I'm glad behind the camera there was a very strong, but very casual point made of, "Well what's the difference if you teach your kid how to clean properly?" Because it seems like quite a few of these parents needed to hear that from someone who wasn't immediately within their social circle.

So interesting that they’re all pro-circumcision, when in the UK/Ireland it’s not common at all (unless for religious reasons)! Kinda fascinated by how that societal expectation and notion that “uncut = dirty/hard to maintain” developed in the US but not so much elsewhere 🤷‍♀️

American here 👋🏼 married to an uncircumcised man and have two uncircumcised sons 2 and 3. We have never had any problems with hygiene and as a matter of fact we aren’t even supposed to pull back the foreskin to clean until they’re 6 years old. The real reason all of these people are circumcising their children is because of tradition and because most likely they knew some uncircumcised boy growing who got bullied for it. I remember growing up hearing about how it was gross ugly and uncleanly if a guy was uncircumcised. As soon as I met my husband I realized all of that misinformation is bullshit and thought there is absolutely nothing gross about his penis. Make informed decisions and don’t mutilate your child’s genitals because society thinks it’s “gross” or because you think it’s hard to clean.

Happy to see people in the comments on the same page about the disturbing pro-circumcision sentiment throughout the video. As an American, so weird to me to see people justify a cosmetic procedure on their child on such a self-serving basis.

In Europe it's not common at all to be circumcised, except for religious reasons of course. I don't think it's even a conversation for people (except for Jewish people and other religions obv)

Please do this with international people. It's only really American's and certain religions. Really uncommon elsewhere in the world. I've never even slept with a guy who was circumcised, and my partner and all my sons are intact and noone has any issues.

I didn’t get my son circumcised because we feel that should be up to him. I didn’t want to alter his body without his consent. It was made that way for a reason. He knows how to clean himself and there are no issues.

If you think it’s too much work to teach a child how to clean themself you should probably don’t be a parent at all. And what happened to my body, my choice? All boys and girls deserve the right to decide what happens with their body.

Strange to say that you don’t want to teach them how to clean their genitals. That’s one of the joys of parenthood, teaching them, like basic hygiene.

I just had my son and chose not to circumcise. My husband isn’t circumcised either. In my opinion circumcision is mostly cosmetic and I view it as mutilation but that’s just me.

What strikes me in this video is not that they all are for a circumcision... It's the fact how uninformed they are about this topic, yet so confident in their desicion.

It's just absolutely buckwild how prevalent circumcision seems to be in the US, like, it honestly makes me kind of uncomfortable to think of making a newborn go through a medical procedure when there's no actual medical need for it, and how so many people seem to go for it without any research or reading about it or anything, it is very weird.

This is the equivalent to how men's expectation on how a coochie should look like is toxic but reversed. Idk I could be wrong about this. I just find it hypocritical to instill society's expectations on what a body part should look like when it comes to the male member, but also be pro women's body positivity. (Assuming she's pro women's body positivity.)

I'm American and I find circumcision to be low key disturbing, especially when new generations of parents continue to choose it simply because the father is circumcised or it's what most people do. The prospect of elective surgery on a newborn to change something about their body is just wild. As a parent, I would never agree to it. I would challenge the woman who said that she'd been with uncircumcised partners and "didn't like it" to ask herself why. Because it was unfamiliar and therefore somehow scary? We Americans have enough problems with immediately rejecting and pushing away what we don't understand and I'd encourage everyone to examine those thoughts to see what might be behind them.

Cutting off the labia majora should be normalized, as it reduces vagma (vaginal smegma) and also reduces STI rates since there's less bacteria buildup. It doesn't serve any actual purpose and is just cosmetic so why not? ^^This is exactly what pro circumcision people say

I don't know why people think it's so hard to clean. I do it every day when I shower and it takes like 5 seconds. have no issue whatsoever.

I'm uncircumcized and it is extremely difficult to get "smegma", at least for me. You just need to shower at least once a week and not be disgusting.

Just throwing it out there also, labia have more folds and collects more smegma than a foreskin does. I'm pretty sure us vulva owners manage to keep them clean without discussion of cutting our labia off?

We are having a baby boy in a couple weeks, and we are NOT circumcising him. For the record, I was circumcised at birth, and I wish that decision had been mine to make. What I like most about this video is that it shows how under-informed the general public seems to be (my wife and I had to do our own research too…imagine if we’d have just operated in default mode). There needs to be real information given to people to make a decision…including the concept of giving their child the decision (deferred). Lastly, being circumcised, I never had to learn that kind of care and hygiene, but I’m not allowing that to be a deterrent for me to respect my son’s dignity and autonomy in a way that was not afforded to me. I will choose to learn so that I can help and teach him.

I’m a non-circumcised European and I find it so weird how circumcision is common in America. I put no particular care in cleaning my penis (I just shower once a day) and it’s as clean as it can be.

Imagine if we just cut off baby's ears because they look weird and aren't necessary to hear. "You have to teach them how to clean behind their ears, and I just don't want to deal with that"

I’m circumcised, and it wasn’t my choice. When my fiancé and I first started discussing kids, I firmly told her that there is no way in hell our sons will be circumcised (unless they’re one of those extremely rare cases where it is of medical necessity). She gave me some kick back because of the societal norms that’s been cultivated over the last century or so. We had a productive conversation about it and now she agrees with me that it’s wrong.

Aside from cultural and religious reasons, circumcision is rare outside the US. It was initially popularized in the US to curb masturbation by doctors including Dr. Kellogg the cereal guy! I think it’s disturbing that the question of ethics isn’t even brought up

This hurts to hear. As an adult that was circumcised as a baby, I wish I had the choice. It can always be done later in life if necessary, but I can't get that skin back. I really hope they end up thinking about the kid as opposed to their own thoughts on this.

I’m not sure why a lot of people are like “Ill let my man decide”. You can’t decide if you want to mutilate your child or not? My husband wanted to circumcise our son because he’s circumcised but I advocated for my son and we ultimately decided not to. Research shows that there is little to no benefit for most cases. I wouldn’t advocate genital mutilation unless it was for medical reasons. In Canada it’s becoming more of the norm not to circumcise, so you’re either just too lazy to teach your children proper gentian hygiene or you’re basically saying your child isn’t perfect and doing it for cosmetic purposes. Your wouldn’t mutilate your daughters genitals, why would you do it to your son?

That's so...weird. I'm from south america and this is not common at all around here. Hygiene it's not a problem cause we take a lot of showers. I've really never understood why people always assume that having foreskin = being dirty. Unless you don't clean it, being uncut doesn't make you dirty

American here. Husband is circumcised and we made decision not to mutilate our baby boy due in April just because its the norm in America. If he chooses to have the procedure done when he gets older we’ll fully support him.

Please watch “elephant in the hospital” My son’s dad isn’t circumcised but I decided absolutely against genital mutilation for my child. It’s a very personal decision that I shouldn’t be making for him… if he decides he wants to get circumcised when he is old enough to make the decision, I would 100% support him. I’m his mom but that doesn’t give me the right to make that decision for him. (I’m a 31 year old woman from California for reference lol)

i’ve been with men who were circumcised and some who were not. sex was pleasurable with all of them. them being circumcised or not didn’t make a significant or even noticeable difference in the sex. them knowing how to have sex makes the difference. edit: 3:35 the reason i made this comment is because having sex with uncircumcised men was talked about in the video.

Next time you find out someone is having a baby boy, remind them to research it (I wish someone had told me to when I was pregnant). Have these parents also discussed whether or not they're going to cut off their baby's nose because it might have boogers sometimes? Most men on earth are not circumcised and they seem to manage life just fine. I'm circumcised and really wish I hadn't had my body irreversibly altered without my consent because my parents thought it was more "normal".

My entire thing is that it should be the child's choice. It's not like you CANT get circumcised when you're an adult. It is a body modification that should be left to the person to make a decision on.

This is super interesting to me because Im British but then moved to the USA. I'd say almost every man in the UK is not circumcised, whereas its the opposite here in the USA. Definitely strange to hear it so normalized and the reason simply being because they don't want to have to clean it quite as well? I think it's odd that so many people want to go the natural route and would never alter their daughters genitals as newborns but will do so for their sons. I had a son and left him intact. I felt it was wrong of me to teach my daughter she's perfect the way she is and there's no need to alter her body to fit societies opinion But instantly do something to change my son. We will teach him proper hygiene and how to take care of himself the same as we will my daughter.

Black mom with a black baby boy (4 yr old) and pregnant with another - I was adamant about my son *not* being circumcised; his body, his choice. Not the norm but who cares, really. And I anticipate to "persuade" the father of the infant-to-be (if need be) to let the brothers (my kid and his brother) have that in common; as in terms of their penises, it (obviously, lol) may continue to remain "them against the world".

This was very disappointing to watch, but I see a lot of comments actually against circumcision which I think is great in my opinion. Just sad how a child is forced to circumcision when they have no say what happens to them 😔. I can tell you right now there is nothing wrong with my partners skin and I actually love it. I've seen circumcisions and I hate it and everything about it. I hate that parents don't seem to think about it or research it when it's a pretty big deal, you're permanently altering your tiny helpless baby's genitals. And it's horrible to watch, too. They do a nerve block but it doesn't always take. I've seen a circumcision where the baby was quiet throughout the procedure and one where the baby could DEFINITELY feel it, he cried and flailed his arms whenever they would pull, jab, forcibly separate, or cut his foreskin. The doctor just ignored his wailing, chatting with the nurse about unrelated things, and kept going. It was horrible to watch. I was a nursing student, and I stroked his tiny cheek and dripped sugar water from a dropper into his mouth to try to comfort him. Please, please do your research and have a very good reason if you're planning on putting your baby through that. The long term effects are mostly that sex as an adult is less pleasurable because the nerves are duller from not being protected by the foreskin. Please don't just go with the herd on this one, make sure you know what you're doing.

Being Canadian, I'm always astonished of "the norm" to circumcise in the US - it spills over to Canada too, but not to the extent - and its still very much frowned upon. Yet genital mutilation, which circumcision is, on girls isn't OK and pretty socially accepted not to be OK. Doesn't matter the gender, genital mutilation is genital mutilation. Circumcision at birth is not consensual - leave intact, and if they (THE CHILD) want to get circumcisions later in life, then they're consenting to it

I watched a circumcision being performed in nursing school, I would NOT have that done on my child. The screams that baby let out were nothing like I heard before.

I'm very surprised by this video, I live in Switzerland and I can say than in my country and other countries like France it's really not common to circumcise a baby, it's mostly done for some religious beliefs, but it's really a minority of people. So if you're uncircumcised please don't feel insecure about it because that's the normality here and I've never heard a woman having a preference about this.

I gave birth to my boy 5 months ago no doctor or nurse told me that I should have him circumcised and this indicated to me that there is no urgency of doing it. He was born this way and will remain like this until he makes his own decision in the future.

My hubby doesn’t want to snip him bc he feels like when our son gets older and everything, he won’t feel as much pleasure as he could uncircumcised
