No matter the client or location, John Lautner always made the best of the site and maximized the natural environment around it. His designs, no matter how elaborate or modest, always took great care in the owner's needs. Thank you for all you do to bring attention to ALL of his work!!

I believe it's important to capture also the less important designs by Lautner because especially the smaller ones show how a great an architect he was. Showing that he was also brilliant with a limited budget.

@@SuperJobbel absolutely!! I have a HUGE love of Architecture and Architects. Wright of course has had a huge influence on my own work. But to see one of his own apprentices to become such a force in his own right and with such a vast range of designs and budgets is truly unmatched!! John Lautner has become one of my favorite post modern architects, and in no small part, because of your in-depth work to bring more attention to him!!

@@fragout9575 Absolutely Lautner was a genius and he deserves more recognition. Therefore I started this channel to bring more attention to his masterfull work. After F.L Wright he's the 2nd best American Architect, in my opinion. Although I also love Neutra.

Another magnificent addition! Love this one - you think its going to be nothing much, but of course its exquisite - and you've described it with such detail. Thank you so much!

You're welcome! Lautner is for me an archtiect who keeps on surprising: also the smaller and low budget designs by Lautner are full of exquisite details.

Yet another fascinating and very beautiful house, perfectly fitted into its site. Also, I think I would like living here. The multiple roof styles and levels recall the Schaeffer House.

Indeed, I can see the comparison with the Schaffer House. I really like the smaller houses by Lautner a lot.

Another example of the additional freedoms in design that work well because of a warmer climate. An outstanding design.
@SuperJobbel
@SuperJobbel 2 года назад
Yes its a small but brilliant design. This is a video of a house by Lautner that was designed for a very cold climate: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EbVkKo8fgnA.html , most houses by Lautner are built in California and suitable for hot climates.

Yes, I love to make these videos. Because there was so little information available about the houses I started to research on my own, now I want to share my knowledge with other people who are wondering how the houses by Lautner look like and are laid down.

I didn't even know about this one! And your detailing is once again fantastic Jop! I mean, the 2 windows at the skylights...? And the details on the additions.. How do you even find that stuff lol. The funny thing is, throughout the video i was thinking that the 2 staircases were weird, and that the shape of the terrace was also kinda off. And then you showed the original design and it all made sense again. Great video! The only comment i have is why is it in such low resolution? That's a bit of a shame

Thanks, I found about this house by reading on the itnernet and books. I also had some advice by Tycho Saariste an architect who wrote an excellent book about John Lautner. -- Yes , the design is now a little off by the expanding of the terrace. That's the problem with many Lautner's house today: the houses are perfect but the owners have changed many things to design in the past years. Mostly these design changes are expansions because back in the days the houses were smaller, expanding a house hardly ever benefits the design. --- The reason why some videos are made off lesser quality is that I take my photos from websites and some of them a really small pics. The more unknown a house is, the more difficult it is to find good photos. I try to take photos that are as good as possible.

The added studio and bedroom are well integrated into the design, and makes the house more practical in the current world. Working from home, etc.
@SuperJobbel
@SuperJobbel 2 года назад
Yes more practical. But I prefer the esthatic qualities of the original.

@@SuperJobbel Yes, I agree. Sometimes though when I view these beautiful old architecture pieces I think to myself that it would be difficult, in modern times, to basically live inside a piece of art.

The bedroom walls moving between pictures threw me! I like this house, but it's too overlooked. It needs more space around it to breath, it needs more foliage to give those bedrooms privacy.
@SuperJobbel

Yes it's an underrated and overlooked house. Indeed it would have worked when it was build on a larger piece of ground.

It is a mistake to make the homeowner or visitor climb stairs just to get to the front door. That is not a good introduction to the house. First impressions are difficult to change.
@SuperJobbel
@SuperJobbel Год назад
Okay that's one detail that I hadn't thought off. But it makes sense now you said it. An equal floor entrance is indeed better. Still I realy love this house.

Too bad about that huge, ugly Mediterranean house right next door, which looks right into the entire back yard.

I agree with you, to many of the houses in Hollywood are just to big and not designed with good taste. I never liked the Hispanic revival architecture that you see in California so often.
