The honesty of the mishap makes this a very respectable review. I find the "less than perfect" reassembly videos to be more helpful than the perfect because a)I know what to watch out for and b)I'm less discouraged at having to try-try-again. Thanks for sharing!
@@snapringchronicles3020 I feel like I may own or have recently seen another round head that was sealed or semi sealed but can't think of what that might be.
Great review, as always, thanks for posting. Wish I had more Williams tools. My toolset mainly includes vintage Challengers, Craftsman USAs and contemporary PROTOs. So, it's very interesting to hear about Williams (sliding heart-spring pawl). Appreciate this BB-52A tear-down. (Agree about Taiwan, and, I never buy, use, Chinesium...)
I'm like you and I like the original Williams design better.I picked up one of these in the 1/2 drive size not realizing that the "guts" were totally different than the original design.👍👍
Yeah they are a little confusing. When I first saw them a while ago I thought they may have been like the old B-52. There where no video teardowns on this ratchet at that time.
Interesting opinions on these. I prefer the Facom family of ratchets in all their brands over the Williams and snap on. I think this Facom design is the pinnacle of roundhead designs. So did snap on apparently. I had the little nub break on a Williams. You did a video on a made in Italy deWalt that was a real bargain at under 20 bucks.
That DeWALT might still be available on Amazon. I have one with a broken nub too that I did a video on a while back. Someone did an interesting repair on it.
Yep, I too prefer the Facom design. I have several ratchets from S&K when Facom purchased them in the 80s. They are all great ratchets with back drag that rivals my 72 tooth Koken Z-series. But only in 3/8" and 1/2" Ratchets. The original S&K 1/4" ratchet is the absolute cream of the crop in that size, an absolute pleasure to use.
BB-52 USS North Carolina Battleship is a South Dakota Class Battleship so you have a 45.000 ton Battleship Ratchet LOL ... All kidding aside Williams made great tools and the Ratchets are fantastic i would say Pro Quality great tear down i have a few of that style .. great video take care and enjoy your Sunday
Easco / Craftsman/ KD/ Allen/ Master Mechanic etc and SK(tuff 1) all used that same Facom design or some variation of it. There’s nothing wrong with it but the older JH Williams dual pawl was a much more robust ratchet that was less prone to having problems from debris getting inside.
I believe they are 72 teeth not a bad looking ratchet I still prefer my old jh Williams and co ratchets you just can't beat the double pawls snap on did that old design for a little while but dropped it pretty quick snap on is definitely not the same quality as the vintage Williams and you showed that awhile back ago thanks for sharing my friend
@@snapringchronicles3020 I agree they're not bad I'm actually thinking about getting one for my collection I didn't know they had New Old stock until I seen your video so thanks for the info great content my friend
Interesting that they use the Facom mechanism. I've only seen that in Craftsman from the late 90s. Not a huge fan but it's a decent design. Prefer the original Williams though.
