It's the 90's and there's a mystery killer among us again! If you like being suspicious of everyone around you then you'll love this full movie reaction to Urban Legend
I feel this movie is underrated. It had alot of cameos in it that were fun to see. The guy that voices Chucky( Brad Dourif) and Freddie (Robert Englund) are in this plus Danielle.
I forgot how many notable faces are in this movie! Jared Leto, Loretta Devine, Alicia Witt, Joshua Jackson, Rebecca Gayheart, Tara Reid, Michael Rosenbaum, Robert Englund... Stacked 90s casting...
Fun Fact: The killer wears the big winter coat because the original script set the movie during the winter time when it was cold and snowy. However, that changed at some point before shooting, but they kept the coat as the costume! :)
Joshua Jackson also had frosted hair in the movie Cruel Intentions. Not a horror movie but a great movie non the less. It also has Ryan Phillipe, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Reese Witherspoon. Actually this is the movie where Ryan and Reese met. I would strongly recommend that one.
This movie had casted some classic slasher callbacks. The gas station attendant was played by Brad Dourif(the voice of Chucky), the professor was Robert Englund(Freddy Krueger), and the roommate of course was Danielle Harris(Michael Myers' neice/heir).
“You work for a student paper, at a small college, which is fictional” is something I feel should be said to Jared Leto about his career on the daily 😂
I forgot Freddy Krueger, Chucky, and Jamie Strode was in this movie 😂 That’s when all these 80s icons were doing cameos in these late 90s and new millennium horror flicks.
Alana reactions be so hilarious, "It's the 90's you can't trust boyfriends" Truer words have never been spoken. In most horror movies in the 90's it was always someone close to the protagonist.
Ending Explained The whole movie was just one of the many versions of this "Pendleton massacre" Urban Legend being told by random students in some random university. The fact that "Brenda" is there at the end means 2 things 1 - Her name is not Brenda And 2 - She did killed all of them, no one survived (except for Reese, but she never saw face of the killer) and no one ever found out who the Pendleton Killer was. She totally murdered everyone and got away with it. And also as she says "Let me tell you how the story REALLY goes" there at the end - shows that what we saw is not true at all. Only "Brenda" knows what really happened but the movie ends before she can tell us, because we are not supposed to know the truth, only the URBAN LEGEND. Alanda, please watch Urban Legends - Final cut. Loretta Devine also shines in that one!!!
Yep. IIRC Reese states in the sequel that eight students were killed, however, we only see six students die in this movie. That means that "Brenda" actually killed Natalie and Paul and probably got away with it.
@@CoriolanusSnowden yeah, I only noticed because I rewatched the first two films back to back. Eight people died in the first movie, but only six of them were students. Either Paul and Natalie died or this was a mistake from the writers' part.
15:07 This death was always so messed up: I’m over here *fighting for my life* & my roommate thinks I’m merely having carnal relations! What a way to go 🤦🏾♂️🤣🎬
I've paused 5 minutes in to say loving the reaction so far. Of all the Scream copycats in the late 90's this is by far my favourite. You might not have recognised him, but that stuttering gas station attendant was played by Brad Dourif (Chucky), along with this also featuring Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger) and Danielle Harris (Jamie Lloyd from Halloween 4 and 5).
I honestly thought that Rebecca Gayheart (Brenda) played a PERFECT "Shattered Psycho". Just the perfect blend of camp and crazy. 😀 I also don't know if this was before your time, but before this, she was known as "The Noxzema Girl". She was in a commercial for the cold cream sometime in the early 90s. There was even a joke thrown in toward the end, but may have been edited out in some versions where one of the students listening to the story says: "Yeah, and Brenda was that girl from that commercial." Revisiting this now, I'm just now realizing how star-studded this film was, even if some of them hadn't achieved fame yet. 😳 Michael Rosenbaum (Frat Boy Parker) was the real surprise looking back. He went on to play Lex Luthor in "Smallville". He's hard to recognize when he has hair. And I am still wondering if you recognized Mr. Wexler as Robert Englund, a.k.a. Freddy Krueger. 😉 This was the first film I'd seen him in outside of the Nightmare on Elm Street series and it was a bit jarring seeing what he really looked like without all the burn makeup. 😀 Oh! And that creepy janitor? Julian Richings. He went on to play Death himself in the TV series "Supernatural".
I feel like Rebecca Gayheart carried this film on her back- she's sweet playing second fiddle to Natalie, but when all is revealed and we know she's the killer, she completely lets loose and is clearly having so much fun playing Brenda as an unhinged lunatic bent on revenge. It's so over the top that it's perfect and I think she is so underrated.
That was really shitty of them to just leave Loretta laying on the floor bleeding out, call an ambulance from some phone on campus and then get in his car an leave. WTF! At least stay there until the medics arrive. I mean Damn! Btw... Personal opinion.. Rebecca Gayheart was absolutely the most beautiful woman alive in the 90s. ❤️ And she has aged nicely
This movie had so many famous actors in it. Loved it, from Danielle Harris to Freddy Krueger as the teacher to Lex Luthor, Morbius & Pacey as the friends & Loretta as security.
The Richard Gere gerbil rumor was really rampant in pop culture back then, but it was appropriate for it to show up as a joke in this movie because it was an urban legend itself
This movie got me turned on to urban legends and I sought them out after watching this. My favorite urban legend that didn't make it into this movie (but did make it into the sequel) was of the woman whose dog would lick her hand in the night. She keeps waking up to the sound of dripping, but when she reaches out her hand, her trusty dog would lick her hand and reassure her. She wakes up again and hears the dripping. She stretches out her hand for the dog, and again he begins licking. She then strains her eyes to see in the dark toward the bathroom door, where the dripping is coming from. That's when her sleepy eyes finally make out the form of her sweet dog hanging in the doorway, dead, gutted, blood drip drip dripping. Turning her head, she saw the man's face licking her hand.
Yes! I remember this myth. This one and the myth about the young girl who hears her mother's voice so she goes to see what her mom wants only to be snatched in a room by her mom who tells her "I heard it too, it wasn't me." Those two got when I first read them.
Brad Dourif (the petrol station guy) is not only best known for voicing Chucky, but was also nominated in the Best Supporting Actor Oscar category for his portrayal of Billy Bibbit in the psychological horror drama, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, whose character also happened to come with a speech impediment.
Love this movie and actually like the sequel Urban Legend: Final Cut. This one is crazy underrated. It kind of slipped under the radar for horror movies at the time.
I’m so bummed the second wasn’t bad but the original concept is very intriguing! One thing I remember was the beginning was going to have a VERY different mood and opening song to set the film with. Check out the vids on it on RU-vid.. after watching for new viewers :)
I was going to mention this one, since she mentioned at the beginning that the movie wasn't a series. There was also "Urban Legends: Bloody Mary" which takes a completely supernatural turn
Nobody, and I mean nobody, can make me look forward to rewatching bad (in a good way), cheesy, horror flicks more than Alanda. Can't wait to see this one.
You would probably also enjoy ‘The Faculty’ but on a side note- Reese the Security Guard is the best character of this movie and I love how quickly you noticed. Their is one sequel that’s worth watching for certain reasons alone of which I will not spoil. Other than that some of the cast in the 2nd one are enjoyable. Have a great day.
Omg, you're so right If you liked Urban Legends than The Faculty just might be up your alley. I genuinely like both and they're different enough that it doesn't feel like the same movie.
The faculty is one of the most underrated teen flicks of all time. There's a dope video on RU-vid that pretty much breaks down why it wasn't as successful as it probably should've been. Believe it or not, if they got the right people to do it I think either a remake film or Netflix miniseries could be really dope, even bring the same director (Robert Rodriguez) in on the project...
Fun fact. The role of Sasha was offered to Sarah Michelle Gellar. Jodi Lyn O’keefe also turned the role down to appear in another Halloween that I’m excited to watch you react to!!
I believe the custodian/janitor guy played Death in Supernatural?! Love how you remember her as paula from Walking Dead 😂 I think the reason we all have a fun time with these type of movies is that they're atleast somewhat predictable so it takes the genuine scariness away to let us relax and have little spooks here and there that arent so bad
One of my favorite 90s slashers! So very meta- when things seem farfetched or like the coincidences are too convenient- we can remember that we aren't seeing the ACTUAL events (as Rebecca Gayheart says in the end, because she's going to tell how it "really happened"), but the feverish rantings of a college kid retelling an outlandish story (I also prefer this line of thinking because then I can tell myself they didn't really pierce Hootie's nose or force him to drink beer or kill him in the microwave, for that matter). Everything seems so over the top as to be almost unbelievable because it's another URBAN LEGEND some kid is telling, in the end. I LOVE THIS MOVIE.
First time watching... that there's someone on the back seat moment, sent chills down my back. I rarely react to movies like that, but the thought of it. Glad I don't drive, hard to hide in the back seat of a bicycle.
The backseat thing traumatized me when I seen it. I still look in my back seat to this day 💯😅 Just watched this again yesterday as they have it on Hulu I believe. I love Robert England & Danielle's cameo. We used to do Bloody Mary & Candy man in the mirror as kids
I watched this just this afternoon myself. One of my favorites of the 90s. Great story, cool deaths, and it was my introduction to the amazing Miss Devine.
Your style is ALWAYS on point! I love your hair, every time I watch a reaction it amazes me how cool you are :) Thanks for the content Alanda, best reactor on RU-vid!
My goodness, Miss Alanda. I haven't thought about this one in years. I saw this in the theatres when I was in college with, I might add, the girl that would become my future wife of twenty years. Decent film. Great date. Not our first date, but wonderful nonetheless. I hope you all have a wonderful evening/time zone.
This is my absolute favorite 90’s horror movie because it’s so many horror icons in it. Brad Dourif was the gas station attendant. Danielle Harris is the roommate. Robert Englund as the professor. This cast was absolutely stacked, and Rebecca Gayheart’s over the top campy killer reveal just did it for me.
I’m surprised Joshua Jackson’s career took off compared to the other Mighty Ducks, but he’s great in everything. Another great movie for star power comparison is “The Skulls”. Seeing Joshua Jackson and Paul Walker paired with each other is impressive.
Whenever I watch Urban Legend, I watch the movie called Cherry Falls with Britney Murphy. Now that movie is really crazy! You have to react to the movie sis 😊
This was so worth the wait for me. Urban Legend was one of my favorites in high school when it came out. Another good one to check out for your channel is Valentine. It had David Boreanaz, Denise Richards, Marley Shelton and was another good/campy slasher from that era! Keep the vids coming, Miss Alanda! You’re a treasure! 💚✌️
I still remember watching this in the early 2000's with my cousins when we were kids and being shook at the ending lmao. So excited for your reaction. 💕 Btw the sequel is worth watching too! Edit: I love that you called out all my faves in the first minute (Joshua Jackson, Loretta Divine, Danielle Harris.) Taste. 😅
Loretta Devine and the guy who plays the janitor, Julian Richings, both play characters in Supernatural. Loretta played a psychic named Missouri Moseley, and Julian played Death.
I enjoy all your react videos! They literally make me crack up! A couple I would love for you to cover would be Deep Blue Sea, Wrong Turn, Valentine, The Descent, and The Final Girls :)
When I was 8 my mom was watching this…she was young when this came out. When I saw the scene when the guy said “there’s someone in the back seat!” It scared me and I never watched it until months ago when I was 18😭😭😭
Loved waking up to this today! Urban Legend is one of my faves to watch. Would love to see you react to The Faculty, Jawbreaker (not horror but something to give you a break if the horror gets too intense one day), The Rage: Carrie 2 (some people love it, others hate it. I think it's a great movie that didn't need to be tied to Carrie).
I have never been more excited for a RU-vid video in my life.... Alanda, this is top 5 favorite movies for me. Very underrated. I am so glad you reacted to this one.
The best part of these movies are the early STACKED casting 😭 I just got my roomie to watch this one and the slashers are ittttt 😍😍 the sequel to be coming in good time ??
Alanda, you magnificent queen, when are you going to react to Cabin In the Woods? It's such an amazing take on the horror genre with such a unique and shocking twist. It's got Chris Hemsworth, Jesse Williams (sadly, not in ALL his glory), and a few other surprise cast members. Also, it's written and produced by Joss Whedon... before the creepy stories came out.
What a fantastic reaction!! I expect nothing less because every single one of your reactions is PLATINUM level entertainment! So many moments during this video that I actually lol’d 😂😂😂 I have to upload some clips on Twitter, so that those who haven’t found you yet can see exactly why we all love you so much!!
"And all you got is probation !? Damn white privilege" that did it for me. I am on the floor laughing my ass out hahahahaahhaha PS I started watching your content a few days ago. You are a terrific content creator! Your reactions and your thoughts are so on the spot and funny and just perfect! I watched the Halloween franchisee through your videos and having a blast doing it! That was the best way for me to watch it all Thanks for what you do is what I am trying to say !!!
Love ur channel!! I love the post-Scream slasher era that happened during the late 90s and early 2000s. You should definitely get to Urban Legend: Final Cut, The Faculty, Bride of Chucky, Halloween H20, Jason X, and Cherry Falls starring THEE Brittany Murphy next!!
The custodian around 17:40 is the actor who played death in the show supernatural. My personal favorite rendition of the character death and introduction to a character in any cinema. The scene is worth a watch if that’s something you’re curious about. He captured the essence perfectly.
would love to see your reactions to X (2022), bride of Chucky, showgirls, prom night (1980), slumber party massacre (1982) and drop dead gorgeous (1999) much love from Australia
Loved that you reacted to it i loved it when i was a kid I used to remember all the lines ahah and also can’t wait for you to react to the second movie. Also those coats were popular with the faux fur hoodie in France 14 years ago ahah . 😘 🇫🇷 💗
Alanda, I am so thrilled you watched this movie. The movie had such an unique theme, killings centered around urban legends. The ending had a great twist.
I can’t wait to watch this once i see the movie🖤 but Alanda you gotta check out some David Cronenberg films!! like “The Fly” and “Videodrome” !! he’s an essential horror filmmaker
2 things you can always count on with an Alanda reaction, a laugh and a LEWK🔥👏🏿🔥👏🏿🔥 Also if for any other reason than to see Loretta again(with the addition of Anthony Anderson, Eva Mendes, and the lead from Once Upon A Time) you definitely have to do the sequel
I liked this more than the Friday movies you’ve been watching. We get a better sense for the characters’ personalities (even if it’s superficial) and don’t just know them as people who want to have sex. The killer’s motive is also more interesting. It’s good to see a final girl not be paralyzed by fear every time she encounters the killer.
Great reaction as always! I have a suggestion for 'The Fog'. John Carpenter's follow-up to 'Halloween'? Jamie Lee Curtis and a lot of familiar faces in it. You'd love it I think.
I really enjoyed your reaction to this. It's so fun seeing someone react to 90's horror and vibing with it. I remember when I first watched this movie in the 90's with my friend. She was excited to show me the movie because I love horror, but I ruined it for her because I kept guessing what was going to happen. She kept asking me if I had actually seen it before. lol. I think you definitely need to watch "The Faculty" next. It is an excellent sci-fi/horror flick with lots of 90's style!
So glad that you reacted to this movie Alanda. It's one of my favourites. I hope you'll be reacting to the sequel, Urban Legend: Final Cut, soon. That one's pretty good too.
I’m so happy you loved this one! It’s so fun! Can’t wait for more 90’s slashers! Don’t know if they’ve been recommended, but I can’t exaggerate enough that you need to watch The Faculty and I CANNOT WAIT for you to get to Halloween H20! 🔥
As someone who has worked in the custodial community, my I say how badly I'd like to see the return of the, "Wise, middle aged janitor"! Creepy is so 90s, lol!
Now can we get Happy Death Day for another horror movie and “To Wong Foo” for Pride Month… or just lots of LGBTQ+ movies in June for Pride month in general. But… to wong foo for sure. Lol. You are my favorite reactor ever.
