The problem is not that the Russian tanks (especially the T-90M) have good frontal armor, the problem is when you shoot them in the side and barely nothing happen. Like look at the 2 shots at 1:37 like what even is that, skill issue 😆

Shooting at Track. Has always being an old problem with War thunder.. Since the start of Ground units... Nothing new. Just avoid the damn track when you shoot.

@@Rek1emMScar To also note, the era hanging off the side does so much in tandem with the spall liner. the 120mm effective era lessens the pen of a dart while starting the shrapnel early, it hits the main armor which dampens the round even more and by the time the dart gets through the spall liner aswell the round has been pretty much lowered to only a few pieces of shrapnel. Idc too much (unless it is game breaking) if gaijin wants to buff or add certain mechanics in the game, I just dont get why the do it to 1 vehicle instead of all the ones who need it or have it IRL.

All russian MBTs (T72, T80, T90) have 80mm of side armor (steel) and a lot of ERA, while for example the Leo2 has 35mm and basically nothing.@@wirb3859

You do realize this is a dev server and none of this is final right? It amazes me how when anyone but Russia gets vehicles everything is fine but as soon as a new mechanic is introduced in a tank that isn’t not Russia everyone starts bitching up a storm about something that most definitely not be this way on release. Like no one is crying the gripen can pull 21gs sustained.

The difference between this and t-80 is, we all knew t-80bvm had an invisible spall liner. Gaijin is taking us for idiots but were like ok fine well bite the bullet but now, gaijin is openly putting bias over other tanks.

Yes, the BVM is just poorly modeled and its ammo has some absolutely bullshit damage model, it isn't part of some secret invisible spall liner conspiracy. The T-90M has an spall liner and so it should, the problem here is that other tanks are lacking it and that Gaijin refuses to acknowledge it.

@@cutthroat795 Most players don't know this but if you use Nvidia ansel freecam to look inside any t-80, youll see that they have a fully armored turret basket. Its basically 360 spall protection for the turret crew. Its thickness is perfectly around 5mm so that it will stop some spalling but will not create any spalling because its too thin for that.

Gaijin (I think) has said that other vehicles will get spall liners in the future, but how much do you wanna bet that they're saying this to calm the hate being sent their way? Let's not forget about the community manager that got doxed because he labelled the spall liner on the T-90M as "Not a bug" and then suffered the wrath of a pissed off player-base.

It's always bothered me, how much easier the stock grind is for Russia when you can get a LRF/LWR as literally second or third mod, while NATO MBTs require it being AT MINIMUM a Tier 4 upgrade that requires upwards of 90k RP down (used to be over 100k) before you can even start researching it, like Leopard 2 PSO requiring 1 tier 1, and 3 tier 2 mods and 3 tier 3 mods before you can even start the grind for the LRF (which is also not including snatching the 16,000 RP tier 1 APFSDS round)

NATO tanks only get laser rangefinder WITHOUT LWR as a rank 4 mod, like on the Leopard 2A5, 2A6, 2A5 PSO, Strv 122A, Strv 122B PLSS, all of these have their laser rangefinder as a rank FOUR mod, WHICH IS MY POINT, you have to grind 100k+ RP before you can even get a good LRF, vs Russia getting it as the third mod you can get (like 20-25k RP at most, or 36k if you take a detour to get rank 1 APFSDS first... and Russian tanks with stock HE that oneshots top of the line MBTs by touchng their commanders optics have far more use for auto-range-adjusting LRF than a NATO tank does with HEAT FS that doesn't work... it's blatant favoritism.

The russian tanks aren't balanced already, this one will be even worse. This makes it so you can *barely* make it through the side with the best APFSDS rounds in the game, and if it does make it through the armor, it won't do anything. It's blatantly overpowered. It gets advantages that no other tank in the game has. It has armor like no other tank in the game. The ONLY shortcoming of this tank in war thunder is its reverse speed.

@@str1k3rex They clearly don't care about that anymore, Kronstrat, F16AJ, YAK141, Mirage 4K just a few examples. This tank is pure power creep, the only downside to this tank is its reverse speed. hell they even lessened or just straight up removed some of the common weak spots on this.

nice video man, and the problem is always how the devs have coded the soviets tanks for top tier, both China and Russia are the same, you shoot them and is all RNG, the fact that a Turms can pen a SEP or the 2A6 among other with no issues and they can struggle is just insanity, i don't mind of Russian tanks can 1 shot any of my tanks, just let me do the same to them as it was 3 years ago ? i dare to say before the BVM introduction, the moment the BVM got added, everything went downhill for other nations, and i know this because i also mained Russia at the start and they were mostly a support nation and wasn't easy to play those tanks.

I used to play Armored Warfare and i think about it every now and then, its sad where its at now but all the tanks were balanced one way or another.

the thing about the spall liner, whilst i am aware that other vehicles have it, to me it wasnt advertised as much compred to the T-90m, i first lerned of such things though an animated video explaining the improvements to the vehicle compared to previous tanks and they made a dedicated mention of the upgrade

That's because it's a fairly new bit of Russian tank design, whereas in the West it's been common hat for decades. Nobody at BAE, General Dynamics, or KMW would have articles written about the spall liner in their latest Chally, Abrams, or Leopard, because that wouldn't be newsworthy. But if you read manuals on them, or development reports, they list them like every other common feature.

@@Panocek But the thing is, they're similar but separate features; when NBC protection was new, it was often talked about when vehicles were first introduced with it, but now it isn't mentioned. The same is true of dedicated spall liners; they were noteworthy when first introduced, but after a while became commonplace and so stopped seeing fanfare. I don't deny that NBC linings would help against spall, but a dedicated spall liner is a fairly new feature of Russian/Soviet tank development. Otherwise, why would it be a big deal on the T-90M?

I have no problem with the fact that they add the T90m. I have a Problem that GAJIN adds a Spall liner (which is standard in nato tanks for years) to the newest tank for Russia and didnt even consider to add it on NATO or any other Tanks. I get the point that Russian Tanks have their weak spots and i also play them a lot and for that i can say that you survive a lot more in RUssian tanks.

Ah, also, one question: What would you recommend to get a big head start to grind USSR/Russia? I want to grind it but I cant decide wheter to get the 11.3 Lineup (expensive but NICE - KA50, Mig23ML, SU39, 2S38, BMP2M, T80UM2, T80UK which I'd all load with a Talisman) or the common 10.0 one (SU25, T72AV, BMP2M, 2S38) which is wayyy cheaper (390€/200€). Thanks for the vid!

I am guessing you have another tech tree spaded, if you are completely new to the game do not do either. One thing about russian teams at 10.0: They start to win and may have all 3 caps but once everyone died a single time, the enemy team ALWAYS reverse sweeps. To be honest though, the bmp2m and 2s38 are really powerful at 10.0 (turms is okay too, i dont know about cas so cant tell you) but at 11.3 you will get addicted to the armor and speed of the t80s to a degree where everything else will feel shit. So if I were in your shoes, provided you have toptier experience, go with 10.0 because else you are ruining it for yourself + cheaper + less repair cost.

The only thing that's going to grind ground vehicles in that lineup for you is the 2S38. The rest are squadron or event meaning they don't get proper RP outside of 1 rank below them even with talismans.

You are going to severely fuck up your grind time if you go with the 11.3 lineup. Most of your ground vehicles are non-premium, so even *with* a talisman, they're going to be horrifically inefficient at vehicle research, with the exception of the 2S38. If you want to grind the entirity of the tree, your best bet is to go with the 10.0 lineup, as all of them are premiums with the exception of the BMP2M, so they'll cover all vehicles from rank 1 - 7. If you decide you enjoy the tree once you've hit rank 6, THEN you can go ahead and pick up the T-80UM2/UK for your lineup, but do NOT get them to start.

Russian bias has hit a new extreme with this update. This makes me want to, once again, start vomiting profusely. I havent touched tippy top tier since the BVM was added, and with the M getting added, it still wont be playing it for a long time. Unless they add the spall liners to all tanks that have it, Russian ammo actually starts exploding when hit, muhfreebrams gets its DU, i wont ever be returning. And that depresses me greatly.

I'll forgo the spawl liner in the Abrams, which it has in the tech manual, which is declassified, for the addition of the 829a3 or 4, which can pen any Russian tank frontally. But no round even russian is modeled correctly. I.E. you are not walking away from a HEAT round if it pens or a DPU round that ignites the interior...

In a fight where you and a russia MBT face each other and you both shoot at the same time, 90% chance you will die. Russia MBTs don't have to waste time to aim at your weak spots because everywhere on your tank is weak spot (except obvious place like turret cheek). They can just point and click then you dead while you have to give 1 - 1.5s (veteran skill) to aim at their weak spots. Not to mention these weak spots sometimes fail to kill the tank. Now with the new T-90M and spall liner, good luck killing it with Abrams or any other NATO tanks except for maybe Leopard with L55

the problem is that russia always get the newest mechanics first before other nation gets them which is already a unfair advantage which is why most people hate gaijin. example, spall liner, on the t90M first before another tanks that even got it 2-3 decades ago, best spaa which outranges all other competetive spaa and had the first smokeless missiles, era that actually has KE protection unlike nato tanks, seems to have spall liner before it even as a thing with ammo disappearing and nato rounds not spalling etc

slat armor at the back of the engine replace with era, cage armour in top of turret with extra net, maybe some drone counter measure, and they also said improved reverse speed

@@m.adrekaal-dziqro8257 I've seen the video from Russian army with the T-80s being put back in production with better transmission(supposedly 25km/h in reverse) but T-90M is still yet to show the same. From all the videos I've seen it still got the 'good old' 4km/h reverse speed

@@Nothing-yq2gz Basically it has electronic jammers, evne MORE Relikt (stack Relikt atop the Relikt), often times a top armor cage (cope cage) and sometimes Nakidia RAM camo. Nakidia makes it difficult to spot with IR guidance, electronic jammers are used for drones primarily but apparently they can affect thermal sights too. It supposedly has a fourteen-fifteen km/h reverse speed but I am yet to have this confirmed. Oh and they have thermobaric tank-guided missiles. It would be an absolute monster in the game. But I think one tank that would be worse would've been the refurbished T-80BVM tanks made this year. Twenty kilometer per hour reverse speed, top cage armor, more Relikt and cage armor at the front like the T-90M, and electronic jammers as well.

Fun fact: it's armor litterslly just got nerfed according to the data mine UFP Composite armor plate: Generic armor quality: .485->.25 Cumulative armor quality: 6.82->1.5 Gun mantlet: 20mm -> 10mm

"things might change" is always what is said to reassure people about Russian vehicles that are OP on the Dev server. I can't tell a single time where these vehicles have become worse on the live release Have you guys seen the ERA on this tank ? It stops every shell coming at a 45° angle Mark my words : the T-90M is going to be the single most powerful ground vehicle added into the game EDIT : The update dropped and ... Nothing changed.

I found it very odd to see Russian tanks being so much overpowered and not even one Ukrainian vehicle in the game while they got a lot of upgraded T-64, T-72, T-80 and even the T-84 Oplot… 🧐 Also other nations should have tanks that at LEAST are able to pen the T-90 M from the sides… which doesn't seem to be the case right now :/

They can pen it from the front and sides. It’s just the spall from the sides that will be reduced, not the penetration.

Ukrainian vehicles can't be added to the Russian tree, period. Plus, they have enough tanks of their own for a separate tech tree now. Hopefully that can go in after Russia's been sufficiently rehabilitated, but right now it's pretty much a non-starter. Shame, since someone's already made a custom model for either the Oplot or Yagatan tank.

@@Boris_The_Turtle Well thanks for the information, I myself play with French tech Tree as a main so Leclercs and I was a bit worried to see that even the DM 53 (650 mm of penetration instead of only 575 mm for the French OFL F1) was struggling to pen on the sides… So imagine with my poor Leclerc ;/

I just hate how they are screwing over nato tanks, and specifically the abrams. All ussr/russian mbts show a progression in their armor and firepower. However, the abrams still gets the same hull armor as the 10.3 abrams. The us already has a bad win rate, and it is only going to get far worse. (I am a ground rb player so I don’t care about air rb inbalance)

I think we should all hold our criticism until the update drops and see if anything has improved. Also from what I've heard from the goblins of reddit is that Gaijin has confirmed an armor buff will be coming to the abrams sepv1 and sepv2. I'm also hoping for the hull armor nerf on the 2A7v is a bug because if it isn't then I'm damn well going to call them out on it. We were promised a better leopard with better protection as the strv122, but that isn't the case at the moment.

Bruh I play with russian tanks but I also have squadron Abrams. With Abrams I make all games at least 3 kills and in good matches i do 6 or more kills. From my experience I can say that Abrams are better than russian tanks. They always die with 1 shot while abrams in most cases need at least 2 shots for die. I don't understand all these babies crying for spall liner into a russian tank. It could however be destroyed with 1 shot of you hit the right spot

Honestly the problem is the Abrams could not be AS shit as it is if they would properly BR them. All they have at least the 120mm variants, is good ammo. That's it. The 105mm M1 is literally the worst MBT in the game. Even the Ariete is better than the M1 Abrams.

3bm60 is accurate to that tank but all the shell Russia has Ingame in inaccurate. M829a2 is comparable to mango. Ik that sounds crazy but historically that was the competitor and the ma829a3 was produced to be the improvement over mango. America recently started to using the A4 variant but that’s super new

GAIJIN has made a mess of the game's balance. If it weren't for our dissatisfaction with GAIJIN, GAIJIN would even only be lining the T90M. I don't know why GAIJIN updated the new version so early this time. The completion rate of many vehicles is still very low, and there are still many top-level vehicles that have not been lined. I can imagine how bad the new version will be. Maybe I should go to Steam and give WT a negative review.

Russia needs absolutely no new tanks. They haven’t for a while. What we need is balancing to what’s already in the game. The “major updates” usually tend to be focal points for B.S. rather than great big uplifts.

Certain era (mainly Russian) have been designed with countering apfsds in mind, I'm pretty sure they have a thin plate to eject on contact and compromise the rod
