I see Doncic and Deandre Jordan improving the team but they won’t be able to make the playoffs in the stacked west. This is so ridiculous, on one side you have kid that won EVERYTHING there is to win in Europe, a on the other whole bunch of collegial kids. You could draw comparison in few yrs, but right now they are miles behind Doncic. In preseason NBA teams play against European and I'm yet to see sweep in those matches.

Young didn't look good at all during the summer league. Forget about his shooting trouble. The real problems are his size, and he's really ~5'11", and his lack of explosiveness. He simply does not have the quickness needed to create space for himself for a shot or to pass.

I can understand the sub elite athleticism concerns on defense, but on offense... Harden, Steph, Kyrie, McCollum, Lillard, Kemba are all guys with less than elite athleticism and/or measurables, and they do okay. If you're starting a team would you rather pick a guard from that list or the elite athlete Westbrook, Wall, Bledsoe list?

I think they both will be great but I fell like there is significantly less chance that Luka will be a bust considering what he's already proven plus his size and I'm a Hawks fan.

You guys are acting like Doncic can carry a team on his back to the finals. The man is a fantastic piece for a team that's looking to make a playoff push. The Mavs are in a position to do that and btw we got a first round pick out of that, so if that ends up being in the lottery....the joke's gonna be on you guys. I'm usually not big on guys from Europe, but this is my exception. He didn't come from some low level league, he's playing on the most competitive league over there and he got MVP at 18. High level euroleague is more competitive, more physical, and more mental than the ncaa. I don't think he'll be a Ben Simmons type that comes in and dominates right away, he'll have to adjust. But this kid is gonna be special

Luka Doncic got a better chance of being a bust than Trae Young. He's too slow to play on the perimeter in the league. He won't be able to beat anyone off the dribble, & he definitely won't be able to guard anyone on the perimeter

Darko Doncic. Anybody ever see the Luka's bad play? I've seen the highlights of him not being able to get by Euroleague players and it was bad. I mean, even when Trae is throwing up airballs you just kind of chuckle because you know at some point in the game during a run he's gonna bomb their asses. But when Darko Doncic couldn't shake his defender, he looked SCRUB BAD and you could really see how he's going to have problems getting his shot in the NBA. He has no chance against an elite defender.

Love how the Euro-leauge is suddenly becoming elevated to 1-A status (with the NBA being 1). If the Euro-leauge has 25 players that could play in the NBA, that means the rest of the league comes from the NCAA. The Euro-league is at best a power conference in the NCAA, and the Mav's basically drafted a young Toni Koch (and I think they think they drafted Dirk 2.0). That's not to say Tra Young will be a star because anyone who is being directly compared to a generation talent, they already start with 2 strikes against them (see: Harold Miner).

The biggest problem with Trae I think is, that they traded Schröder away to free up minutes for him.. so yeah, easily taking Doncic and keeping Schröder would have been the smarter choice
