Love is in the air, mask up! If you like enclosed underground spaces where axe-wielding miners lurk in the shadows, then you'll love this full movie reaction to My Bloody Valentine!
An interesting thing about this movie is when the town heard that a movie was gonna use their mine to shoot this in, they spent $50,000 to clean it up. Apparently the producers were pissed that they made it clean because of COURSE THIS MINE IS SUPPOSE TO LOOK DIRTY AND USED. The film's production spent like $75,000 of their own budget just to make it look dirty, gross and active again. This movie was shot in Nova Scotia btw and as a Canadian, I gotta support Canadian horror ALWAYS! Loved this reaction as usual!
@rudy2fat I REALLY WANTED to love ‘Happy Birthday to Me’ but it kind of drags on. The main character’s backstory with her brain surgery after the accident felt forced in at moments and led to some weird unexplainable moments. We get that weird killer fake out like 20/30 minutes in with the one character who made a he’d sculpture of a prior character who’s been killed, then we get that other moment in the bell tower with that one guy who has a knife. Our lead’s backstory wasn’t too clearly explained and just bogged down the pacing and provided some pointless/weird scenes. This movie does have some creative deaths and I did like the ending however.
Fun Fact: My Bloody Valentine was filmed in an actual mine in Canada, and the camera crew had to use special lighting equipment to prevent any methane explosions.
I love these kind of old 70s and 80s "not so classic" horror movies. You should definetly watch Suspiria (1977 original version), it is my third favorite horror movie of all time after Carrie (1976) and REC (2007)
I do think this movie does a pretty decent job at making us feel sorry for those that are killed. Mabel and mustache guy were nice and really didn't deserve to die just for wanting a party. And while their party tricks are weird (drinking through the nose), it was the 80s, there wasn't much for young adults to do
The remake of this (technically the movie that Kirby mentions in Scream 4 cause she's listing remakes^.^), is completely worth a watch! Yeah, it makes some of the classic remake mistakes, but it does really expand on the relationships of the townspeople and the story~~~ It was a 3D movie, but I think some of its intentional 3D shots they really nailed, especially if you got to view it in a movie theater (which I thankfully did)!~ Seriously, there are some shots in the remake that they took from the first and elevated!~~~ I think, in a rare way, the original and the remake don't take away from each other, and I'm happy both exist^.^ (I'm also a fan of a lot of the cast in the remake^.^)
Yes, the remake of My Bloody Valentine is one of the best slasher remakes. Maybe that's because the original film wasn't some untouchable classic (e.g. Psycho or Halloween) but still had plenty of potential that had never been mined for a sequel (unlike, say, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, or even Prom Night, all of which had already seen franchise fatigue long before the remakes came along).
I saw the remake in theaters as well and the 3D stuff was actually pretty well done. I enjoyed the film for the most part. Some of the acting was mediocre though and I still can't stand that guy from Final Destination who was supposed to be the hero but overall it was ok.
One of the few slashers that focuses on a group of working adults being the victims, instead of teens or college kids. I feel so sorry for Mabel though, classic sweet Canadian grandma energy. It was filmed on location in the town of Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia - coal mining has been present in the area since the 1700s, and there were even mines that extended 8km out under the sea, which is a bit of a terrifying thought...
I do _not_ understand why you don’t have at _least_ 100,000 subscribers at this point! Your movie reactions are absolutely top tier every single week! And you’re able to do what so many reactors fail to do, which is riding that delicate line between poking fun at the film but also taking it somewhat seriously/appreciating it for what it is. No matter the quality or tone of the film, you’re always fully on board for the movie to take you where it’s going and you never look back! Which is one of several reasons as to why you’re a cut above so many others! (Other qualities include: your incredible & hilarious quick wit, your general movie & pulp culture knowledge, your ability to recognize all sorts of actors, your amazing/gorgeous hair & multiple, fabulous different hairstyles, and genuinely *so many* more!!) I first found you via your _Scream_ reaction and I instantly had to stan. lol. Since then, all of your _Scream_ reactions, plus multiple others, have become comfort videos for me when I’m feeling down or feeling out of sorts at all. So, *thank you SO much* for that! And I am soooooo freaking pumped for your reaction to _Scream (2022)_ that I’m counting down the days until it comes to Paramount +! lol. (I know it won’t be your first time watching it, but it doesn’t matter to me in the least! I’m just excited to see everything you have to say and how you feel about it! Also, I’m fairly certain that, as of today, we’re 8 days away from it streaming on Paramount +, which makes us that much closer to getting your reaction. Yay! lol.) I know I’ve already babbled on plenty (Sorry about that. I can be a real chatty Cathy at times. lol. And I have a _lot_ to say today for whatever reason.) but it’s been a _hot_ minute since I’ve thrown out any suggestions. (I feel like it’s pointless as I’m sure that you have a *HUGE* list of movies compiled which you’re already working your way through. However, based on your reactions to each and every movie you’ve posted for us thus far, I am absolutely *positive* that you will *LOVE* all three of these films!) So, they are _The Faculty_ (1998), _Urban Legend_ (1998), & _The Cabin In The Woods_ (2011). I am absolutely chomping at the bit to see you watch these films for the first time! (Provided you haven’t already seen any of them, of course! Cuz… duh. lol.) Again, I’m just *so sure* that you’re just gonna *LOVE* each one of them! They are right up your alley! I (an internet stranger) promise!! (So how could you possibly go wrong?! lol.) Okay. This is now waaaay too long so it’s very doubtful you’ll even read it, which is a _major_ bummer (But _totally_ understandable!), but hopefully I’m wrong about that and you _do_ read it all. Hopefully we’ll get your _Scream (2022)_ video in the coming weeks. Hopefully you’ll watch the movies I suggested sometime in the near future. Hopefully you start getting the subscribers and view counts that you deserve. And, most importantly, hopefully you’re having a *phenomenal* day/week/month/2022!!! Thanks for your awesome content and for being you, Alanda! You really, truly are the BEST!! 😊
The remake is really good too. This was part of a string of Canadian slashers in the 80s. There was a huge discount for filming there in the 80s. “Prom Night” and “Terror Train” both have Jamie Lee Curtis and I recommend them both.
This is one of my favorites!!! The uncut version is so much better! The movie had most of the death scenes cut when it was first released but the uncut version has them and they are much more gory. You always make me laugh with your comments and i love watching your reactions ❤
I’m so sad I didn’t know about the uncut version! This was the only one that came up in my streaming search aside from the remake 😩. I’ll have to look for it And thank you!!💛
And the funny thing is you know it took them forever to find these scene. Some of the film was unusable and they are still looking for a good piece of the film. Friday the 13th and John Lennon's death (which all happened within that year) cause MPAA to cut it
There’s a whole Array of movies you’d have a blast reacting to Horror: Orphan, Suspiria (1977,2018 remake), Don’t Breathe, Malignant, The Conjuring, The Strangers Comedy: The Favourite, The Sweetest Thing, Bachelorette (2012), The Breaker Upperers Drama: Mother!, Panic Room, Black Swan, Unforgettable Thriller: Red Eye, Crimson Peak, The Skeleton Key, A Cure For Wellness
@@AlandaParker A couple of them are kind of trashy, messy bad movies that you wouldn't stop laughing in and you'd really need to suspend the disbelief and one of them, you'd need to bleep a fair bit out but you'd love your ass off in it
And Scream 5 is out for demand in early March so fingers crossed you get to that. PLEASE!!!! I laughed my ass off in the 3rd act to that movie, you may know why
Another great start to the week with you Alanda. Btw, watch the 2009 Remake. It's the closest thing to a sequel. *Fun Facts* During the prime of Canuck-sploitation. George Mihalka created this movie that was conceived and produced entirely over the course of around a year, the film was shot on location in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, in the fall of 1980. It was theatrically released on February 11, 1981 by Paramount Pictures, coinciding with the Valentine's holiday. Unfortunately this movie was victm of butchering by MPAA. The notable censorship, having a total of nine minutes cut by the Motion Picture Association of America due to the amount of violence and gore. Though co-producer John Dunning confirmed that the excised footage still existed, attempts to release it proved difficult as Paramount Pictures refused to offer an uncut version. In 2009, Lionsgate subsequently licensed the home media rights to the film and both Paramount released Blu-ray and DVD editions with three minutes of additional footage restored. The Police Chief is voice actress Cree Summer Francks her Father.
I second the motion for the remake. I saw it in the theater when it came out, in 3D (first 3D movie I saw and it was right at the start of the 2000s 3D boom), before I saw the original
I saw this one and it still is crazy. That part where everyone was just trippin and screaming always has me cracking up lol. Everybody bout to fall out! And yes Axel was giving Billy vibes from Black Christmas. Sarah be my bloody Valentine is one of those classic lines in horror movies
I’ve been filming a bunch of 80s movie reactions and was extremely disappointed until I watched MY BLOODY VALENTINE! It’s immediately a new fave! and your reaction: 🔥
Please review ANY of these lol: The 1st Black Christmas remake The Hand That Rocks The Cradle Cursed House Of Wax remake Single White Female Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003 Sleeping With the Enemy Fear (Reese Witherspoon)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this doesn't look like the unrated version, which is a shame, cuz the theatrical cut is awful, some scenes are incoherent because of the cuts and you don't get to see properly the AMAZING practical/makeup effects in the kills scenes. They were deleted for being considered "Too realistic". And damn, the kills in this movie are still "WOW!" to this day. Anyway, loved your reaction, Alanda! You're a queen!
I saw the remake in theaters. Honestly can't remember if the story line was any good, but it's campy and ridiculous. If you're interested and if you have a friend with a 3D television, watch it on that.
Huge fan of yours. Love your reactions. Has it crossed your mind to make a Patreon to provide your superfans full length reaction videos? I could watch movies with you for hours sis
And just when I thought Alanda couldn't surprise me more, she watches this legendary horror film! PS, My Bloody Valentine is ALSO an incredible band ;)
Your sweet beauty is why I started watching these reactions. The only downfall to that is I get so distracted by watching and listening to you that I can't pay attention to the movies. Which is okay with me especially if I've already seen the movie you're reacting to. I'm going to have to join your patreon and start watching your full reactions. Please don't think I am creeping you or am weird. I am being sincere. You are INCREDIBLE!!!😍😍😍
Another fantastic reaction! Great way to add to my lazy Sunday enjoyment. ❤️ Thank you again Alanda, you’re a treasure! Definitely recommend original recipes Prom Night and The Fog, and throw in Terror Train. All three are from 1980 and led by Jamie Lee Curtis. The Fog is more John Carpenter magic, and the soundtrack is one of the best ever and haunting. Prom Night and Terror Train are also Canadian horror gems like My Bloody Valentine. All three are underrated classics IMO just like this one. Also, the music and dancing for Prom Night is cheesy perfection that helps lighten the terrifying mood.
10:24 Them not telling anyone to avoid causing a panic happened in the 2018 Halloween film as well causing people to be unprepared when Michael escaped, went back to Haddonfield and started killing again. And then in Halloween Kills the exact panic the useless sheriff Barker wanted to avoid happened when the people of Haddonfield found out Michael escaped and formed a mob to find and kill him but they were in such a frenzy they went after a harmless mental patient thinking he was Michael and the patient eventually killed himself rather than be killed by the mob. And even though they eventually found Michael and beat him down, he being the superhuman being he is got back up and killed them all.
As always, love watching your reactions. Hope you've been doing well. Let's help her with the algorithm, y'all: watch the whole video, don't FF through any of it, like, comment, share(if you can), and subscribe if you haven't. She's a sweetheart & very fun to watch. Gotta try some suggestions(won't all be terrifying b/c I'm not trying to traumatize ya, lol). *Willow *The Goonies *Nightbreed *People Under the Stairs *Stay Tuned(1992) *Vampire in Brooklyn *Hellraiser I & II *Arrival *Interstellar *Cloud Atlas *The Marvel Movies & shows *The Magicians{show} *Lovecraft Country{show} *Buffy & Angel{show}
I thought the film was decent enough the first time I saw it, but I've grown to enjoy it significantly more with subsequent viewings. It may be faint praise to say that this is one of the better slasher films of the 1980s, but the movie has several things going for it: adult victims rather than teenagers (with fairly good characterization for a Golden Age slasher), an effectively creepy costume for the serial killer, and a memorable setting. On paper, it's essentially just a variation on fellow Canadian slasher flick Prom Night from the previous year, but it's a superior version of Prom Night in just about every way.
I've been enjoying your videos, especially the horror movie ones. My recs for you include the original The Evil Dead (1981), The Blair Witch Project (1999), and The Cabin in the Woods. I'd love to see your reactions to these films.
Miss Alanda Parker • Great review as usual. Kudos on catching the Canadian lingo, I don't know whether you're from Canada or not. I appreciate the shaking of the camera when Axel and TJ were fighting at the end of the movie knocking down the beams in the mine (unintentional special effect from you maybe). I also find it hilarious 😄 and sad at the same time that you get the majority of your horror movie knowledge from Scream movies. I wish you could have watched the unedited, original version of this movie it would have freaked you out even more especially the final end scene. And since you liked this movie consider watching a movie called "Mother Lode" (1982) I can promise you pickaxes and mine shafts.
There's actually special edition of this movie the uncensors the kills. There's two-and-a-half minutes of extra footage that they had to cut to get an R rating.
Definitely recommend checking out the extended version, It’s available on HBO max! Unfortunately the MPAA made the filmmakers cut really awesome practical effects from the film for it’s original theatrical release. The extended version only adds a few minutes back in. But it makes a big difference! It’s worth seeing how the kill scenes were supposed to be cut together, in all there practical glory!
Hey Alanda! I love your reactions. ❤️ I don't know if you've ever considered doing collabs, but I'm a moderator for BillyBinges and whenever he talks about potential collabs, myself and many others in the chat tell him he needs to reach out to you because you are wonderful and fabulous. He said he'd try to find your contact info because he already follows you, so I hope you say, yes, if he gets in touch! Keep being amazing!
“That Canadian is correct.” My thoughts exactly.😆 Love the hair waves today. Please tell me you’re reacting to TWD as well as movies this winter/spring.🙏🏻🤞 EDIT: A recommendation: a great horror movie for April is April Fool’s Day with the fantastic Deborah Foreman, from 1986. Classic 80s slasher.
Hey Alanda Parker! A classic AP review! His heart was in Hot Dog water? Haha, if I had been drinking something when you said that it would've shot out my nose from laughing so hard 😅. There's nothing better than spending Sundays with you!
I’ve only seen newer My Bloody Valentine with Jensen Ackles in it because I’m a Supernatural fan and my dumbass never knew there was an original haha! Thanks Alanda! Love your videos!
the uncut version is so good. they cut a lot out. like when Mabel pops out of the dryer there are a couple more tumbles. Also when the harbinger of Doom goes out to the mines to set up his prank the scene where he gets pickaxe to the face is cut out, you actually see his face with a pickaxe through it. Also the ending watching him cut off his arm is so horrifying and bone-chilling. This version was the theatrical version that was released.
Your Paula Abdul "oh oh oh" when you said straight up had me cackling laughing lol. Its these little clever references that get me every time I watch your channel lol Love your channel.!
I liver your reaction videos!! I have a great suggestion for another holiday themed slasher movie for you! I'd highly recommend April Fool's Day (1986) or Slaughter High (1986) for April!
depending on the version you watch some of the effects were cut out, but added back in, but to this day i believe the intial movie hasn't been fully restored
It looks like you watched the R-rated theatrical version where almost all the gore was cut out. A few years ago they released it unrated with all the gore put back in and it’s so much better. It’s worth seeking out because the kills are totally gruesome!
Alanda your commentary has me LMAO!! 🤣 Girl you the best and this reaction was top notch 👏🖤 The movie Kirby was talking about was the remake as the 4th Scream was all about the remakes. Just thought id let you know 🙂. Did you watch the new Scream??
One of the creepiest endings to a horror movie that gives chills every time, with Axell running away into the tunnels, possibly to bleed to death, the light fading as he asks Sarah to be his Valentine, his creepy lullaby and Harry Warden's insane laughter.
When will you be finishing watching the rest of the halloween films? Can't wait for you to get to the newer ones 😂. I love watching films with you, its so much fun. Also wouldn't mind watching beetlejuice with you (if you haven't already done that one)
the old mine towns didnt need a police force, but they did have a large rescue force which could be used incase of emergency. my home town in the UK was a mining town and the rescue people far out weighed the police back in the day
Definitely watch: Deep Red (1975) Suspiria (1977) The Silence of the Lambs (1991) Urban Legend (1998) Valentine (2001) House on Haunted Hill (1998) Thir13en Ghosts (2001)
I literally watch it every Valentines Day! I watched it this Valentines Day and I was low key wondering if you’ve ever seen it!! Great reaction!!!!!!👍🏼👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💜💜🔥🔥
My Bloody Valentine was one of the Canadian slasher films of the early 1980s, along with Prom Night, Terror Train, and Happy Birthday To Me. You'll notice the Canadian accents and several scenes where Moosehead beer is prominently featured, and there's at least five scenes that take place in a bar or that show people drinking. 😆 🍺 🍻
And both Prom Night and Terror Train star Jamie Lee. Terror Train is more of a New Years Eve set slasher, and of course Prom Night would make a good video in the Spring time.
My birthday was Valentines, you’ve reacted to some of my favorite movies already and you’ve added another classic! I can’t wait for you to watch the remakes.
Yes girl you got to check out Dario argento's italian horror movie trilogy suspiria, inferno and mother of tears but also check out the prowler it's around the same time as Friday the 13th
I have some movie recommendations! I would love to see you watch Vanilla Sky, Requiem for a dream or even Donnie Darko. Those types of movies have always been way scarier to me than slashers.
OMG I'm so glad you did this one. It's one of my favorites and I've been wanting to suggest it for a while. Have a great weekend beautiful and keep up the great work!
This movie rules. One of the better low budget horror flicks from the 80's. Definitely check out the 3D remake when you get the chance and definitely try to watch it in 3D if you can. Well worth it.
1981 was a great year for slasher movies. Some more that are worth checking out: Hell night, Madman, The burning. Just before dawn, Friday the 13th part 2.
One of my all-time favorite slashers. I really wish we would've got a sequel. 1981 was my birthday year. And also one of the greatest years for horror.
I remember seeing this when it came out. Was unimpressed. Maybe it’s because they tried to create a horror movie out of one of the blandest holidays. I don’t know. I just don’t get it. However, I did enjoy the reaction as always!
The villain is a really neat idea, the effects are pretty good, but the characters are really grating and the pretense is sort of bland if not poorly used. I could see a cool slasher film based on Valentine’s Day, but I’m not sold on this particular rendition of it.
Lol, why do I feel like you on 10 day? Girl you had me cracking up the whole time. I'm in the gas station looking like a straight nut cause of you, lmfao 🤣 😂 😭 💀
There is a Canadian Slasher called Final Exam from church 1981, it’s generic but the really did a great job at making the characters 3 dimensional. You end up learning about their personal lives and aspirations before they’re killed
