I've owned a Triumph tiger 900 and a speedmaster 900, both were 2005. 2 of the best bikes that i ever had as far as reliability and comfort. Although they were 2nd generation triples from what you have that design was solid.. I'm looking for a cheap Bonneville currently. Hopefully you will give that bike some love and bring it back to as close to spec as possible.

Those pod filters are awful. Although they fit over the outside of the carb body, the interior has a flange that blocks the air venturi for the slide. That means that the slide won't raise properly as your open the throttle, which along with the incorrect jetting is why most bikes run terribly with them. Although the airbox is more difficult to install, it's worth the time to have a proper running machine.

Hi Craig, about that finnicky airbox: i usually get some silicone spray on any rubber part. Rubber has silicones in it that tend to evaporate and make it dry and extremely stiff and stubborn. A little silicone spray every few years will keep the rubber from drying to much and will make it slip sooooo easy. my fuel tank has rubber mounts: went from needing 2 people to remove it to just a single hand.

@DJSekuHusky
@DJSekuHusky 2 месяца назад
@@Saertyhg lol, I was 9 when that bike came out. I remember the joke about those bikes being "the _REAL_ Triumph was getting it to run for any amount of time." -Dad. *TL;DR* I'm 34, I don't feel old, I feel blessed. Sometimes you just have to push your limits and go places you haven't gone before to really appreciate life... like riding a neglected Triumph down a exploratory gravel trail with significantly reduced brakes. Craig gets it. I daily'd a motorcycle for 7 years, but life got complicated and the 600cc bikes (01 Suzuki Bandit 600s, 07 Yamaha FZ6) had to get sold, so now I take advantage of the abundance of e-bike parts suppliers to build my own. I completed my longest ride (42 mile round trip) yesterday. During the ride, I had one chain hop (I had to re-tension chain on the side of the road), had to swap batteries once, had 1 near-wipeout with an uncovered drainage gutter (locked up both wheels), and got caught in a surprise severe-thunderstorm. At one point, I took refuge under a bridge due to the high winds, rain and lightning, but had to leave in a hurry when a flash-flood raised water levels over 4ft in a matter on minutes. Luckily I moved my bike a few feet forward to the opposite side of the bridge when I did... I climbed up the embankment to shield myself from the wind, and by the time I realized the water level had risen so much down below, the path was already fully underwater, with my 10" wheels half-way submerged (touching the bottom of the deck), and the spot I had been previously about 1ft deep, meaning full deck submersion and fried electrics since it's only weather-resistant (not waterproof). With no place left to stick around, I sent it through the storm (which with my wheelbase is only about 25MPH, I don't dare do 40MPH top speed in the wet) with lightning flashing all around, until I arrived at the next overpass where the path was elevated and the river widened, so there I was able to wait out the storm and continue my ride fully dry and in peace after. I still drive for work (company vehicle), and I've been driving for 19 years with 0 collisions or speeding tickets (even when I had my CDL for a 30ft bus) so it's not like I'm bad at it, but I don't have to deal with the road-ragers and unsafe drivers and stop and go traffic and all that in my free time... life's too short to put up with that.

I just picked up another bike and it gave me an idea for a video you could do that might just help out a bunch of us. When I got this bike, I was told it has a "jet kit" in it. Basically it seems someone hacked off the mufflers and otherwise it looks pretty stock. It seems to run pretty rich. I was thinking you could do a video on how to tell when you need to change jet sizes, how to troubleshoot your jet sizes, and just a general how-to and info on jetting your bike. I'm thinking I might just rebuild the carbs with OE jets and start fresh, but I'd like to see your take on jetting and when to do it, when not to do it, and how to do it right. Anyway, keep up the good work and looking forward to many more fun and informative videos. 👍

Easy pod fix, tape up the back half of the filters so it doesn't run too lean.

Thanks so much for doing this video. I honestly think adv bikes are the future. This is my next adventure. The off road capabilities open up so much more fun.

I bet in time they let all the roads just turn back to rubble and dirt. And we will all need adventure bikes.

I'm happy to see you showing a motorcycle that is nice to look at. No front brake again; I would not even consider riding it.

The condition of some of those back roads is better than some main roads in Ireland lmao

Air box not that hard to fit if you have fitted many , i have , shad tree mechanic tip , section of old motor bike inner tube cut in strips , stretched over the pods covering half the filter surface will create a better negative vacuum to lift the slides and richen it up a bit....ive done this a few times....
