That air thing in the trunk is a blower for the rear window. A "rear defoger"... before the gridline in-glass type... GM used those on a lot of their big cars.... didn't do much for keeping ice off the glass. But it did "defog". Those vintage Eldo's are the best!!!! A big true Cadillac 472 CID V8 with a 1st Gen Front wheel drive car! They were tanks but great cars. Take care if it!! Ps... those "coat hooks" are shoulder belt holders as most people didn't wear belts back then... they would fold up in the ceiling to get them out of the way. Also car had "rim blow horn"... you squeezed the rim of the steering wheel and the horn would sound.
@WalkiTalki
@WalkiTalki Год назад
Crazy thing with my 69 was that the only reason I replaced the headliner in it, many moons ago, was that the seat belt hooks rusted through the headliner. I have had people tell me they are stainless but I can tell you from experience mine were not. So maybe it depended on the trim package. But 60s GMs and modern 'vettes are the best vehicles GM ever built.

Great find!! The V-shape in the rear window was formed by taking the sheet of glass and setting it on a hot steel rod make it malleable at the center point, then bending it to the exact angle for fitment into the car, right along the assembly line at the glass install station. They had to wait for it to cool before inserting it into the car which slowed production and contributed to the high sticker price.

Beautiful cars. It's funny watching young people figure out things us geezers remember. Seatbelts were required starting in 1968. I would kill for that car. Those clocks never worked. It was easy because of the low mileage and it's a Cadillac, Cadillac owners took care of their cars and they lasted anyway. I hope you guys are using high octane gas. The hoses and blower motor are for the rear defogger. Electric defrost was an option, mid year I believe. And they were REQUIRED in the state of New York. Seat belts were mandated for cars produced after 1 January 1965 for both front seat positions. Shoulder belts were mandated for all cars (except converts) manufactured after 1 January 1969. Nice old boat, just check all the hoses and belts (replace ALL belts and hoses and flush the cooling system and check the wheel bearings) before you drive any distances. Phoenix is BRUTAL on all the rubber hoses and belts, even if it was stored in a garage. I would recommend a trans service as well. I live there for years and horse traded a lot of cars and since they don't have a state "safety inspection" a LOT of issues were ignored. Safety is FOREMOST. Good luck with it.

As clean as that body is any reputable paint and body shop should be able to match those minor spots with ease rather than repaint the car. One thing you DON'T want to do is start removing any of those vacuum lines as the system is all tied together and you could lose or damage a lot on that car. One very lucky young man!

It will rust out the roof under it if you leave it on there in that condition. With a little bit or work, that car will be worth some money. I wouldn't use it as a daily driver. I would try to keep the mileage low on it. You guys need to find some indoor storage for that car. It has clearly been stored indoors for most of it's lifetime. Especially in a climate like Arizona, it will deteriorate very quickly if you leave it outdoors. I have seen it happen. Keep it covered at the very least.

The engine is a 472ci.. Puts out 375 HP and 535 foot pounds of tourqe .. I'm writting and haven't finished watching.. This is FWD ..2nd yr for Eldos .. The CV joint boots tend to tear often (too much power)... The factory horn button is a 1 year item.. It was called "rim blow" the inner ring of the steering wheel is the button as you are holding the wheel you squeeze the wheel with your thumb.. As you sit in the drivers seat, open the glove box.. On the edge of the door there is. A slot about 5" long..The owners manual goes in there (most people don't know this).. The a/c system or climate control.. Is always on.. The a/c compressor is always on (I put a switch in mine to shut it) when these cars were made, gas was ? $.25 a gallon.. Also only use R12 don't covert to R134... If you can get "R12" there were "drop ins" we used back in the day.. It was basically Propane.. Yes you can use Propane.. I know I know it's flammable..R134 Isn't until it's under pressure combined with oil.. It's less then 2lbs.. Don't worry, plus the a/c will be much colder then R134... I daily drove mine, it was great but 8-12mpg in the city wasn't.. Maybe 16mpg on the hwy. The ash tray/ cig. Lighter on the door was for the rear passenger.. I'm kind of sorry I sold that car but the money was good and it was hard to keep in the city without a garage.. Good luck to Chris..

The tubes from the trunk, are for defrosting the rear window. It drag air from inside and blow it on the rear window. Do not throw those. It is very rare to find one with those hoses still intact!!!!! Great car. You have a button on the dash, with rear defog written on it. That button start the fan for the rear window. The engine is 501 cui. It has arround 500hp at the Crank.

Fun facts ... the '67 Eldorado was the first with front wheel drive (first GM with front wheel drive was the Olds Toranado in '66). While this is a 472 cuin engine in '70 they got upgraded to the 500 cuin (400hp and 550 lb-ft of torque) for better performance. I had a '72 Fleetwood in my College days ... only mechanical issue was a broken Valve spring (didn't tear anything else up thank goodness). But some free advice for your bud ... hot Texas day and had a rain shower that dried quickly but still a few puddles. Pedal to the metal on highway on ramp, hit a puddle and the Engine died. Pulled over ... no mechanical sounds and restarted just fine. But the second I put it in gear and gave her gas, she died. Had it towed to a "Shop" who wanted big bucks and rebuild the engine. Being in College, didn't have that kind of cash so in the pre-internet days, ask friends if they knew of a better shop; wasn't buying the motor rebuild diagnosis as there was zero mechanical noise. Asked my Barber and he pointed across the street to old gas station mechanic/muffler shop. After my haircut, walked over to discuss the issue with the old guy. Told me to tow it over by 8 am and it would be fixed by noon. Sure enough, came at Lunch and it was running like a Top !!! I was amazed ... so I asked him what happened. He informed me that Caddy's have a double wall exhaust system to keep everything "quiet". When I hit the puddle, the inner wall ballooned and restricted exhaust ... think "Banana in the Tail Pipe" gag. So if it ever happens, your Bud will know ...

@@-oiiio-3993 Yes, but those were upscale coupes based on existing platforms. The 1967 and 1968 front wheel drive E bodies had hideaway lamps. I like your thinking, though!

@-oiiio-3993 Год назад
@@jeffshadow2407 So 1969 was not _"First model year with exposed headlights,"_ was it? Also, the 1953 Eldorado had a unique body as did the 1957 - 58 Eldorado Seville and Eldorado Brougham models. The stainless roofed 1957 Fleetwood Eldorado Brougham was the first U.S. production car with 'quad' headlights, illegal in several states at the time.

Oldsmobile Toronado was introduced in 1966 with FWD, Eldorado went FWD in 1967. The Cord L29 was FWD, by the way, from 1929 through 1932 followed by the FWD Cord 810 / 912 of 1936 - 37 which inspired the '66 Toronado. That said, 1970 was the best year for Eldorado and the best of the 472 / 500 series engines. I had a gold '70 DeVille some years ago.
