@@Chazd1949Turek has a propensity for lyjng about scientific subjects he can't fit neatly into his fundamentalist views and a tenancy to plant questioners in his audience to give the illusion of being prepared for questions. WLC rarely does the former and to my knowledge never has done the latter. Plus their educations just can't be compared. Turek's doctorate is from a tiny Seminary founded in 1992 and didn't require a dissertation, it's more like a license to minister. Okay, we've already agreed that Turek has one doctorate and Craig has two and therefore is the better educated, so why beat a dead horse by further trashing Turek based on the seminary he graduated from and his fundamentalist views? (And how do you know he didn't write a dissertation?) More importantly, you effectively avoided answering the question about honesty by making another vague accusation without giving any examples of his "lying about scientific subjects." How He created a planet, mashing together chemicals and minerals and all the stuff we need to support life as we know it is way above my pay grade. I am simply happy that He did. I know that wood burns, some wood burns better than others, I will cook my dinner to night burning oak. I really have no need to understand the oxydization processes involved in burning wood, nor do I need to understand the piezo crystal that created the spark that lit the paper that lit the wood, I only need to know how to get the oven hot, when to throw my dinner in it and when to pull it out, remembering always to give thanks to the God that made it all possible.

Someone needs to explain to me how we know the values of the constants of the universe are all equally likely and do not follow a Gaussian distribution (like almost everything else in the universe). IQ is a combination of many variables too and ranges from 5-195 yet something like 70% of all people range in the middle 10 points. This is independent of the amount of people. With a sample size of 1 universe. How do we know our universe is one of the extremely rare IQ numbers and not in the middle. The odds it is one of the middle once is by definition much higher. We see the same in nonbiological physics. Add 2 dice rolls and the range is 2-12 yet the chance you roll 7 is much higher (1/6) than 2 or 12 (1/36).
@tylonmcswain9431
@tylonmcswain9431 5 месяцев назад
Forgive me if I misunderstand your question, I am more of a Christian philosopher than a mathematician but I'll take a stab at it. From my understanding, the means you describe could exist for the constants observed which support the fine-tuning argument. However, the "seemingly" arbitrary values any of these observed effects "could have been" are numbers. Since they are numbers, they could have been anywhere from what the constant is, all the way to infinity. (I am not assuming they actually could have infinite values or even whole numbers for some of them, not if you want a universe to exist, but I'm just saying the set of possible values for the constants is huge.) This is a very reductionistic way to put it, but take the dice roll illustration you used. Yes, the middle rolls are more likely. Now imagine you had a 100-million-sided die. On that dice, what are the chances that you roll a 3 on that 100-million-sided dice? The observations the fine-tuning arguments rely on are something like rolling 3's all the time somehow. They are not Gaussian averages for what that constant is, they are all extremely unlikely to be the values they are to allow a universe at all, not to mention life in our universe. For the purposes of the fine-tuning argument, sure it could have been chance, but it is way, way easier, and more likely, an extremely powerful uber intelligent someone did this on purpose. I think that someone is the God who reveals Himself in the Christian bible.
@aidanya1336
@aidanya1336 5 месяцев назад
@@tylonmcswain9431 Thanks, you are the first to reply when i asked this question in several places. Questions i still have are some of the assumptions that are being made. 1) How do you know there are millions of options? I fail to see how anyone could know such a thing. This was part of my question. But think of the billions of cells that have to work together to create a person, the millions of events happening in your body every second. Yet this IQ range is still the result at least 70% of the time. 2) Why do you think it is way easier for it to have been done with a extremely powerful uber intelligent someone? This in itself requires an explanation that goes outside anything we know is possible. A low probability event (i don't think it was that) lies within what we know is possible and while our intuition might not say so, is less costly ontologically speaking. Lastly Water could boil at any temperature, but it doesn't it only does at one. Who is to say a universe would simply not come to fruition untill some requirements are met and when met it starts, this route we could have similarly tuned universes almost every single time.

We leave it where it belongs, in buildings that are not our homes. The only faith that can truly benefit society from the home, is adult couples can have their children without shame, guilt or regrets. Let’s teach our children to be productive members of society. Where the mothers of little babies and children aren’t leaning over them, with tears streaming down her cheeks, reminding herself and them, they are the final generation. It's also very unscientific, as we have not yet observed evidence that such is the case for the existence of a multiverse. It seems the very fact that the universe must meet certain specifications strongly suggests that God had no other choice but to design it this way, thus is bound by certain external restrictions and would therefore not be the grounding of all things, as theists believe. Furthermore, knowing that life only exists in the tiniest fraction of 0.0000000000000001% of the universe makes the fine-tuning argument quite silly. Imagine... on our planet, there is a gymnasium at an abandoned school in New Brunswick, and inside this abandoned gymnasium there is a basketball in the corner of the room, and inside this basketball lives a colony of flubdubbin garbage mites. If they go outside the basketball they will all suffocate and die. This is the only basketball in the entire world where these mites exist. Does it make sense to say that this planet is perfectly fine-tuned for flubdubbin garbage mites? This is what it sounds like when a creationist says the universe is fine-tuned for human life. Finally (as if there aren't enough holes in this argument ready) the very idea that the universe is fine-tuned says nothing other than... it is fine-tuned. Plugging in a god explanation to explain what we do not yet understand doesn't really have much explanatory power other than, god did it. It doesn't say anything about how it happened. There is no way to objectively verify this claim by testing, making predictions, and most importantly, it is unfalsifiable. If humans remained satisfied with the idea that Zeus threw down lightning from Olympus we never would have discovered electricity. Sometimes the most honest answer is "I don't know" because it gives us permission to explore and investigate what the real answer is. I'm almost 100% confident that the idea of an eternal disembodied mind such as a creator god has been effectively disproven by the very same standard that the creationists use to argue against an eternal universe. The general objection is that if you were to traverse the entirety of the existence of the universe over an infinite past, you would never arrive at today, because you'd always have an infinite time left to go. Wouldn't the mind of a god have thoughts? If you were to observe every thought an infinite being ever had, you would never arrive at the thought to create the universe. It seems the theistic philosophers have been destroyed with their own weapon.

I don’t believe it, but if black holes create new universes through big bangs, multiverse seems plausible. A black hole sucks in all matter into something smaller than a pin point. Eventually, it becomes too full and bursts. This is a “big bang”, taking all the matter sucked in over millennia and concentrating it until bursting out the other side. Theoretically.

To find God you have to search for the truth. To find God you have to know if what you are looking for exists. God is the intelligent creator of the universe. Do you want or don't want God to exist? It is better for you if God exists. For atheists death is the end, without knowing what happened and will happen. To find God you have to understand reality is eternal because from nothing can not be created something. Nothing is absence of existence. Nothing is what innocent and vulnerable children understand by nothing. Something minus something is nothing. Nothing is not something. Nothing is always nothing. Is something always something? Can something be destroyed to become nothingness for ever? Can something destroy self? From substance to eternal emptiness. We know reality is eternal. It's a fact. It's the truth. It's reality. Either the universe is eternal or what created the universe is eternal. Either what has a beginning of existence is eternal or what created what has a beginning of existence is eternal. Either the universe is eternal or God is eternal. You choose with free will. Do you want truth or deception? The truth is atheism is a logical fallacy that assumes God is the religious idea of the creator of the creation to conclude wrongly no creator exists because a particular idea of God doesn’t exist. To end the war the truth must be known.
