36:05 -37:10 was so brilliant. Craig : “I doubt this man’s tomb was empty!” Haha Craig always has the best way of dominating. So gentle but so witty. Ben was completely unable to answer it and dismisses that and any of there arguments for the historical Jesus. That being said, I truly respect Ben for having Craig on who disagrees with him and is very competent in defending Christ. Ben is extremely uncomfortable discussing Christ because he is very satisfied with the common ground he has with Christians. I believe it would be so difficult for him to actually consider these arguments given his entire family life and culture he was raised in. I applaud him for having the conversation and hope one day he will consider the historical arguments for Jesus. Craig is certainly the best person to plant the seed. Great conversation.
@onetwothree4148
@onetwothree4148 5 лет назад
I laughed at that too. If the Indian guru's tomb was excavated today, and reported to be empty, would you and Craig now believe the thousands of people who claim to have seen him raised from the dead? Of course not. You'd immediately recognize that it is far more plausible that someone lied, and these people are all mistaken.

Jesrael K Mani Good points. Skeptics (like James) and enemies (like the Apostle Paul (also an intellectual heavyweight)) claimed to have seen Jesus after his death, and sincerely believed that he had been raised from the dead. Also, prophecies provide even more substantiation to Jesus being the Jewish Messiah. Daniel 9:24-27 states that an anointed one (the Hebrew word “mashiach” is used, which means Messiah) must come before the destruction of the 2nd temple. Jesus fulfilled that. If Jesus did not fulfill that then nobody can because the Romans destroyed the temple in 70 AD. Isaiah 53 clearly describes Jesus as the Messiah. There are many more, but I particularly like those two.

I know a person who is not a vegan who said people are not more valuable/superior, than other animals. An when I pointed out, he doesn’t even believe his own view for he eats meat and therefore he eats other animals, he said lions eat other animals but that doesn’t mean lions are more superior than the animals they eat animals to survive, but that doesn’t mean lions are more valuable/superior to the animals they eat. He then said humans are not more valuable superior than other animals even if we eat them, and said to me if you say humans are more valuable/superior than animals because we can do things or make things animals can’t do or make and because we are more intelligent than other animals and we are on top of the food chain and implement our will on them and control/rule them you’re speaking just like the Nazis and using the logic the Nazis use to say they were more superior to the Jews because, they said Germans are more intelligent than Jews, Germans can make things Jews can’t make, and do things Jews can’t do, and Germans are on top of the social order and they can implement their will on Jews and rule over and control Jews, you're not much different from the Nazis he told me, you know what I can say to defend myself against him, and people like him?
@wawuglio
@wawuglio 5 лет назад
Benson Tan Humans are superior to animals because we are not animals. We are a species that is capable of understanding morality. Animals understand survival. That is the basis of all their behaviors. Hitler was motivated by his misguided sense of aryan superiority. A lion doesn't think it's superior to an elephant. It merely thinks that if it could somehow take an elephant down it will have enough meat yo survive a while longer.

Hint: It doesn't refer to the conception of Jesus. I'll let you do the research. You originally stated that Ben, as a Jew, is doing a "disservice to the Jewish community by not challenging Christian claims such as..." Since Ben is the one doing the questioning, from his perspective, there's no real reason to question the virgin birth, since Ben believes in a God with the exact same powers as the Christian God. Lastly, Craig is making arguments for the existence of the God of the Bible (as well as Jesus, of course). If you conclude that his arguments here are correct and that the God of the Bible does indeed exist and that Jesus did indeed come to earth as both fully God and fully man, there's no need to prove virgin birth, how those "mystical powers" led to miracles, and how resurrection would've occurred from a biological perspective (Craig already gives historical evidence for the resurrection of Jesus).

bloodbought 116 Thanks, so in Hebrews 7:27, 10:11-12&18, we're taught that Jesus is the final sin offering, and Romans 6:10 says that he died to sin once and for all. But in Ezekiel 45 (a prophecy which has yet to be fulfilled) we're told in verse 22 that the prince is to provide a bull as a sin offering for himself and for all the people of the land. Is Jesus the prince? If so, why would he need to provide a sin offering on behalf of his sinless self? Also, why would any sin offering need to take place if Jesus' death on the cross was the final sin offering?

@Chad Ellis The high priest was the only one that could enter the temple room of the Holy of Holies. He entered and pulled the veil behind him. This room was considered the closest to God in the temple and only the high priest could enter. He was to offer the bullock, without spot or blemish. Other people offered various other animals, depending, on basically, a position. Jesus, the Prince, The High Priest, offered Himself without spot or blemish. His own blood to God. That's the reason when Jesus died on cross, the veil was ripped in the temple. Jesus is now our only way to God, The Father, and the ultimate sacrifice To God.

@1928gerry That would never hapen, and would be a travesty and a tragedy. The covenant God made with the Jews is eternal. This is all over Deuteronomy. Ch 13 is very explicit. The life of Jesus has provided a view of the God of Abraham Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Sinai to billions. That does not mean his mission was to the Jews, nor does it mean that the mountains of christological thinking piled onto his life in the succeeding centuries is authentic. To draw a Jew away from the Covenant (God forbid) is to spit in God's eye. Jewish thinking is non exclusive. Normative Orthodox Judaism, and even more so the Conservative Reform etc movements, hold that anyone who cleaves to one God will find a place in the world to come. As a former atheist, I pretty much fell for all the common New Atheist slogans about religion. “There’s no evidence for the supernatural”, or “science has refuted God”, or whatever other stuff you read about in books like The God Delusion. There was a time when I was a major proponent of Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris and all them. But after encountering the rich, intellectual tradition within the Christian faith - People like Bill Craig and Ed Feser, both of whom Ben have had on - all these New Atheists began to look intellectually paltry in comparison; not to mention, they were all very angry. They’re arguments didn’t hold up, and they began to appear more like children in a temper than sincere seekers of truth. I’ve mentioned this in a previous comment, but I’ll say it again. The real debate is not between religion and atheism. The real debate is between religion 1 and religion 2, etc; between Judaism and Christianity and Islam, and so on; specifically, not over whether religion is true, but *which* religion is true. RU-vid conversations like these are only the beginning. If anybody here hasn’t read the published work of Dr. Craig - especially the Blackwell Companion to Natural Theology - I highly recommend doing so. Dr. Craig is scholarly, honest, and convincing. It might surprise him to hear that his work in large part lead me to the Catholic Faith, since he is not himself a Catholic. But still, I hold Dr. Craig in high regard as a philosopher and theologian, and value his contributions to the study of religion enormously. He changed my life.

I first became interested in natural theology, thinking that might help answer some of my questions, so books like the Blackwell Companion, which I mentioned, but then going back through all the classic theistic philosophers like Aquinas, Leibniz, Clarke, etc, and contemporaries like Lonergan, Feser, Stump, Adler, Craig, Spitzer, Pruss and so on. I'll also give a nod to C.S. Lewis. Though his work is more popular and accessible, he presents his arguments clearly, and so he opened me up to wanting to go deeper on the subject, even if he didn't immediately secure my conviction.

We were all brainwashed by the church and went ailing with it because we felt it was the ONLY and BEST choice to make but you're you're a good person without a God. Trust me, science is fact, and there is no such thing as a god. When a 100, 000 plus people died in a tsunami, did your god BURN THOSE INNOCENT PEOPLE IN HELL FIRE FOREVER FOR NOT BELIEVING IN CHRIST? WHAT GOD would do such a horrible thing? Its IGNORANT TO BELIEVE OR DEFEND SUCH NONSENSE. GET A GRIP.

My favorite part of Craig's argument, the mic drop moment, for me is 37:03 when he says: "I doubt this man's tomb is empty." (responding to argument that another Messianic figure has followers who claim he's still alive) 😁 BOOM! (Craig's smile is his confidence.) The best argument for Jesus's divinity is his resurrection from the dead because it proved he was Who he said he was! It's not just that He claimed to be Messiah, but that He ALSO claimed to be Son of Man prophesied by Daniel, and God vindicated him by His resurrection! The empty tomb is the validation. That POWER is in no other name but Jesus of Nazareth

*Question: Is William Lane Craig incompetent or dishonest?* That's an easy no for this double doctorate philosopher, and here's the proof: a ton of atheist philosophers and academics verify his brilliance. Here are examples: . . . In atheist philosopher Graham Oppy's "Arguing About Gods", Craig is cited 23 times in the references; more times than anyone save Oppy himself. He has a huge section in the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy dedicated to his KCA (about a 4th of the article on the cosmological argument). --- *DANIEL DENNETT* (Atheist Philosopher) - After he heard Craig speak, said _"That was a virtuoso job! A stunning amount of careful articulation and structure of some dauntingly difficult issues."_ --- *QUENTIN SMITH* (Atheist Philosopher) - On Time and Eternity, _“William Lane Craig is one the leading philosophers of religion and one of the leading philosophers of time…It is a rewarding experience to read through this brilliant and well-researched book by one of the most learned and creative thinkers of our era" _ _"a count of the articles in the philosophy journals shows that more articles have been published about Craig’s defense of the Kalam argument than have been published about any other philosopher’s contemporary formulation of an argument for God’s existence."_ --- *MICHAEL RUSE* (Agnostic Philosopher) - On his book debate with Walter Sinott Armstrong _"This is a wonderful exchange about the existence of God--fast, fair, informative, intelligent, sincere, and above all terrific fun." _ --- *KEITH PARSON* (Atheist Philosopher) - _“Having debated Craig twice face to face and once in print (in the Dallas Morning News,of all places, June 13, 1998) let me weigh in on Jeff [Jay Lowder]'s side. In these debates only once did I feel that Craig said anything that even sounded like a cheap shot. This was at the debate at Prestonwood Baptist Church near Dallas with 4500 people in attendance, about 4450 of whom were on Craig's side. Craig asked whether anything would convince me that he was right. I responded, as Norwood Russell Hanson did in "What I do not Believe" that some huge display that everyone would see would convince me. Earlier, I had rejected Craig's appeal to the "500" witnesses mentioned by Paul in I Corinthians XV and noted that mass hallucinations do sometimes occur. Craig then asked whether I would not also dismiss ANY display as a hallucination, prompting much braying laughter from the highly partisan audience. _ _Now whether Craig was intentionally playing to the audience or not, I don't know, but this was a legitimate question and I obviously had left myself open to the rejoinder. When the laughter died I explained...Craig had no response, so I think I took the point.” _ _“Now if you are looking for nasty, there are people like Steve Hays, Holding/Turkel, and Ed Feser. Ad hominem, character assassination, straw man, and vituperation are their stock-in-trade. I would not at all put Craig in their sleazy category.” _ --- *KEVIN SCHARP* (Atheist Philosopher) - _"In assessing his arguments, I will talk as I would to any other professional philosopher whose system I’ve managed to work my way into. That is, I don’t pull punches, but I also never attack character, so it isn’t personal. Professor Craig knows this; I know this; I’m saying it for the benefit of the audience. In part, because *I respect the guy.* He’s got some great philosophical skills, he’s a talented system builder, which I admire, and he’s done a tremendous service to the atheist movement by trouncing most of our heroes and raising the bar on both sides. [Audience laughter] I’m serious! That’s a major benefit, a major thing that we can say thank you for." _ --- *PETER MILICAN* (Atheist Philosopher) _"'The Cosmological Argument for Plato to Leibniz' - that's actually my own copy, dated 1980. I got it when I when studying the B Phil here [Oxford], studying philosophy of religion under Bazil Mitchell. And it was clear, even then, that Bill's book was a new landmark in the discussion of the cosmological argument."_ --- *DANIEL CAME* (Atheist Philosopher) _"Given that there isn't much in the way of serious argumentation in the New Atheists' dialectical arsenal, it should perhaps come as no surprise that Dawkins and Grayling aren't exactly queuing up to enter a public forum with an intellectually rigorous theist like Craig to have their views dissected and the inadequacy of their arguments exposed.'_ --- *LAWRENCE KRAUSS* (Atheist Physicist) At first we notice the very reason that Krauss went to Australia, and had the “discussions”, was to expose William Lane Craig as dishonest. In an interview before the event, he is asked the question, “What’s the point of debates like this?” Here is part of his reply: _“In this particular case, I also do it because I happen to think William Lane Craig abuses science and says many, many, many things that are not only disingenuous but untruthful, but recognizes that his audience won’t know that. So one of the reasons I like to do these, and certainly why I agreed to allow the first one to be videotaped, is to demonstrate explicitly examples of where he says things that he knows to be manifestly wrong, but also knows that the audience won’t have access to the information.” _ _But after more discussion with Craig, surprisingly Krauss changes his mind. He says, “I’ve listened to Dr. Craig over the days, and I’ve changed my opinion. I’m much more charitable. I came here convinced, based on my past interactions and his writings, that Dr. Craig is a dishonest charlatan. But I don’t believe that. I think Dr. Craig earnestly believes deeply, in the issues he is talking about -- so deeply, and as a man of great intelligence, he is convinced that there must be a reason" _ --- *CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS* (Atheist Journalist) - _“But I can tell you that my brothers and sisters and co-thinkers in the unbelieving community take him [Dr. Craig] very seriously. He’s thought of as a very tough guy -- very rigorous, very scholarly, very formidable. And I say that without reserve; I don’t say that because I’m here.” _ --- *JEFF JAY LOWDER* (Well known, Atheist Blogger) - _“As a freethinker, I think it’s important to follow the evidence wherever it leads and avoid sloppy thinking….I take the charge of dishonesty extremely seriously. Anyone who levels the accusation of dishonesty has the burden of proof, and they had better make sure they attempt to get the other person’s side of the story before publicly concluding that dishonesty is the best explanation. If Craig has been dishonest, I have yet to see any evidence of that.” _ _“A second allegation is that Craig is dishonest in his public debates because he uses arguments which he “knows” are false. Really? I do wonder how these people “know” what Craig thinks.” _ --- *JOHN W. LOFTUS* (Atheist Blogger with a Master’s in Theology, plus some PhD level study) - _“From personal knowledge my testimony is that Bill sincerely believes and is not being dishonest with himself. Unless someone knows him better than I do then my testimony should be taken seriously. He does not think he is wrong even though he is. This is emphatically not the case as much as some atheists would like to think. He is delusionally dead wrong. But he sincerely believes. I know him personally and have talked with him on several occasions even after deconverting.”_ . . . . So, who do you believe? RU-vid commenters opinions or professional atheist academics, who have a clear reason to say otherwise?

All one needs to know about WLC is, that this man had the privilege to talk to Hitchens, Sean Carroll, Roger Penrose and many more. The last two mentioned told him exactly why and based on what empirical evidence, he is wrong. Penrose was Stephen Hawkins Mentor, for most people that would be a good reason to listen and learn. What does he do? Still traveling around and selling his nonsense like he never had any of those conversations. Martin Stu even if your theory is true, which is not, then you too are worshipping your own ego. Which in turn led you to write the comment to begin with. Now, usually, a believer truly believes for a good reason. There’s some type of evidence; metaphysical, philosophical or a combination of these partnered with science. Then when a believer comes to belief they begin to search or seek out the creator and Christians specifically usually have to die to themselves, kill their ego, and submit to an understanding that isn’t their own. Now contrast that with you. You don’t believe, not because of evidence or even a lack of evidence. You simply don’t believe because you think you know better. You elevate your understanding over others’ and reduce their belief as a fantasy. Your ego is your god, one day your ego will perish and so will you. It will literally be non existent therefore closer to a fantasy than any religion could be. Meanwhile the Judeo Christian God maintains throughout the ages.

@@SilenceDogwood. well, if you like the WLC it is not really assuming now is it? I never saw much value in wokeness, and it is of course not something one can read up on. As it have turned into an empty conservative talking point, now meaning: "all the bad things the left does."

Dd S Dr Craig gave great reasons as to why he thinks god exists. If you have a problem with anything he said or would like to address them then say it instead of attacking him for his beliefs. He’s a great person and has a very likeable personality.

@Dd S Craig doesn’t stick his fingers in his ears and ignore objections, he takes them head on and gives counter arguments _(especially_ when it comes to the Kalam argument). He talks to and debates with physicists all the time. He’s not ignorant when it comes to physics or cosmology. And of corse just because something is theoretically true doesn’t make it actually true. But accepting theories that are likely and plausible is rational. Far more rational than just shooting down a likely theory because it might not be absolutely certainly true in reality. Really take the time to actually listen to Craig. He never states he can _prove_ the existence of God with 100% certainty, but he believes that available evidence makes it more likely that the existence of a God is true as opposed to the nonexistence of one. He has already addressed every objection you’ve listed at one time or another. He’s not a “con man,” “sophist,” or lair. If you want a con man, look at Peter Popoff or Robert Tilton. Listen to Craig with an open, unbiased mind and I’m sure you’ll find that he makes a lot of sense.

Dd S I’ve been listening to/reading Craig for years and I’ve _never_ heard the “well they just don’t want to bow to God” argument come from him. Either stop straw-manning or show me where he did this. He keeps giving the same arguments because no one is able to sufficiently beat them in debate. In every debate I’ve ever seen him in, his opponents misunderstand or misrepresent Craig’s argument. His opponents often have a lot of bravado and change subjects frequently during his debates. This can make it _look_ like Craig is losing, but when you weigh both sides equally, Craig usually comes out on top. Craig doesn’t say his arguments work because he says they work. They work based off their own merit. If you look at Craig’s arguments on their own and actually understand them, they become hard to object too. I’m sure you’ll disagree with this, but I don’t really want to talk you through every argument ranging from Kalam to the Moral, so I’d recommend taking a philosophy class, listening to his more in-depth lectures, or doing some self reflection.

I do not think there was an arguement, but rather a sincere part on both, Ben to ask questions and William on sincerely attempting to answer the questions. Ben was very gracious to have W.L.C. on his show and i think they both enjoyed this conversation. .ay more people Jew and Gentile come to God the Father and God's Kingdom.
