Nathan - Does Woodmizer have an effective metal detector option to mount on the unit? Coming from Missouri originally where tree owners got into the habit of pounding spikes into trees to forestall tree pirates, I sometimes cringe when things are running so smoothly like today when milling this fine-looking walnut just waiting to hear that horrible sound of the blade being damaged by foreign objects in the tree.

I am a retired civil engineer. The strength in a pipe culvert is developed with good compaction and good fill on the sides of the pipe up to the spring line. The pipe cannot squash if the sides can’t push out into mud. So the rock might have been better used on the sides of the pipe.

I am not an engineer, but that is the way I always understood it. That is the way I did it even when I buried rain conductors. Must tightly pack the sides.

Personally, I'm from a different branch of engineering but I've put in a fair amount of drainage. I normally go with a little bit of good clay to bed and seal the pipe then a good deep metal fill (broken rock, prob GAP 50 or 70).

Besides the hat you should apply a SP50 suntan lotion on your exposed skin. Because of my time in the Sun while in Viet Nam I got melanoma in one of my ears, behind the same ear & on my back. Surgeon gave me 23 needle shoots to numb my ear before cutting the cancer out and doing a skin graft. I have think its SP20 shirts that I wear in the summer. Dermatologist told me to only spend a maximum of 15 minutes a day in the sun. Love that saw mill.

Restaurant style baked potato. Wash the potatoes and pat dry with paper towels. Put the potatoes on a cookie sheet (or a sheet of aluminum foil) on the top rack of the oven. Do not wrap in foil. Bake at 350 for an hour for a medium size potato and an hour and a half for big pounder potatoes. When done, slit the potato and with a paper towel protecting you from the heat, push the ends together so the potato fluffs up. The whole idea of baking potatoes is to get rid of the moisture inside the potato. That is why you never wrap a baked potato. Think of a good baked potato like wood coming out of your kiln, drier is better. If you make a GOOD baked potato, the fluffy white goodness inside is your reward.

😊Nathan, please think about this…. talk to your doctor about the best hat to wear for protecting your head from the sun.I have a hat that is made out of cloth that has been treated with material to block the UV rays. Straw will not do it. Also UV rays are present when it is shady. Something to think about

Be interesting to see how it holds up. I would have put geotextile down before the rock. In my experience, the rock will push down into the soil over time and "disappear".

I would put a couple of logs along the sides to help keep the rock from sluffing into the ditch and blocking the flow of water. It would also help to prevent the tires of the tractor from getting too close to the edge.

Agreed with brethren valley. You love to work, Nathan. Dump and back-backdrag. Then roll it in a few time, backdrag, and roll in as close to the edge. Don't worry about pushing rock on the end. You can pack that in with you litte trackhoe. You'll be set for yrs.

You can air dry it to about 12% or you can kiln dry it to 7% then take it out kiln and it goes back up to 12%

Why do prices never go down? Our Dear Leaders (of both parties) love to spend money that they do not get from tax revenue. They print as much as they can and then borrow the rest. Next time you buy a shovel, get one with a fiberglass handle. It is much stronger than the current wooden handles.

i'm a vet with an infarct in my brain. Had a follow up appointment appointment 25 Apr 24 for tests done 8 Apr 24. Appointment pushed out to 12 July 24. I requested community care and was informed that program is 6 months out. Community Care was developed to take care of appointment over 90 days out at the VA! I had an inspiration for you to involve Bruno in his first entrepreneurial enterprise. If you end up getting a chipper to grind up your waste cuts from the sawmill, those chips could be used, with a hydraulic press, to form fire 'bricks'. Bruno could run that side business for you, and generate an alternative income stream for your family business. All the people who have wanted to buy firewood from you in the past would be happy to spend money on a good-quality firewood. You could become their source of heating and cooking. Maybe along with the fire bricks, you could produce wood pellets, too. Who knows? The sky is the limit, and you're looking for an alternative to just burning your scraps on the fire pile, so why not turn all that waste into cold, hard, cash?

Costco sells a Solzar hat that also shields you from harmful sun rays. I havve worn it for two years and it is very comfortable. The only down side to the hat is that it is manufactured in China.
