Thank you mark for presenting Scotland in an honourable truthful light! It makes me angry, sad and tearful we are here today fighting again for what should rightfully be ours. Wallace was a pure hero and must NEVER be forgotten or tarnished by those guilty of treason against us and stealing what is not theirs to have! God Bless You and Protect You 🏴
Lazy Daisy what are they taking ?? And who are they ? And why can't it be stopped ? You have no power,, no guns ?? No second amendment ? You truly are slaves ?? You poor shit heads you let it all be taken from you !!!!
his bod parts are supposed to be in Cambuskenneth abbey in Stirling where a stone points to where he watched the battle of Stirling bridge. His body parts where hung from Stirling bridge as a warning to others but in the dead of night was taken down by the monks of this abbey at great risk and buried so he did not go to purgatory.
one quarter of his torso was hung from a Gibbet in Stirling, another quarter in Perth, the third in Edinburgh, i forget where the fourth quarter was hung, maybe Carlisle and his head was left on a pike to rot on London Bridge.
Misty, windswept moors and the trench were William Wallace fought, where free Scotts fought, where men lived until they died. Here and there, here and there, here and there, mounds and the memories of mounds mark the bones of the fallen, nameless, mournless. Grass fills the low way, where the ice wind cannot touch it, tougher breeds struggle beyond. So beautiful and empty the sky, save for the lone goshawk, seeking the small, scurrying things in the goss. Things that burrow among those forgotten bones. Things of the high earth. There are none now, there were never many, who as Humans, would chose to live in this place, the wind does not like company. There are some who will never leave. What did they die for? What did they live for? They will tell you, if you listen well, "In the wind, in the wind, there is freedom in the wind and peace beneath the earth."
You would think historians would want to get to the bottom of Willam Wallace Ledgend. Surely everyone could come together and trace every historical event from the ledgend. Every battle, every letter sent, all of the infomation and do some archelogical digs and find out once an for all what is buried were.
August 23rd. 1305. Wallace murdered after a mock trial, Smith field, London. His head placed on a pike on London bridge. His limbs removed and put on public display at Newcastle, Berwick, Stirling and Perth. His spirit shall never die.
@@angeliapittman4776 It was a good film that got you relating to the characters, but it's Hollywood, and much of the content was fabricated, for instance, the Princess, would have been about 4 or five years old at the time, believe He was actually killed at what is Smithfield Meat market, [don't know what it was at the time]puzzling thing, that as a Scottish hero, why have His remains not been found?and reburied with honour?Everybody is entitled to have somebody in their History to be proud of,so lets not be unaware of what is an obvious fact!
Legand tell that wallaces torso displayed on Stirling Bridge as a warning to all was removed by the monks from cambuskenneth Abbey then the Monks buried Wallace inside the Abbey under a slab on the Abbey. That slab still there today has ( WW) CARVED ON IT.!!!????
Wallace's left arm and torso quarter is buried in the grounds of Cambuskenneth Abbey, Stirling, the Monks secretly removed the quarter from Stirling and buried it there, its marked with two long stones marked with two W's for William Wallace.
@ Peter ' Gohame ' wow what is it with you? .. you are pathetic its hilarious 🤣 your the ' crybaby' here you are making a fool of yourself! What age are you really? The ramblings of a sad , old , vile excuse of a man . Honestly do you not have anything better or productive with your time ?or can you not get out in the garden because you've pissed your trousers ? Or is it because your missus has had enough of listening to you talk shite? .. once again it seems you have a vendetta or agenda against us Scots ! Go and bark up another tree you sad pathetic wee man . Grow up! Also when you go to the toilet .. have a look to see if you still have a set of balls down there because I think you've got a wee fanny!!!
He was Scotlands, Alexander!! I enjoyed this, and adore your country! I'm American, with Greek roots! But always said, I was Scottish in my previous lives!! Wow, beautiful! ❤️
He was quartered which means that after they took his head off for display in London the rest of the body was quartered so he was cut in half at the waist and cut from the neck going down to the groin and each part was sent to a different area to be displayed and the reason that the head would have been sent to England obvious reasons they were fighting against England but also that if anybody questioned it about the parts belonging to Wallace it can go to England to see the actual head then it wouldn't be a question
As a Palestinian, we never never forget William Wallace because he is a symbol for everyone who wants freedom from slavery and occupation. We love William and we will follow his path.
Very emotional video, gives me the chills. I have always heard that William Wallace was dismembered and buried his body parts on different locations as of fear he would come back. Maybe someone has more info on this to sjare and clarify some of these stories. I have always thought that the English were very cowardly unlike the fighting spirit of a Scott. I am a Spaniard and can relate to oir ancestors taking over other people's lands by force, that is why i have always believed that Scottish people have inherited that brave fighting spirit from William Wallace.
I'm not saying that the English are not coragious but sadly thr Scottish people had to suffer and fight the English off to save their lands from invasion
@TarekusDecimusMaximusMeridius So c******y that THE UK fought f*****m single handedly while Spain was f*****t, Brits were there too fighting for freedom in YOUR civil war, where were you lot again during WW2? Stop getting your facts from films. The loser is always the victim. England (as it was) was cruel, you act like this wasn't the times people lived in. They also ignore that Scotland didn't exactly play nice, joining or supported most wars against England along with many other things but that's overlooked right. As an Englishman, I support ANYONE's right to resist someone coming into your country whoever that may be so have always been conflicted, angry or a*****d about many things my country did. For Scotland to think it will ever be independent or free of the United Kingdom's influence is like Portugal expecting the same from Spain, never gonna happen. You wanna talk about c******y.... Cortes?
I leave in a week for what I hope will be my first of many trips to Scotland , the birth place of my sir name. To say that I am excited would be an understatement!
Great video although wasnt keen on the music choice i was in berwick back in march this year and went to that castle had no clue william wallace was there well his arm atleast thanks for the information
@Jeff p a wee tip for ye ... up in the highlands there is a place called Applecross . Near there there is a a pass called ' ba lach na ba ' on a bright sunny day preferably ( hit or a miss in Scotland I know ) but you will not be disappointed my friend . Or the isle of Skye . There are too many beautiful places to visit but these two are my favourite .
some serious defense 'WALL' structures around there Mark, maybe the clues are letting the Cat out of the bag. I can see the tail, just need to find a Cat!
Since Wallace's body was dismembered during his execution and parts of his body scattered around the kingdom, theoretically there may be several of his"graves" in various parts of England and/or Scotland. This video is about one possible location in the great nation of Scotland and how its people honor their greatest national hero.
Any advice on finding Wallace’s Trench? I had a look at the area on google maps but couldn’t spot it, Would you say that you just keep following the drovers road until it’s in your view?
dmck go to pastmap.org.uk it’s a fantastic site. Then just follow the Minch moor old road from Yarrowford for about 3 miles and it’s quite prominent on the map. Think it connects the Minch moor road with the Southern Upland way. Ps I seen a couple of ospreys up there
@@MarkNicol123 My ancestors held Eileen Donan for quite some time. The McCreas, although spelling is definitely an issue and many spelled their names differently but my family kept track of all of those things. My oldest brother knew most about it and my youngest brother took his sons there a few years ago from the US so that they could learn the history as well. Sadly I didn't know my brothers for most of my life so I'm sure there is much about the family and Eileen Donan that I didn't get to hear about. I want very much to visit Scotland one day as I am so much Scottish in my heritage. Now, about your video sound: Every time you turn your head away from the camera the sound turns to shite. Getting good sound in such a video is definitely a problem for anyone which is why many people record a voice-over for the sound track - erase the sound from the film file and match the new audio tracks to the video file. It takes an extra few minutes (ok, maybe a couple of hours) but it is definitely worth it. I wanted to know everything you were saying but I missed out on quite a bit, sorry to say. Maybe you could get a microphone to work with your video camera? Just suggesting that it could be better though you do a nice job of getting around to interesting places and I appreciate the time and effort you put in. Many people love this subject including me, so thank you for making this video.
Mohawk yes I realise sound is poor in this one, it’s an ongoing problem I have getting the sound right, particularly if there is any wind. Might go down the route you suggest with a separate sound recorder in my pocket....but time is always tight for me. Thanks for watching and thanks for the tip!!
@@MarkNicol123 I have a 12 track board and can run anything into it for sound with a simple phone jack type of cord - it moves the possibilities into an entirely different world. More work but absolutely worth it. As time goes on you may find it would really improve your work greatly. I've never been sorry that I put the money into getting it and I looked online for quite a while until I found one that had been a 'demo' model in a music store which cut the price for me in half. Best of luck to you Mark - I'll sub to your channel and hopefully will see some more interesting vids. /|\
There are two places in scotland that claim to be the birth place of William Wallace, one in ayrshire and one is elderslie where I was born, there was also a tree in Port Glasgow, which has since died as it was blown down in a storm about 50 years ago, just in the past 2 weeks some guys created a little monument thing there which says that wallace was chained to the tree while waiting to be picked up by the english who where coming to collect him there and take him to london and his execution, total load of blarney of course, no evidence it ever happened that wallace was there, and the guys who created it have the brass neck to claim its true........................ some people just distort history to cling onto the coattails of people who where there and part of that history that these fools are distorting for their own ends Yes the little plaque has their photos on it, I know one of them as I did business with him, and all I can say about him is he is certainly what I call a nipple YES........................ A bit of a tit
Sorry guys but the capture of Wallace by the Earl of Mentieth was considered an act of Scottish Patriotism by the chroniclers and normal people of the time... People were sick of living in fear, sick of villages & towns being sacked, sick of war and they saw Wallace and his banned as the only Scots who wanted to keep on fighting.
Interesting theory that the “normal” people of Scotland were all happy under Edward I’s occupation and had all forgiven his acts of barbarity against the Scottish people like the sacking of Berwick. Does that mean that all the normal people thought Robert Bruce and James Douglas we’re traitors also?? Know where you are coming from certainly some would have been against Wallace’s actions but to say all the normal people were against him is madness. If everyone was against him why did the wars not stop after Wallace’s death?
Mark Nicol - the wars did stop (before Wallace’s death & after) when Bruce was driven into hiding (by Scots) - the sacking of Berwick lasted days and only stopped when a pregnant woman was disembowelled in front of Edward (would that not sicken you) Wallace is one of my hero’s Mark my front door opens to his monument in robroyston, but I think you’ve been caught up in todays form of “wallace hijacking”
On the contrary sir I think too many people today want to discredit Wallace from being the heroic freedom fighter that he may have been. The 100% true events of what happened 800 odd years ago will never be known to us. In my films I try to raise questions and provoke discussion I know I do not have all the answers too many people think they know exactly what happened almost a millennia ago. Whatever Wallace was during his life his profound effect on the Scottish people can never be denied.
Mark Nicol I enjoy your videos and wouldn’t want to take anything away from their passion for our history mate. But “the people who think they know exactly what happened a millennia ago” are called historians.
Wow! I really enjoyed this! I’m American but have ancestors from Scotland and have always wanted to see the Country. Thank you, Those views of the hillsides and below were Gorgeous! I have wondered many times where he might actually be but I guess with the way he was killed, it would be hard to pinpoint. I do believe you made a good case though. Amazing views of Scotland 🏴 ❤️
This was full of beautiful places, I mean truthfully Scotland is at the top when it comes to beauty! Here's what I need to know..I thought William Wallace was hung and quartered and the pieces sent to '4 corners of England ' - so how does he have 1 grave? If I'm wrong please tell me, I like the idea better of him resting peacefully in his beloved country but I don't believe that to be true! In any case, whatever the truth God Bless his soul.
Cindy Cox he was hung drawn and quartered and the pieces sent to 4 castles in Scotland as a warning to other Scotsmen. His right arm was sent to Berwick castle which I visit on this film. What I am saying is the place where his arm was buried in Berwick became revered and is the closest you will get to a grave.
You are adorable but your sound was muffled a lot! Especially when u turned your head. I couldn't understand most of the video. Any chance of a re-do as I'm an interested Wallace fam. I have a book on him but always looking for more on him.
Virginia Collis yeah made a bit of a mess on sound with this. Would like to re-donut some day but time is always against me. Have u seen any of my other Wallace films?
Enjoyed the visual locations, but the sound quality was a distraction. Put a wind buffer on your mic and keep the same volume of your voice constant during the commentary. Still...it was an enjoyable journey!
One Blues the Egyptian music doesn't fit rather have a very soft undertone but you can just kind of barely here playing the bagpipes but I have to admit your history lesson great thank you
Don't think anyone today Really KNOWS where most of ALL of Sir William Wallace's Body is buried, though the Left side of him is buried at an abbey in Scotland, no telling there the rest of him is, but seriously the Middle eastern Music is NOT the right music for this or any video concerning Sir William Wallace. Just stating a fact.
Sorry to say your sound level was too low. My family on my Scottish side left Scotland for Canada and later the U.S. around 1847. I'm still very much interested in Scotland. I want to visit my home in Ayr. God Bless Scotland always and forever!!
There were no remains his body was hung drawn and quartered and his remains what was left were hung in the 4 quarters of the British isles and please don’t use the rubbish in the film it was completely historically inaccurate
Husband Here: We are Stewarts of Raith and Innermeath We stood with William Wallace as Commander of the Scottish Archers during a battle we were cut down, but...but our men...those loyal souls, under our command continued to fight until every single one was cut down. It gave time for Wallace to escape. God Bless Scotland.

The man wasn't buried in just one location as he was hung drawn and quartered and his body cut into bits head boiled and shoved on a pike so unfortunately his remains are in several locations as for Wallace Green thats like us and the French we call the body of water between us and France the English canal they call it the sleave
It's very possible that William Wallace body parts were very different places after they were removed four corners of England and when he was removed they had to bury the body parts what was fast as possible
Incredibly fascinating stuff! But I couldn’t make out 50% of what he said because he’s whispering and/or turning his head away from the camera/microphone while he’s speaking 😞
Good video but you need a better microphone. Trying to hear your voice and to understand what you were saying was difficult most of the time. I’m good with accents, that wasn’t the problem. The audio of your voice would get loud and then quiet.
Patti Ondish I have Highland Cathedral playing at the conclusion where I surmise that Wallace’s arm was buried in Berwick. To have bagpipes playing all the way through would have distracted from this Scottish climax.
