What a self aware and honest guy. Something that seems rare in Hollywood. He was a great writer.

Amazing! I have no interest in writing a screenplay but I found his two books on writing screenplays absolutely fascinating.

Out of curiosity, what made you pick up the books?

@@baylee8659It may seem weird, but I’m a huge fan of the NBA and so was Goldman. While I read a good deal of books on cinema from my local library, I actually heard about his screen writing books from a sports podcast that also delves into pop culture. My state’s library network is great so, while they weren’t available in my rural county, they were able to borrow them from other libraries across my state.

@@revjim77 wow that’s neat! I’ve never heard of libraries having connections across states

@@revjim77 Me too. Love movies and love the history of movies but it was a sports podcast that led me to his books.

@@dlmj8181 I assume it was Bill Simmon’s podcast.

A living, breathing, and thank God talking example of what is good, right, and intelligent in this (can be) wonderful art business.

One of my biggest inspirations and influences. He's from a town next to where I grew up.

"Her dress is on fire!" He writes the script, it happens during the take, and he reacts by yelling that. Hilarious.

In his biopic he'll be played by Alan Arkin.

LOVE 'Soldier in the Rain.' Wonderful novel. How could he have not liked that? Amazing.

Odd, I missed him mentioning that. (I can hear the Mancini theme in my head, never on a soundtrack, only on a collection of tracks including Touch Of Evil...

I whole-heartedly disagree. All the President's Men was brilliant. I can remember being fascinated watching the hearings on TV...i was 10 years old and glued to the TV that whole summer. Yeah, i was an odd kid. I was 12 when the movie was released. I made my mother take me to see it, because i wasn't old enough to see it on my own. I think she was only interested in Robert Redford to be honest, because she had no interest in the Watergate events. Even at 12 I thought it was brilliant and i still do to this day.
