I worked in a nursing home for a short time and had a residents family member come in wanting to remove his mother’s gold teeth shortly after she passed. She had several. Our administrator had to step in and thankfully they absolutely would not allow it. We even had to get law enforcement involved. What a sicko.
How sad. I can't even imagine being so greedy that you're trying to price out the items contained in your loved one. That's almost looting at that point!
It may not always be about greed. Perhaps their loved one had no insurance or savings to pay for their expenses & maybe the family didn’t either. So they’re drawing from any perceived resources to cover the funeral expenses.
Many decades ago I bought a wedding ring for about $300. The marriage ended at nine years and I took the ring to get some money from it. $20 was the worth even though the price of gold was up. It seems that the cost of the dental gold is in the measuring, fitting and installing rather than the gold itself.
Kari, Morticians do take the gold out of the mouths of the dead. They just pull the tooth out. Here is a true story about when I met a couple of guys that worked at a hospital in the morgue in Milwaukee Wisconsin. One of the guys told me that he took the gold from the mouth of a body and then showed me a glass bottle in his locker with lots of teeth with gold attached to them . He said better that he get the gold out than the mortician .
