This is a high tech performance cruising boat ..form follows function .. its aiming for an experienced sector of the market...and also younger environmentally concerned families. Its designed to allow you to run ahead of weather ..be efficient in light airs and also withstand harsh conditions and being pushed in conditions that can cause problems for the likes of Lagoons. Laminates and upolstory are cosmetics ... Bamboo gives a wonderful range sustainable natural wood finishes.. though many boat manufacturers use films. That the hull is natural Bas-SAlt rock derived fiber means its lighter stronger greener and very resistant to scrapes and puncture.. genuinely inert unlike carbon that can cause corrosion and conducts. Its also Chemically resistant and easier to recycle at end of life. Nice detail those tramps are virtually flush with the deck like the hatches... an added safety point. The fold down transom needs an option for a quick plug/flip up safety rail, for those with kids /pets and a habit of stepping back whilst talking after too many sundowners.😉😂 Most places thats just going to result in someone getting wet but in some waters you might find yourself dropping in on Bull, Tiger, hammer head sharks and salt water crocodiles. The cabin roof layout pad is popular with holiday cruisers... The entire move to covered and internal helms is one that has been pushed for by people who spend long periods at the helm on passage in all weathers. Sun, Heat and storms are all more problematic for live aboards and passage makers i can point to a dozen U tube sailors who have had close calls with skin cancers and skin damage from over exposure. Even young couples... like Anna and Riley. The Barefoot doctors highlighted the importance in their search and Nahoha the O'Kellys and Atticus have all had issues .. Ditto Ruby Rose. Although this vessel comes with a backup generator ...the combination of Electric drive with regen under Sail and massive solar panel area. Will smash your fuel consumption and maintainance costs. Two infinitely controllable electric motors make docking easy, especially Med style. If im right these also use shaft driven props so simpler to maintain, less prone to damage. Big question with any Modern multi hull, can it dry out on sand or mud beach or bar.. or does it have to be hauled out to Inspect the hull props or rudders. More and more places people visit dont have the facilities to cope with larger Cats. Nahoha s bulkhead failure may have started with a un even haulout and relaunch. Your sound balance was very much improved though there was a couple of spikes in the background music .. 👍🏼

Hey Dave, great video and I love your comparison charts. I actually have one of these on order. The owner of this boat went way off script for the interior, wanting to keep it easy to clean since it's a charter boat. Windelo has an interior designer and prefers to have a more balanced interior and they do offer wood veneers. That being said, they are making lots of improvements on subsequent builds.

Thanks so much for that update and CONGRATULATIONS!!!! The Windelo crew seem so exceptionally nice and easy to work with. They have a real family feel and a genuine interest in doing the right thing. I love their tech and so much of their ideas in this boat. I'm still surprised how much I LOVED that forward cockpit. Please stay in touch and feel free to share renders as your design comes together (daveo@fdeoconsulting.com).

Very nice video, thanks for sharing. I enjoyed it with my morning black coffee☕️. I have same thoughts that you mentioned in the video. This boat gives me a ‘IKEA Apartment’ feeling . If it have nicer furniture and flooring, thicker cushions, bigger washer/dryer and a simple upper lounge area, that would be perfect boat for me and my husband. It’s hard to decide between HH and Windelo for us. Hope Windelo team watch this video and get some interior design ideas 💡.

Great video! Although a monohull sailor I too love Windelo catamarans. I also wanted to complement you on your style of responding to the unnecessarily harsh, one line comments. Most people don't understand how much work and effort go into making a good video. Creators learn by doing as they go and most get better and better at producing content. I look forward to seeing more videos from you and wish you the very best with your channel.

@@navalgazingatcampdavid I am intrigued about the cockpit forward that looks like a water trap in the HH and the canvas flap that looks flimsy in the windaloo - how practical is that forward access at speed in a heavy sea?

I agree with you. The boat has all the features I’d want (lots of solar, electric propulsion, performance and that great cockpit location) but the plastic looking interior finishes was a big detractor. With wood veneer in certain areas and more upscale cushions etc and you could have a performance boat that also looks elegant and inviting. We are not a fan of the all white everything.

Wow what a great review !! I think you and I have a lot of interest in common. I totally agree about the washer dryer. Also the sky lounge would be awesome I love your idea. My two biggest points are where do you watch a movie at anchor and how can you get Light into the shower and head on the guest hull. I’m thinking maybe a hatch if it’s possible and frosted glass door. But I agree it’s a it’s a rocket. With a super safe and effective Helm/cockpit position. Maybe they could put a TV on starboard wall next to the stairs and the swinging arm that swings out and turns 45° and rests on top of the kitchen shelf?😊

Hey KC. Thanks so much for watching and commenting! The TV is actually on the forward port salon wall. In all the videos it has the plotter repeated on it, so you may have missed it. I never thought about the shower issue. I’m going to look again. Again, thanks for watching!!

@@navalgazingatcampdavid Yes I saw the large screen. it does not seem to be located where people can relax and see it. It would require 90degree view from the largest bench seating at the dinette. Typically I see screens in view for the folks sitting on a settee or L-shaped sectional of sorts. It seems also that one could remove the dinette table and slide the stools in front of the bench seat and get some type of sectional going. It is from that position that I thought one would want a large Screen, Thats why I was thinking why not move the Plotter/Screen over to starboard and swing it out 45 degrees at anchor resting it on the top counter shelf of the galley. The down side would be one would need to duck down to step under it to go down the starboard hull. With where it is now, I think I saw a 2 person covered bench seat that 2 people could watch the screen with out turning their heads 90 degrees. I feel many would tell me not to worry about it as its what you get in a performance cat and that I should look at the Leopards and other production comfort cats for that. It is something that I think should not be overlooked. If someone else has a solution I'd love to hear it.

Hi Dave, I like your comparisons as it is always nice to look and to compare boats, particularly when someone does it for you, so thanks. I am not convinced about your 50% add for sail away. First of all because there is no direct relationship between the boat value and what you would like to add. Secondly I think it is far to much, sure you can add 50% (getting a carbon mast is a good way to start) but likely you will add 20-25% or even less than this is you want to save. Also, it misses the point a bit as you do it for comparison reasons with previously owned: they may indeed have lots of added stuff but chances are you do not value those add ons but want others. So, apart from that concept 50%add, I really like it. Finally, if you want to get Sylvia sailing don't bother her with the boat but show her possible cruising destinations, I think that works better ;-)

@navalgazingatcampdavid Год назад
Hey Katja. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!! I am us in every tool in my arsenal to convince my Beloved, including exactly what you recommended! Lol! Re the estimated sail away. I came up with this rough estimate after optioning out about 50 different mono and multi hulls off their manufacturer’s price lists. This is based on my option desires. It always came to 30%~50% adders with the majority near 50%. Having said that, it is only meant to act as a reality check on the often silly base prices as no one is sailing away on a base model with the possible exception of an Antares. Thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment!

Dave, I came back to this video after watching the Lagoon 51. we are very intrigued by the Windelo and wondered if you sat on any of the bench seats in the saloon? the backs appear very upright and the cushions looks very thin and uncomfortable (with short seat bases). The whole things just looks "un-loungy" and wondered if you have any opinion on this since you gave it an 8 on interior comfort. Cheers Mike
@navalgazingatcampdavid
@navalgazingatcampdavid 2 года назад
It’s funny. I had the same impression. The thing is that I can’t honestly recall the comfort of the saloon seats. I was so enamoured by the forward cockpit and how amazing the visibility was and how very pleasantly surprised I was with how well that unusual design worked that everything else sort of faded. One thing to note is that the Windelo team are FANTASTIC!! Their marketing Director, Elke, is a gem. I get the sence that they are ready to work with clients to achieve your desire so I wouldn’t hesitate to talk to them. I included Elke’s email below. Also, they have a new video about the interior. I have included the links below. Just remember that you are looking at hull#1 so many changes and improvements will come. Especially with the corporate culture that they seem to have cultivated. I've got a couple of issues that I'd like to resolve with this boat like the dinghy storage I prefer to have it and the lack of opening forward facing portholes and windshields ask me concerned about at anchor comfort as far as feeling ventilation. We'd be adding air conditioning to this as well.

Hey Udyy. Thanks for watching and especially for taking the time to comment. I couldn’t agree with you more. This was a very early video and I literally knew NOTHING. I was purely looking for something that my wife would agree to live on. That was the ONLY criteria at the time and this channel’s sole purpose was to convince her to do the circumnavigation as a retirement project. Since then, viewers like you have taught me so much! Saftey, helm position, resin, fibre choices, core material, even the way that core is formed to the mold. It is such a blessing to have so many incredible perspectives and experiences to draw from BEFORE I make a buying decision. …and Sylvia is even starting to come around. Hi Surtrpicks. “Spoiled” is my middle name. Lol! I really love what Windelo are doing in almost every area except the interior…and they are far from alone in this deficiency. I don’t know what it is about cats that manufacturers think our desire for a non-plastic, high class interior evaporates just because we want the comfort of two hulls. I would love it if Windelo would offer the interior of an Amel in their walnut finish. Both contemporary and exceedingly elegant. After all, if I’m living in a small space, and paying $1.5M+ for the privilege, I want to enjoy what I’m looking at all day. Thanks for watching!D

Hey large pizza. Sorry if anything comes across as pretentious. Not my intent. It’s been fun exploring wines and regions that I never would have tried outside of attempting to add more than just another boat review by another amateur lol. The art is also something that I would never have looked at (added in later videos) but it too has turned out to be more fun and enlightening to my simplistic palette than I would have thought. I’m an amateur in all three (boats,wine and art) just stumbling along till I find what I like ( or, much more importantly, what my wife likes) and documenting the journey for posterity and the creative fun of doing so. The “elegance” is a sincere requirement. I like to enjoy my spaces, whether restaurants, home, office or yacht, and my beloved insists on it. The raw utility that appeals to the true sailor, will never see me circumnavigating…at least not in a married state. Lol. Thanks for watching and especially for talking the time to write a comment. D
