A stunning wintry walk in the footsteps of Sir William Wallace. He hid in the cave in the Glen before the Battle of Roslin in 1303 during the first war of independence. We also head along to Hawthornden castle shortly after. Once home to the Douglas family, now owned by the Heinz family

I'm just a Brtisih Mutt with just 1/8th Scots included, but I just love to follow these stories of rebellion & fierce battles - totally understand why you have to stand up for your lands else the powerful will happily remove you from them - it's the story of everywhere really. The scots have always seemed to me to be among the most proud of their ancient heritage ! Thank you for this great video, and a little glimpse into a piece of Scots history, that cave is amazing, how many different groups have spent time in there over thousands of years I wonder - has there been any archaeology done in that cave - Pictish symbols tell the story of one group right there as evidence - wonderful !

Terrific video. I spent a month as a writer in residence at this magnificent castle in September 2001 (the month the Twin Towers in New York were attacked. The castle and the surrounding area have a fascinating history and there are many interesting and beautiful walks. Deer, foxes and, of course, rabbits are commonly spotted. Oddly this area doesn’t attract many tourists but it is really worth visiting.

30 years ago there was a large tree across the river you could use as a bridge and it was an easy scramble up to the cave. there are a few caves under Hawthornden castle that are barred off with iron bars. idk if you were low enough to see them

Fantastic video! Funny some of the landscape reminds me of the countryside where I ride my horses in Tennessee! A few of those narrow ridges will leave you white knuckled when you’re on a horse! Ha ha. I absolutely loved the adventure into the cave. Fantastic!

Don't think Wallace was in there, it's a ice house, that side of the Glen was a foley, the garden have lots of walk ways you can still see in the winter, most of the markings were made as part of the gardens mystery. There is larger caverns under Hawthornden Castle, one was used as a pistol range.

@@FATLADINAKILT Wherever there's a legend, everyone wants to claim the source of said story - happens all over - then it becomes hard to discern what is the truth ! I was assuming this video was telling me the truth, but the comments have educated me to rethink that assumption - oh well !
