The future of Tiktok is at risk in the United States - with a possible ban being considered in Washington.
The popular video-sharing app is used by millions of Americans every day - and is owned by a Chinese company.
Republicans and Democrats say there's nothing stopping China from using its data to alter algorithms and influence voters in an election year.
Critics say that's nonsense and a clear violation of freedom of speech.
Under the bill, the company must sell its assets -- but to whom and under what conditions?

Every country isn't an adversarial state, so this isn't a logical conclusion. And it's not a ban, it is regulation to make sure American data stays in America. Companies in the CCP are mandated to share data with the government. In the US this isn't the same. In either case no American Social media is allowed in China, nor is tiktok, they use another version by the same company.

The Tiktok bill and various anti-Tiktok legislation were first introduced YEARS AGO (long before Hamas' Oct 7 terror attack) while Trump was President, remember? Tiktok was already banned on government devices (so for officials, representatives, public servants and anyone who works in a govt building) in Europe and India as well. This bill has been a long time coming, and finally the US is moving to protect kids from hostile malware and spyware too.

You are correctly comparing malware with malware, at least. The difference is one is a malware rootkit that dictators pay millions to install on a target's phone while Tiktok is malware rootkit which millions of people and mainly kids install willingly on their device to route all their data to China while additionally getting brainwashed with CCP propaganda and genocide denial, election misinformation, eating disorders and mental disorders promotion, and so on. China is sinking billions into Tiktok and even with 20B revenue it's STILL LOSS-MAKING, WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU? It's not a business, it's a cyberweapon..

The difference for her as a political dissident is that google and meta will not send her info to china. The US just approved a law that prevents selling American users data to Chinese companies. China on the other hand, by law, has the right to demand any information from any Chinese company. Now, you could say that the easiest way to get around this is to stay off TikTok, but she’s not wrong.
