my only question is "if you ignore the smallest things" then why allow a woman who had been a witness to be shown in the sequel, who looks terrified when she sees Sparma, why...?

Definitely a suspense. And I feel like If you don’t have the attention span to sit through plot development of a movie that is a suspense not a guns blazing explosions going type of movie this ain’t for you. But this is a perfect step into the mind of those who have been detectives and worked on investigations and the toll it can take on their family life, themselves, and their overall mental health. Psychological suspense thriller and it does just that. No extra bs it was pure and I loved it

I was initially excited for this movie because of the amazing cast. The movie looks like your typical murder mystery but I thought that they would do something special and different with it. Unfortunately they didn't. The first thing that really bothered me was Rami's character. Maybe I'm just used to him in Mr Robot, but I was having a hard time buying him as a cocky detective. He almost felt miscast. However he did begin to grow on me as he was starting to get deeper into the rabbit hole with this case. I love Denzel but in this movie I just felt like he was playing the same roles he usually plays. Former great detective turn wash out. This is also where I noticed a lot of the dialogue was just too much. Way too much exposition. Denzel's character says "the little things" like 5 times in the movie. Constantly telling us that he used to be great but all this stuff happened and now he's not. We get it. Jared Leto was probably my favorite in the movie. I loved his creepy demeanor and he definitely stole the screen when he was on it. But I don't really like the direction they took the story with his character either. The movie was definitely slow at points and it could have been a bit shorter. Still, I was hoping the pay off would be worth it. And unfortunately it wasn't. It felt very small. I get what they were going for and the point of it but it was a let down. Overall, it was okay. But could've been way better. Great cast and good music but that was about it.

Looking forward for the sequel so we can actually find out the real killer but Spoilers--. Great performance by Denzel. His character ( Deke) was so tired of low life’s getting away with harming others and so shamed by his own grave mistakes, he saw an opportunity in Baxter’s temper and manipulated him into murdering leto’s character. It didn’t matter to Deke ( Denzel) if he ( leto) was guilty of that particular crime or not. One less criminal on the streets to Deke as he said his farewell to the game. The writing was ham fisted but the actors did a great job nevertheless.

This is a guilty conscience cop movie and not a serial killer vs. detective thriller. Sort of a slow burner and borrows from too many past movies. The acting is good, but not worth sitting through. Too many plot contradictions: [Spoilers sort of] Is he by-the-book or has he gone rogue? Our hero Denzel seems to have a six sense when it comes to murder scenes; however he is riddled with guilt for botching his last case. The story begins after he (Denzel) runs away off to California farm country to clear his conscience and be a sheriff deputy; yet he keeps digging up his past. Malek plays a straight laced homicide detective with ambition and wife and kids- yet he drives off in the night with creepy Jared Leto who they've roughed up at the station and try to frame. The movie runs out of money, story, and credibility about 3/4 into it. No detective jumps in car with a serial killer to go dig up bodies in the middle of nowhere.

The Little Things starts well and grips you from the beginning. Then unfortunately, slows down while trying to build its main characters without maintaining its action and edge. It does end well and gives some great dialogue between characters. Overall I give it a "7"......as its worth seeing but will not be a movie you will talk about or remember long term like Seven or Silence of the Lambs...

If “The Little Things” proves anything it’s how “the little things” can derail a perfectly fine morality play disguised as a whodunnit and turn the last third of this Denzel Washington “vehicle” into a woeful train wreck. Ugh. Disclaimer: I am not one who needs things spelled out for me, so the ambiguity at the end isn't what bothers me. And I'm more than happy to suspend disbelief in service of enjoying a cracking good yarn- spinner. No, it was the ludicrous idea that not only would a cop would leave his partner behind during a stakeout, but that he'd get in the car with a suspected serial killer! I mean, c'mon. This was a deal-breaker for me.

Same for me. It's the damn Malek gets into the car scene that ruins the film.

Although I get what this movie wanted to be, this movie is shamefully bad and an insult to the audience. Choppy story telling with a series of illogical scenes. Filled with every possible thriller cliche, starting with Jared Leto’s long hair, weight loss and creepy disposition. How creative. To make matters worse, Rami Malek is terribly miscast for this and never taken seriously as a Detective, and his odd performance more creepy than the serial killer himself. 2 hours of my life wasted.
